594wpa_1209OuOHello, and welcome to the tutorial for the game Digit Code!
Digit Code is a game where you ask questions to gather clues and use logical reasoning to guess a six-digit code.
Let me teach you how to play and how to reason through the puzzle!1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
594wpa_1209OuOThis is your game board, which allows you to keep track of your reasoning.
In the bottom right corner is the “Save” button—use it to avoid losing progress if the page refreshes.
In the bottom left corner is the “Delete” button—it will clear all your notes when clicked.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
594wpa_1209OuOOn your turn, you can perform two types of actions:
“Ask a question” or “Submit an answer.”
Let’s first explain “Ask a question”:
There are four types of questions you can ask:
1.Count the number of filled squares in a row/column.
2.Is a number even or odd?
3.Is a square empty or filled?
4.Compare two numbers.
Your opponent just asked the third type of question.3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
594wpa_1209OuOOh! Your opponent just asked whether the square TAM is empty or filled.
The square highlighted in red below is TAM (number T, column A, row M), and it has been marked red, meaning the square is filled!
On the board, all red markings represent clues from someone asking this type of question.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment689300900686e00dgt_column-TA 1
594wpa_1209OuOIn the digital representation of numbers, the blue boxed numbers in that square are empty, which means that number T cannot be any of those digits.
You can click the blue-boxed digits to cross them out, making it easier to remember which digits are not possible for number T.2dgt_optionMarker-T9689300900686e00dgt_optionMarker-T1 2 dgt_optionMarker-T3 2 dgt_optionMarker-T4 2 dgt_optionMarker-T5 2 dgt_optionMarker-T7 2 dgt_optionMarker-T9 2
594wpa_1209OuONow it’s your turn!
Let’s try asking whether number W is even or odd.
Click on “(number) even or odd?” at the top, then click on W on the board, and finally click “Confirm W.”5archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment689300900686e10page-title 17 dgt_digitLabel-W 18
594wpa_1209OuOLet’s see… Each number has an icon with either two dots or one dot, representing whether it is even or odd.
Number W is marked with the one-dot icon in red, which means W is an odd number!1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment689300a62bfa000dgt_column-WB 1
594wpa_1209OuOYou can now click on the blue-boxed even numbers to cross them out as impossible options for W.
And since T’s possible digits are only 0, 2, 6, 8, number T must be even as well!
Click the green-boxed “two dots” icon to mark T as even.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment689300ac9127400dgt_parityMarker-even-T 3 dgt_optionMarker-W0 2 dgt_optionMarker-W2 2 dgt_optionMarker-W4 2 dgt_optionMarker-W6 2 dgt_optionMarker-W8 2
594wpa_1209OuONow your opponent asked the first type of question:
How many filled squares are in row L?
Row L refers to the horizontal line through numbers T, U, and V. The red number “3” on the right means all three squares in row L are filled!2dgt_space-TBN689300ac9127a00dgt_sequence-1 1
594wpa_1209OuOYou’ve probably realized it!
Since row L has three squares, and all are filled, click all three squares to mark them as filled.3dgt_column-TC689300ac9127a00dgt_label-L 1 dgt_column-TB 2 dgt_column-UE 2 dgt_space-VHL 2 dgt_column-VH 2
594wpa_1209OuOWith this new clue, you can eliminate the blue-boxed digits as impossible.
You can also logically deduce that:
1.TBJ, TBN, WCR must be filled – click each once to mark.
2.WAR must be empty – click it twice to mark it with an X.4dgt_column-VH689300ac9127a00dgt_column-TB 3 dgt_optionMarker-T0 2 dgt_optionMarker-U0 2 dgt_optionMarker-U1 2 dgt_optionMarker-U7 2 dgt_optionMarker-V0 2 dgt_optionMarker-V1 2 dgt_optionMarker-V7 2 dgt_column-WB 3
594wpa_1209OuOYour opponent asked whether XEQ is filled.
