Rules summary
Overview
In Jaipur, each player must take, trade, and sell goods and camels to become the richest merchant in the desert. The first player to win two rounds wins.
Gameplay
At the start of the game, each player is dealt five cards. The hand limit is seven.
The "market" consists of five face-up cards placed between the players. These are available to take or trade for. (At the beginning, the market consists of 3 camel cards and 2 from the deck.)
Camel cards (your "herd") are not considered part of your hand. These are placed in a pile face-up in front of each player.
The deck has 55 cards:
- 6 diamonds (red)
- 6 gold (yellow)
- 6 silver (blue)
- 8 cloth (purple)
- 8 spice (green)
- 10 leather (brown)
- 11 camels
Actions
Take
You may take 1 goods (color-coded) card from the market and add it to your hand or take all the camels in the market and add them to your herd. You may not take a goods card if you have reached the hand limit (which is 7). Camels do not count toward the hand limit.
Trade
You may trade goods (color-coded) cards from your hand or camels from your herd for cards from the market. You must trade for at least two cards in the market, and the cards must be different types between those in the market and those in your hand. (For example, trading a blue and a green card for a blue and a yellow card is not permitted.)
Sell
You may sell/discard one or more cards to earn points (if you are selling diamonds, gold, or silver, you must sell at least 2 cards). All the cards must be of the same type (color). Each card earns you one token of the corresponding color from the bank, starting from the most valuable token.
If you sell 3 or more goods, you also earn a bonus token from the corresponding pile (for sales of 3,4, or 5+ goods).
The game continues until either:
- Three piles of goods tokens are depleted
- The card row cannot be replenished
Scoring
Players total the points from earned goods tokens and bonus tokens. Whichever player has more camels in their herd earns the camel bonus token, worth 5 points. The player with the most points wins the round. In case of ties, the player with the most bonus tokens wins. If still tied, the player with the most goods tokens wins.
