villager[tip] [green]This tutorial is best experienced on a full screen desktop browser at 1080p[/green] In Welcome To, players are American architects in the 50s during the Baby Boom. But beware of the competition! Who will best accomplish the city’s plans by creating the nicest [red]housing estates[/red] in the three streets they’ve been assigned? Will your luxurious [green]parks[/green] and fancy [blue]pools[/blue] be enough to earn you title of Best Architect?1pagemaintitletext000
villagerWelcome To is a game where everyone plays at the same time with the same cards. It’s all about cleverly combining the [red]house numbers[/red] with their associated [green]effects[/green] in order to become the greatest architect of tomorrow! [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ec1a2c5ab3.35907085.jpg[/img]2construction-card-62000
villagerThis is your growing town, made up of homes.31684537_cityname000
villagerThere are 3 streets dividing up all your homes. Your role as the Architect, is to assign each [red]*EMPTY*[/red] house a [red]UNIQUE[/red] house number. *House numbers must be in ASCENDING order in each street.*41684537_house_0_1000
villagerOn the left are 3 pairs of construction cards, randomly flipped to show a House Number, and an *optional* effect.5construction-card-52000
villagerHouse Numbers are from 1 to 15. [tip] It will be helpful to remember the distribution of house numbers. There are 81 cards, distributed as: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ec1a5c5570.34860908.jpg[/img]6construction-card-39000
villagerIn this tutorial, as House Number 2 is on the rare end of the curve, I recommend selecting this particular pair of Construction Cards. Also hover over the purple "Real Estate Agent" effect card to read its purpose. Will explain that soon.7construction-card-52000
villagerNow click here to scribble down House Number 2. !!! NOTE: you can only assign house numbers to empty houses in ascending order. !!! Also note, that House Numbers CANNOT REPEAT in the SAME street. BGA will automatically highlight the legit spaces. 81684537_house_2_161a21bc1648b9001684537_house_2_2 16
villagerthe OPTIONAL effect you chose lets you increase the value of "COMPLETED HOUSING ESTATES". So what exactly is that? :)11684537_score-estate_2_061a21bcb4ab6700
villagerIt's not complicated.. but needs a couple of concepts to understand. A "Completed Estate" = group of "Fenced Houses". So what is a Fence? :)2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment61a21bcb4ab6700
villagerThis is a FENCE. When resolving the *optional* FENCE effect, you can draw a line between 1 or more Houses. A group of CONTIGUOUS FILLED HOUSE NUMBERS, in one of your streets, is an ESTATE.3construction-card-6261a21bcb4ab6700
villagerThe concept of COMPLETED HOUSING ESTATES is also used when looking at the currently available CITY PLANS. A City Plan presents a goal set by the City to its architects, as in building a certain number of housing estates with mandated sizes. Hover over the plans to see the requirements.4plan-card-9-validation61a21bcb4ab6700plan-cards-container 8
villagerI will talk more about how City Plans are scored at the end of the tutorial, but for now, take note that the game offers 3 common City Plans for all the architects competing. As an example, the first player to complete THREE "Size 3" estates will score an additional 8 points.5plan-card-2-061a21bcb4ab6700
villagerLooks like the Estate Size of 3 is quite popular.. so let's increase the value of that Estate. Click here to increase the scoring value of a "Size 3 Estate" from the default of 3 points to 4 points.61684537_score-estate_2_061a21bcb4ab67001684537_score-estate_2_0 8
villagerYou have now increased the scoring value of your "Size 3" estates from 3 to 4. (ie the next unscratched value in this column).71684537_score-estate_2_161a21bcba7e0f001684537_score-estate_2_1 8
villagerRemember, Welcome To.. is a simultaneous action game. All other players are making similar decisions with the 3 pairs of flipped Construction Cards. As soon as everyone is done CONFIRMing their turn, the game will flip a fresh set of construction cards, and we repeat the thought process.8gameaction_status61a21bcbae4ef00
villagerYou always have the option to click "Restart Turn" if you want to UNDO your current move, and rewrite your House Number and Effect choices. For now, click Continue to Confirm your choices and move to the next flip.9gameaction_status61a21bcbae4ef00
villagerWe talked about the Fence card before. It's conveniently also paired with House Number 6. Let's select this pair.1construction-card-461a21bd66d72f00
villagerClick here to scrawl down House Number 6. Notice that I can leave gaps when numbering houses, as long as I follow other placement rules, ie: 1) Unique house number on a street 2) Ascending order from left to right21684537_house_2_561a21be2adc7200
villager[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ec1a8521e5.47778082.jpg[/img]11684537_house_2_561a21beff225600
villagerNow let's get Architecting, and draw some fences to make some Estates. Remember our goal to make "Size 3" Estates? Let's draw a fence line here. [tip] Fence lines can be drawn anywhere in your town.. not necessarily next to the house number that you picked this turn. 21684537_estate-fence_2_261a21beff31f1001684537_estate-fence_2_2 6