Since it’s marked red, that square is filled!
Again, eliminate blue-boxed digits as invalid.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment689300d03fbd100dgt_optionMarker-X0 2 dgt_optionMarker-X1 2 dgt_optionMarker-X7 2
594wpa_1209OuOIt’s your turn again!
Let’s ask the fourth type of question: Who is larger, U or X?
(Important: In this game, adjacent numbers (vertically or horizontally) must be different!)
Click “Compare numbers,” then click the “> <” symbol between U and X, then click “Confirm U > < X.”2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment689300d03fbd110page-title 17 dgt_comparisonMarker-UX 18
594wpa_1209OuOThe “> <” icon is for greater than or less than.
Based on the red marking, we learn: U is less than X.
Cross out blue-boxed digits that no longer fit!1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment689300e15605300dgt_comparisonMarker-UX 1 dgt_optionMarker-U9 2 dgt_optionMarker-X2 2
594wpa_1209OuOAnother player has finished asking their question.
Do you remember what the “two dots” icon means?
That's right—even number!
So, you can eliminate more blue-boxed digits accordingly.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment689301085033f00dgt_optionMarker-X3 2 dgt_optionMarker-X5 2 dgt_optionMarker-X9 2
594wpa_1209OuONow, X is only possibly 4, 6, or 8, which means XDP and XFR must be filled – click them once.
Also, since U < X, U cannot be 8.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment689301085033f00dgt_optionMarker-U8 2 dgt_column-XE 3
594wpa_1209OuONow it’s your turn to reason!
The opponent revealed YGR is filled—what can you deduce?
(Click “Continue” to reveal the answer.)1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment68930120d87b800
594wpa_1209OuOThat’s right! You can deduce:
1.Blue-boxed digits are impossible.
2.Y is even.
3.YHO and YHS must be filled.
Click to mark them accordingly.
Now let’s ask how many filled squares are in row M.
Click “Count row/column,” then click “M” on the left side of the board, then click “Confirm M.”2dgt_rowMarker-M68930120d87b810page-title 17 dgt_label-M 18 dgt_parityMarker-even-Y 3 dgt_column-YH 3 dgt_optionMarker-Y1 2 dgt_optionMarker-Y3 2 dgt_optionMarker-Y4 2 dgt_optionMarker-Y5 2 dgt_optionMarker-Y7 2 dgt_optionMarker-Y9 2
594wpa_1209OuOIt seems row M has four filled squares, but with current info, we can’t determine more just yet. Let’s wait and see what the other player reveals.1dgt_space-TBN68930136910aa00
594wpa_1209OuOAh… Row N has two filled squares, but that’s still not enough to conclude anything. Let’s continue!1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6893013f81c0d00
594wpa_1209OuOHere’s the key clue: V < Y.
This means the blue-boxed digits are invalid.
And since Y is only possibly 6 or 8, the following must be filled:
YGP, YHQ, YIR – click each once to mark.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6893014aabe9200dgt_optionMarker-V8 2 dgt_optionMarker-V9 2 dgt_column-YH 3 dgt_optionMarker-Y0 2 dgt_optionMarker-Y2 2
594wpa_1209OuONow it’s our turn again!
Let’s ask how many filled squares are in column E.
Click “Count row/column,” then click column “E” on the board, and then “Confirm E.”2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6893014aabe9210page-title 17 dgt_label-E 18
594wpa_1209OuOColumn E has six filled squares, meaning:
UEJ, UEN, XEO, XES must be filled – click them.
Now look at the possibilities for U and X, and eliminate the impossible (cross out the blue-boxed digits).1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6893016b4a75000dgt_column-UE 3 dgt_optionMarker-U4 2 dgt_column-XE 3 dgt_optionMarker-X4 2
594wpa_1209OuOAlso, since X is now only possibly 6 or 8, XDR must be filled – mark it.
