Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67b0ad97e2acb0.52971310.jpg[/img] It's the thought that counts... or not! [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer!1maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerIn *Kado,* players will take turns gifting cards to each other. If they don't like their gifts, they can *challenge* the gifter to try and get them exchanged! Eventually, everyone will form their own 12-card grid of gifts with 3 rows and 4 columns. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67b0ad990ddcc1.90686549.jpg[/img] Each row and column will then be scored. [green]Whoever has the most points wins![/green]2maintitlebar_content000
Nekonyancer[blue]Each turn is split into 3 steps:[/blue] *1.* Give gifts. *2.* Challenge the gifter. *3.* Organize your grid. Looks like BGA chose us as the first player!3maintitlebar_content000
Nekonyancer[blue]*Step 1: Give gifts.*[/blue]---We'll draw cards from a deck, one by one. Each time, we have to give the card to a player before drawing the next one. This is repeated until every player - including ourselves - has one gift.4maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerYou should be able to see our first card at the top of the screen. [blue]Each card has three important features:[/blue] • Gift type. • Ribbon color. • Victory point value. [blue]In this case, we drew chocolates with a blue ribbon and a victory point value of 5.[/blue]5kd_bar_invite000
Nekonyancer*5* is the highest value a gift can have, so I think we should give this gift to... ourselves! *Click [red]here[/red] to keep the gift!*6button_1010button_1 1
NekonyancerOkay, our gift was placed on the table. It appears to be face up, but it's actually face down. [green]No one can see what we kept for ourselves![/green] :)1kd_card_front_16791db2c4372b00
NekonyancerWe drew the next card: a 4-point rubik's cube with a green ribbon. 4 Is pretty high, so we probably don't want to give this to our opponent. Fortunately, we have another option. In *2-player* games, we can *discard* a card, but only once per turn. *Click [blue]here[/blue] to discard the card!*2button_discard6791db2c4372b10button_discard 2
NekonyancerFinally, we drew a 2-point plant with a green ribbon. We have no choice now - we have to give it to our opponent. *Click [green]here![/green]*1button_26791db301706810button_2 3
NekonyancerThat's the end of Step 1! [blue]*Step 2: Challenge the gifter.*[/blue]---In clockwise order, players can guess the *type* and *ribbon* color of the gift that the gifter kept. If a player guesses either aspect correctly, the guesser and gifter must *swap* their gifts!1maintitlebar_content6791db3215f6d00
NekonyancerIf a player guesses incorrectly or declines to guess at all, the next player in order will get an opportunity to challenge. [green]Let's see what our opponent does...[/green]2maintitlebar_content6791db3215f6d00
NekonyancerOur opponent guessed that we kept a *teddy bear* with a [green]*green ribbon.*[/green] Both aspects are incorrect, so nothing happens! If there were a third player in this game, they would now get a chance to challenge us.1kd_bubble_26791dbc3561d600
Nekonyancer[blue]*Step 3: Organize grids.*[/blue]---Everyone's gifts were revealed! Everyone must now place them into their own 12-card grids. The first card is placed automatically.2maintitlebar_content6791dbc35702d00
Nekonyancer[green]Okay, that was one complete turn![/green] Next, our opponent will go. But before they do, I think I'll explain more about how *scoring* works.3maintitlebar_content6791dbc357dcf00
NekonyancerAt the end of the game, in each row, we will score points equal to the value of each card of a single type. Therefore, we'll want to put many gifts of the same *type* in the same *row.* BGA will do the math for us and automatically choose the best type. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img691d4b94a343c6.85042589.jpg[/img] BGA will automatically choose *plants* for this player and score *6* points.4maintitlebar_content6791dbc357dcf00
NekonyancerIn addition, if all the ribbons in a column are the same color, we'll gain points equal to the highest-value card in that column. Therefore, we'll want to put cards of the same color in the same column. [green]Got it? Same types in rows, same colors in columns.[/green]5maintitlebar_content6791dbc357dcf00
Nekonyancer[blue]*Step 3: Organize grids.*[/blue]---Each player will place their gift into their 12-card grid. The first card is placed automatically.6gameaction_status_wrap6791dbc3561d600
NekonyancerOkay, our opponent finished Step 1. They gave us a 4-point pair of socks with an orange ribbon. Now we have the option to *challenge* them!1kd_card_back_66791dbf1a845400
NekonyancerKnowing what we know about scoring, it would make sense for our opponent to keep a card of the *same color or type* as the one they already have, right? With that in mind... *1.* Click on [blue]*"Challenge."*[/blue] *2.* Select the *plant.* *3.* Select the [green]*green ribbon.*[/green] *4.* Click again to *confirm!*2maintitlebar_content6791dbf1a845410
Nekonyancer[red]Aw, we failed the challenge. Oh well.[/red] Next, we have to place our gift so that it is *adjacent* to at least one other gift. We don't have any good options here. =/ *Place it under our first gift!*1kd_card_back_66791dbfe9999c10kd_target_3 16
Nekonyancer[green]Okay, it's our turn again![/green] Hmm, we drew a 3-point pair of socks with a blue ribbon. That's not bad! We can put it in our sock row! *Click [red]here[/red] to keep it!*1button_16791dc1b2283510button_1 1
NekonyancerNext is a 2-point teddy bear with a red ribbon. What do you think we should do? Should we give it to our opponent or discard it?1button_26791dc2515dc300
NekonyancerThis card has nothing in common with our opponent's first two gifts, and it has a low value. We should definitely give it to our opponent! *Click [green]here![/green]*2button_26791dc2515dc310button_2 3
NekonyancerOkay, now our opponent has the option of challenging us...1pagemaintitletext6791dc2aeda4c00
Nekonyancer[red]*Oh no!*[/red] They guessed Rubik's Cube with a [blue]blue ribbon![/blue] The gift we kept had a [blue]blue ribbon,[/blue] so one aspect matched. Therefore, our gifts were *swapped,* and we got stuck with the lousy teddy bear!1kd_card_back_86791dc3ddebc900
NekonyancerOur previous two gifts have different colors, so adding a third color to the column won't hurt us. *Place the bear under our socks!*2kd_card_back_86791dc3ddebc910kd_target_6 16
Nekonyancer[green]Okay, I think you've seen enough![/green] The game will continue until everyone has a complete grid with 3 rows and 4 columns. Then BGA will score them!1maintitlebar_content6791dc5332cba00
Nekonyancer[green]Did you forget how scoring works?[/green] *Rows:* each gift of one *type* is worth points equal to its value. *Columns:* The card with the highest value scores points equal to its value IF all the colors are the same.2maintitlebar_content6791dc5332cba00
NekonyancerThere's one more way to score points. If you're lucky enough to guess both the *color AND type* of a gifter's kept gift, you'll earn 2 points! [green]After all the points are counted up, whoever has the most points wins![/green]3maintitlebar_content6791dc5332cba00
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Kado!*[/blue] If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message! Big thank yous go out to... • *Antoine Bauza* for designing this game. • *Lumberjacks Studio* for publishing. • *Moof* for bringing it to BGA! Have fun! :D4maintitlebar_content6791dc5332cba00