villagerThat was easy right? Now pray that you get House Numbers 1 and something between 2 and 6 to complete the "Size 3" estate in future flips. :) [tip] *Every street comes with 2 PERMANENT boundary fences on the extreme left and right houses.* By drawing this specific fence on the right, you automatically demarcated a Size-3 estate!11684537_top-fence_2_361a21bf5eb99d001684537_estate-fence_0_-1 12 1684537_estate-fence_0_9 11 1684537_estate-fence_1_-1 12 1684537_estate-fence_1_10 11 1684537_estate-fence_2_-1 12 1684537_estate-fence_2_11 11
villagerNew flips.. new house numbers and effects to choose from. Hmm.. all Fences. In hindsight, not the best choice, but select the House Number 7 pair.1construction-card-7261a21c0d7495200
villagerAnd let's scrawl our House Number 7 here, in ascending order of the 6..11684537_house_2_661a21c293621300
villagerand draw another fence here to mark off another "Size 3 estate"..11684537_estate-fence_2_561a21c2aab4d2001684537_estate-fence_2_5 6
villagerOh look.. we need a House Number 1. And its conveniently paired with the effect to increase the estate size points. Let's take that. 1construction-card-6561a21c3a62f7200
villager...and scrawl down House Number 1 here...21684537_house_2_061a21c45db34f00
villager...and let's increase the Size 3 Estate scoring now to 5 per completed estate.11684537_score-estate_2_161a21c4813203001684537_score-estate_2_1 16
villagerremember, you can always change your mind... but let's continue for now..2pagemaintitletext61a21c4bc826500
villagerWe need the House Number 5 to neatly come before the 6 in street#3.. And it's paired with a new Effect card.. the Landscaper.1construction-card-4361a21c56c2f4200
villagerThe Landscaper effect card allows the player to build a PARK. Every nice neighborhood with expensive Estates needs Parks.. the more the better.. and the more you score as the Architect. Let's take it.2construction-card-4361a21c56c2f4200
villager.. and scrawl down House Number 5 here.. following all the placement rules...31684537_house_2_461a21c5f6016400
villagerAnd now build your fancy park! The player crosses off one of the trees at the end of the street. !!! Parks must be crossed off on the same street that the house number is written. !!! Parks are crossed off, left to right, in ascending order.41684537_park_2_061a21c6168ca100
villagerAlternatively, you can also click this button here to Build Park. Note, effects are optional.. so you can Pass.. but why you would you skip making a park?! Get them points!!5btnBuildPark61a21c6168ca100
villagerThe next open spot shows the number of points that Parks are scoring on this street. Notice all 3 streets have their own Park scoring circles.61684537_park_2_161a21c65013d3001684537_park_2_1 8
villagerBGA immediately scores your Parks too.. and shows your current points from all your features in the player sheet at the bottom.71684537_score_park-261a21c65013d3001684537_score_park-2 8 1684537_score_park-total 8
villagerYour current score, along with other players scores, are also shown here on the right side. The number next to the gold star is your Points.. right now a low 2 for your Park. 8player_score_168453761a21c65013d300player_score_1684537 8
villagerClick here to see the detailed score card for ALL PLAYERS.9show-overview61a21c65013d300
villagerThis shows the number of houses marked with House Numbers.10houses-status-container-9043942461a21c65013d300
villagerAnd this shows the number of Building Permit Refusals so far for each player. Anytime any player is unable to assign a House Number to any house, their Build Permit Refusal increases by 1. !!! [red]Keep a close eye on this counter. If it reaches 3, it not only gives -5 points for that player, but it also triggers the end of the game.[/red]11refusal-status-container-9043942461a21c65013d300
villagerOn your player sheet, Building Permit Refusals are tracked here. You are allowed one mistake before you start taking negative points.. -3 if you have two mistakes, and -5 + end of game when you hit 3.121684537_permit-refusal_061a21c65013d3001684537_permit-refusal_0 6 1684537_permit-refusal_1 6 1684537_permit-refusal_2 6
villagerObviously right now you have ZERO negative points so far, as you have managed to assign all flipped House Numbers.131684537_score_bis-total61a21c65013d3001684537_score_bis-total 8
villagerGoing to let the tutorial replay run at full speed now, until we reach a significant point..1pagemaintitletext61a21c6e3481900
villager2 new effect cards on offer here... Let's look at the Pool Manufacturer... It allows a player to score points when building houses that have a planned pool. 1construction-card-7361a21ca895d0200
villagerThis is an empty house with a planned pool.21684537_pool_1_361a21ca895d0200
villagerRemember, effects are optional? Well.. so are Pools.. as in real life, we can't all afford them :) So when assigning House Numbers, you can choose a house with a pool in it.. and just not build the pool. For example, our Houses 2 and 7 "could" have a pool, but we didn't have that effect then.. 31684537_pool_2_661a21ca895d0200
