Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67c80698b489d1.71769037.jpg[/img] You heard that investing in stalks is a sound financial decision, so you went out to do exactly that. You're quite sure that this is what they meant! [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerIn *Stalk Exchange,* each player will try to assemble the most valuable portfolio of flowers. To influence their value, they'll have to plant some of them in the communal garden. [green]At the end of the game, the player with the most valuable portfolio wins![/green]2maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerThere are *5* different types of flowers in the game, with *25* tokens of each type. At the beginning of the game, each player is given a secret stalk portfolio of *12* flowers. You might have to *scroll down* a little to see our portfolio. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67c80699808c39.34540032.jpg[/img]3maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerAt the end of the game, each flower in our portfolio will score points equal to its value on the *market board.* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67c8069a41f0c0.14618893.jpg[/img] In this example, each red tulip is worth *3* points. Each yellow daffodil is worth *2.*4se_token_24000
NekonyancerBut we'll need to be careful! The flower with the highest value at the end of the game will *crash* to *half* of its final value (rounded up)!5se_token_21000
NekonyancerEach player gets [blue]2 basic actions[/blue] on their turn. Each of these actions can be spent to either... *• Plant* a flower from the Stalk Exchange in the garden. *• Swap* a flower in our portfolio with one in the Stalk Exchange. We'll focus on *planting* first.6maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerWhen we *plant,* we take one of the six tokens in the *Stalk Exchange* row and place it somewhere in the *garden.* This will eventually lead to an increase in that flower's value. As you can see, BGA already placed 9 flowers in the garden. If you play with 3-5 players, BGA will only place 6.7se_token_13000
Nekonyancer[red]We have a lot of red tulips, so let's try and make tulips more valuable![/red] *1.* Select the *second token* from the left (the red tulip.) *2.* Place it in the *bottom row* of the garden! [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67c8069b03a8a0.75122125.jpg[/img]8maintitlebar_content000
Nekonyancer[blue]Did you do it?[/blue] If so, you probably noticed that the token *flipped over* to its *bulb* side. This will happen every time we plant. That's it for our *plant* action. We have one more action we can perform this turn.9se_token_11000
NekonyancerLet's plant again! *1.* Select the [red]*other red tulip*[/red] in the Stalk Exchange. *2.* Place it in the *second row.* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67c8069bb9f702.64874942.jpg[/img]10maintitlebar_content000
Nekonyancer[blue]Okay, we used both of our basic actions![/blue] I'll click on [red]*"End my turn"*[/red] for you in a second. This will end the *Action Phase* of our turn and start the *Upkeep Phase,* in which BGA will go through four short steps: [green]1. Harvest flowers. 2. Update stalk values. 3. Bloom bulbs. 4. Move the Stalk Exchange.[/green]11maintitlebar_content000
Nekonyancer[green]Step 1: Harvest flowers.[/green]---BGA will remove any *flower* or *flower group* that is *surrounded.* A flower group consists of multiple flower of the same type that are connected to each other. In this case, there are no such flowers. We'll see an example soon, I promise!12se_token_8000
Nekonyancer[green]Step 2: Update stalk values.[/green]---All harvested flowers from Step 1 are moved to the *Market Board.* Their values are then increased. Just wait until next turn!13se_token_136000
Nekonyancer[green]Step 3: Bloom bulbs.[/green]---Any planted *bulbs* in the garden that are next to at least one empty space are flipped over to their *flower* sides.14se_token_8000
Nekonyancer[green]Step 4: Move the Stalk Exchange.[/green]---The rightmost flower in the Stalk Exchange is moved to the *compost* (discard) bag. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67c8069c812560.25880250.jpg[/img] The other flowers shift to the right to fill the empty slots. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67c8069d42eae4.26698471.jpg[/img] New flowers are drawn from the *Greenhouse bag* to refill the Exchange. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67c8069e01f425.56821423.jpg[/img]3maintitlebar_content67748cc0e031a00
Nekonyancer*Okay, our turn is over!* [blue]Next, our opponent will go...[/blue]4maintitlebar_content67748cc0e2c9900
NekonyancerOur opponent planted two bulbs. But since one was planted in a spot without any adjacent open spaces, it did *not* bloom into a flower!1se_token_4167748cefd75dd00
Nekonyancer[blue]Okay, next turn![/blue] Let's continue planting so we can see a *harvest* in action. *Move [red]this tulip[/red] to the second row of the garden.* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67c806a62b7a68.96994422.jpg[/img]2maintitlebar_content67748cefd75dd00
Nekonyancer[blue]Now for our second action...[/blue] *Move [red]this dahlia[/red] to the third row.* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67c8069eb5d419.10212685.jpg[/img]3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment67748cefd75dd00
NekonyancerOkay, we've now completely *surrounded* a group of 3 tulip flowers! No, it's not four. The tulip *bulb* doesn't count as a flower yet, and it won't grow into one until *Step 2* of the Upkeep Phase.4se_token_1167748cefd75dd00
