Resist!
Spain, 1936. General Franco and his troops advance through the territories of Spain, giving way to a long period of civil war and repression. After the Spanish Civil War, a group of loyalists to the Republic continued the armed struggle, forming resistance groups better known as "maquis". Hidden among the mountains these men and women risked their lives to defend the ideals of democracy and freedom. Against them they had the Army of Franco, the Civil Guard, and the Armed Police. But the maquis perfected their guerilla warfare in France during the second World War, and were determined to take back their homeland. In the head of each maquisard resonated the echo of the desire of many compatriots: Resist!
Take on the role of the Spanish Maquis, fighting against the Francoist regime. Over a series of rounds, you will undertake increasingly difficult missions. Defeating missions gains you the victory points you need to win the game. Failing to defeat missions and enemies may cause you to lose the game. At the end of each round, you must choose whether to end the resistance or risk it and take on another mission.

Rules summary
Resist!
Resist! is a solo card game where the player leads a group of Spanish resistance fighters (Maquis) against the Franco regime. The game ends after a certain number of rounds or if the resistance is crushed.
Game Objective
Collect as many Victory Points (VP) as possible by completing missions. The game ends immediately in defeat if 5 civilians are killed or the resistance runs out of cards to draw.
Quick Setup
- Create a deck of Maquis cards.
- Set up a display of Mission cards.
- Place enemies (Civil Guards) face-down on the missions.
- Draw a starting hand of 4 Maquis cards.
Game Flow
The game is played over several rounds until the player chooses to end the resistance or loses. Each round has four phases:
1. Planning Phase
- Play Maquis cards from your hand.
- Each card has two modes: Hidden and Revealed.
- Hidden: Usually provides lower combat values but returns to your discard pile at the end of the round.
- Revealed: The card is significantly stronger but is permanently removed from the game after the round (it goes to the "sacrifice" pile).
- Use card abilities (e.g., reveal enemies, draw cards, boost attack values).
2. Attack Phase
- Choose one Mission from the display to attack.
- Calculate your total Attack Value (sum of all played Maquis values).
- Reveal all enemies defending the chosen mission.
- Overcoming Defense: You must meet or exceed the mission's defense value to succeed.
- Eliminating Enemies: You can also use your attack value to permanently defeat individual defenders (Civil Guards).
3. Aftermath Phase
- Check the effects of any remaining enemies on the mission (many will attack or kill civilians if not defeated).
- If the mission was successful, take the card for VP. If not, it remains, but you suffer the consequences listed on the card.
4. Recovery Phase
- Place all "Hidden" cards into your discard pile.
- Remove all "Revealed" cards from the game.
- Draw a new hand of 4 cards. If the deck is empty, reshuffle the discard pile (unless specific defeat conditions apply).
Card Categories & Symbols
- Attack Value (Number): Your strength during the Attack Phase.
- Mission Value: The strength required to win the mission.
- Civilian Symbol: Found on missions or enemies; if 5 of these are lost, the game ends immediately.
- Spies: These cards clog your deck. They have no combat value and must often be removed using special abilities.
End of Game & Scoring
The game ends when:
- The player decides to stop the resistance (after any round).
- No more missions are available.
- Defeat conditions are met (5 civilians dead, Maquis deck empty, or 2 consecutive missions failed).
- Scoring: Total the VP of completed missions. Your rank is determined by a table in the rulebook (ranging from "Historical Defeat" to "Resistance Victory").