villagerOR, when you choose to construct the House Number paired with the Pool Manufacturer effect, you can also BUILD a sweet pool, and start a pool party!! Plus rack up some points too... Let's select these cards..4construction-card-7361a21ca895d0200
villagerAnd let's make House Number 10 with a pool here.. 11684537_house_1_361a21cabbb9be00
villagerand now click here to build the pool11684537_pool_1_361a21cc4700c4001684537_pool_1_3 8
villageror click the button here..2btnBuildPool61a21cc4700c400
villagerNotice BGA has automatically scratched off a position in the Pool scoring tracker. 3scribble-3561a21cc8cb15d00
villagerYou have added 3 more points to your score by building your FIRST pool.. every subsequent pool that you build gives you additional points.41684537_score_pool-total61a21cc8cb15d001684537_score_pool-total 8
villagerTime to look at a new effect card.. the Temp Agency. This effect allows the player to add or subtract 1 or 2 to the house number they are building. The Temp Agency allows the player to write numbers from 0 to 17. Let's select this.. 1construction-card-6861a21d5ead71200
villager..and reduce the value of House Number 8.. to either 7 or 6. ..or increase it to 9 or 10. Let's make it a 6 and scrawl it here. 11684537_house_1_261a21d84398d200
villagerBGA auto-magically scratches off one of the Temp Agency spaces here.. you have essentially hired a new temp worker. The more temp workers you hire.. the better your score. At the end of the game, the player with the most (or tied for most) gets 7 points.. next highest is 3.. and then finally 1.2scribble-5761a21d843bb25001684537_score_temp-total 8
villagerSo obviously, use the effect wisely, and get those hard to fit House Numbers.. My reasoning was to quickly start completing a Size-6 Estate, that I can use to complete the 2nd City Plan on offer.3plan-card-961a21d843bb2500
villagerFinally, i have completed the second CITY PLAN, which has the tough requirement for completing a Size 3 + Size 6 estate. Let's select it..1plan-card-961a21df69067b00
villagerBGA now auto-highlights all ELIGIBLE + COMPLETED Estates that can be used to accomplish the City Plan. !!! Once an estate has been used for a specific City Plan objective, it CANNOT be reused to complete a different City Plan Let's select one of the Size-6 and another Size-3 Estate..1plan-card-961a21dfd6feac00
villagerBGA marks the City Plan as Complete..1scribble-plan-961a21e0af3a5c00
villager..you were awarded 8 points as you were the First player to complete this plan..21684537_score_plan-161a21e0af3a5c001684537_score_plan-1 8
villagerOther players that complete this City Plan will get the *lower* second number shown here, ie 4 points. NOTE: - A player can only score each City Plan once. - To fulfill these City Plans, the player must complete [red]all of the required housing estates[/red] - The estates do not have to be in the same street. [green]There is no restriction to the location of a Plan’s estates.[/green]3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment61a21e0af3a5c00
villagerBGA also draws a red border on the top of the Estates used to complete a City Plan, indicating that these cannot be reused to accomplish a different City Plan on a future turn.. 4scribble-8261a21e0af3a5c00
villagerAt this point, you also get the glorious benefit of reshuffling the Construction Card deck.. maybe you will get those other House Numbers you need now.. but so will others.. 5btnReshuffle61a21e0af3a5c00
villagerWhen the deck is exhausted, they are auto-shuffled.. right now 12 remain.. but let's go ahead and shuffle them..6cards-count-status61a21e0af3a5c00
villageralmost at the end of the tutorial (yes i know, it's a long one :) ) One last Effect card to talk about.. the BIS card. Even though it has shown up in previous flips, one doesn't usually select it. Why? [red]Because its benefit comes with negative points![/red] 1construction-card-1361a21e7cd29ad00
villagerWhy is it called BIS? It's Latin for "Twice", and is used in France to denote duplexes / row houses that share the same house number (a nod to the developers roots). It allows the player to *duplicate a house number on any street.* The *new house must be directly adjacent, to the left or right of the house with the same number.* *Duplicate houses can never be separated by fences.*2construction-card-1361a21e7cd29ad00
villagerEvery time you use the BIS effect to duplicate a difficult house number, BGA tracks your negative points here. The more you use it, the more the negative points added from the next unused slot.31684537_score-bis_061a21e7cd29ad001684537_score-bis_0 8
villagerAnd now you know everything you need to know to enjoy a fun game of Welcome To! Congratulations on making it this far. I will leave you with a quick summary of the Game Ending conditions.. 1) If you accumulate 3 Build Permit Refusals (tracked here for you)..41684537_permit-refusal_061a21e7cd29ad00
villager2) A player achieves all three City Plans (tracked here for each player) Here, Orange player has completed the 2nd City Plan too5plan-status-1-9076734661a21e7cd29ad00
villager3) A player has built all of the houses on their streets. (tracked here by this number) Here, Green player has assigned 15 House Numbers out of total 33 spots.6houses-built-status-9043942461a21e7cd29ad00