NekonyancerThe surrounded tulips will be harvested (Step 1) as soon as I click on [red]"End my turn."[/red] Then, for Step 2, BGA will place one of them on each space of the Market Track, starting from the inner end. The first space varies with the number of players. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67c806a6e56e94.44971696.jpg[/img] The bottom-left space is only used if you play with 2 players *AND* toggle a long game in the lobby options.5player_name_1194135467748cefd75dd00
NekonyancerAfter placing the Tulips on the inner end of the track, BGA moved the Tulips' Stock Value Token 1 space per Tulip. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67c8069f7f1640.21298236.jpg[/img]1se_token_167748d40c2a9800
NekonyancerYou remember what happens next, right? *Step 3* (bloom bulbs) and *Step 4* (move Stalk Exchange)! [blue]Since you obviously remember everything, I'll skip ahead to our next turn...[/blue]2maintitlebar_content67748d40c2a9800
NekonyancerI just have one more thing to mention about *Planting* before we move on to *Swapping.* If multiple flower groups are surrounded, all of them are harvested *simultaneously.* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67c806a03bf152.95533704.jpg[/img] In this example, four groups are harvested. The harvest of each specific group does not "un-surround" the other groups.1maintitlebar_content67748d544054500
Nekonyancer[blue]Okay, swapping time![/blue] When we swap, we take a flower from the Stalk Exchange and place it in our secret stalk portfolio. We must then choose another flower in our portfolio and move it to the Exchange.2maintitlebar_content67748d544054500
NekonyancerLet's try it! *1.* Select the [red]*leftmost tulip.*[/red] [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67c806a0f2e674.39654643.jpg[/img] *2.* Select the leftmost flower in our portfolio - the [green]*dahlia.*[/green] [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67c806a1b329e1.53105267.jpg[/img]3maintitlebar_content67748d544054500
NekonyancerLet's go all-in on tulips! *1.* Select the [red]*next tulip*[/red] in the Exchange. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67c806a26f0fa6.04511020.jpg[/img] *2.* Select the rightmost flower in our portfolio - the [green]*daffodil!*[/green] [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67c806a3370168.54496547.jpg[/img]4maintitlebar_content67748d544054500
NekonyancerOkay, that's both of our basic actions... but we don't have to end our turn yet if we don't want to! Each player was given 3 *Seedy Business tokens* at the beginning of the game. Each one will let us take *one extra action.* We can *never* gain more tokens, so we must use them wisely!5se_token_se_seedys_167748d544054500
NekonyancerIf we try to take another action, BGA will automatically use a Seedy Business token to execute it. Let's use one to get the last Tulip in the Exchange! *1.* Select the [red]*last Tulip!*[/red] [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67c806a3eb9ed6.81724456.jpg[/img] *2.* Select the leftmost flower in our portfolio - a [green]*globemaster!*[/green] [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67c806a4ae6da9.45061636.jpg[/img]6se_second_line67748d544054500
Nekonyancer*Great!* As you can see, we only have two Seedy Business tokens left. The last thing I have to explain is the *Flush* action, which moves all flowers in the Stalk Exchange to the Compost. It then refills the Exchange with new flowers from the Greenhouse bag. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67c806a5683fd3.88659714.jpg[/img]7se_token_se_seedys_167748d544054500
NekonyancerThe Flush action requires a Seedy Business token, even if we have basic actions available. In addition, it can only be done *once per player.* You see the [blue]*Flush*[/blue] button at the top, right? *I'll click on it for you...*9se_token_se_seedys_167748d544054500
Nekonyancer*Okay!* One of the tokens was *flipped over* to show that we used the Flush action and can't Flush again for the rest of the game.1se_token_se_seedys_flush_167748d88bad5b00
Nekonyancer[blue]Okay, that's everything![/blue] The game will continue as you've seen until... The harvested flowers meet or pass the highest stalk value token, like this: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67c806a7a20c16.86471381.jpg[/img] *OR* The Greenhouse bag runs out of tokens. You can see how many remain under the Stalk Exchange. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67c806a860c3b3.77204508.jpg[/img]2maintitlebar_content67748d88bad5b00
NekonyancerIf that happens during a player's Action Phase, the game will end after that player's Upkeep Phase. Before scores are calculated, the highest value Stalk token will *crash* to half its final value, rounded up. If multiple tokens are tied for the highest, all of them crash!3maintitlebar_content67748d88bad5b00
NekonyancerEach player's portfolio will then be revealed, and BGA will count up the points. Each flower token is worth points equal to the flower's stock value. [green]Whoever has the most points wins![/green]4se_second_line67748d88bad5b00
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Stock Exchange!*[/blue] If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message! Big thank yous go out to... *• Christopher Ryan Chan* for designing this game. *• The Op Games* for publishing. *• Banban* for bringing it to BGA! Have fun! :D5maintitlebar_content67748d88bad5b00