Now look at row N:
It has only 2 filled squares, and both TBN and UEN are filled, so VHN must be empty – click twice to mark with X.2dgt_comparisonIcon-Y_V6893016b4a75000dgt_label-N 1 dgt_column-VH 3 dgt_column-XE 3
594wpa_1209OuOTake a look at number V!
The only possible value that fits is 4 – mark it accordingly.3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6893016b4a75000dgt_parityMarker-even-V 3 dgt_column-VH 3 dgt_optionMarker-V2 2 dgt_optionMarker-V3 2 dgt_optionMarker-V5 2 dgt_optionMarker-V6 2
594wpa_1209OuONow we learn row Q has only two filled squares – what can you reason from this?
(Click “Continue” to reveal the answer.)1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6893017939bed00
594wpa_1209OuOThe answer is:
1.WQB must be empty.
2.Blue-boxed digits are invalid.
3.WCP must be filled, WAP and WBS must be empty.
Mark the squares accordingly (click once to fill, twice to X out).2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6893017939bed00dgt_column-WB 3 dgt_optionMarker-W3 2 dgt_optionMarker-W5 2 dgt_optionMarker-W9 2
594wpa_1209OuONow we know UDM is filled, which means Blue-boxed digits are invalid and U must be an even number – mark it!1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment68930193a37b900dgt_parityMarker-even-U 3 dgt_optionMarker-U3 2 dgt_optionMarker-U5 2
594wpa_1209OuOOur turn again!
Let’s check how many filled squares are in column C.
Click “Count row/column,” then click column “C,” then click “Confirm C.”2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment68930193a37b910page-title 17 dgt_label-C 18
594wpa_1209OuOTurns out there are three filled squares, so T cannot be 8 – cross it out.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment689301b50f6bb00dgt_optionMarker-T8 2
594wpa_1209OuOHere comes a tricky deduction…
Column F has three filled squares, meaning only one empty square.
U can only be 2 or 6. In either case, XFP must be filled.
Therefore, X must be 8 – mark it!1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment689301ea7ca5800dgt_column-UE 1 dgt_column-XE 3 dgt_optionMarker-X6 2
594wpa_1209OuOAnd remember: Adjacent numbers must differ.
Since X is 8, Y cannot be 8, so Y must be 6.
Cross out the invalid digits (blue-boxed) and mark YIP as empty (click twice).2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment689301ea7ca5800dgt_column-YH 3 dgt_optionMarker-Y8 2
594wpa_1209OuOOh! New clue: T < W
Now, can you figure out what W is?
(Click “Continue” to reveal the answer.)1dgt_space-UEN68930217042fd00
594wpa_1209OuOThat’s right, W is 7 – mark it.
Now observe:
Only T and U are unknown, and both are possibly 2 or 6, so the answer is either 264786 or 624786.2dgt_rowMarker-J68930217042fd00dgt_column-WB 3 dgt_optionMarker-W1 2
594wpa_1209OuOIf we ask more questions, an opponent might guess the code.
So let’s take a chance and submit 264786.
Click “Submit answer,” enter “264786,” and click “Confirm.”3dgt_rowMarker-K68930217042fd10page-title 16
594wpa_1209OuOAh, too bad! It was incorrect.
But don’t worry—each player gets two attempts, and opponents won’t know what we submitted.
So now we know the answer is 624786!
Mark it down, and hope no one else guesses it correctly.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment68930230d876300dgt_column-TB 3 dgt_optionMarker-T2 2 dgt_column-UE 3 dgt_optionMarker-U6 2
594wpa_1209OuOLooks like none of the other players got it right!
Now go ahead and submit the final answer!
Click “Submit answer,” enter 624786, and click “Confirm” to win the game!1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6893029bdeef710
594wpa_1209OuOCongratulations! You won the game!
Now it’s your turn to try.
We believe in your logical reasoning—go break the code!
Enjoy playing!1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment689302a749d8200
