Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed124e8ef3.58357259.jpg[/img] Your people arrive in a valley in which humankind has not yet left a single footprint. Explore its regions and try to divine what Pachamama wishes you to plant in each location. [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
NekonyancerIn *Tiwanaku,* you will use deductive reasoning to predict which types of land and which crops have been predetermined for each space on the board. Correct guesses will be rewarded with victory points! When the board is full, [green]whoever has the most points wins![/green]2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000pawnsStacks 1
Nekonyancer[blue]On your turn, you can choose one of two actions:[/blue] *- Explore.* *or* *- Divine.* We'll start by learning about the *Explore* action. *Click on "Explore" at the top!*3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment010exploreLink 16
NekonyancerWhen you take an *Explore* action, the first thing you have to do is *move* a pawn. You start with *5/4/3* pawns in a *2/3/4* player game. *Select the indicated pawn!*1player92143487PawnsStack6440d4438a0ba10pawn_4 16
NekonyancerNow we have to select a *destination.* As you can see, when you move a pawn onto the board, it must start on the *edge* of the map. However, if it moves onto a space with a crop or another of your pawns, it must move further, onto any of that space's *orthogonally adjacent spaces.* [green][tip] All the colored circles are crops![/green]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6440d4449475700
NekonyancerIn other words, we can reach [red]*this space*[/red] because the space above it has a crop, letting us move freely through it! [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed12746b33.13646073.jpg[/img]2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6440d4449475700
NekonyancerIf you move onto an unexplored space, your pawn's movement immediately ends with you *discovering* it. Let's see it in action! *Move onto [red]this space!*[/red] [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed12961bd7.16628038.jpg[/img]3pawn_96440d4449475710
NekonyancerGreat! The tile has now been revealed as what the game predetermined the tile to be: *dirt.* Since we discovered dirt, we gained 1 "diversity" in dirt. Whenever you gain diversity, you gain one point for each type of terrain in which you have the [green]same amount of diversity.[/green]1pawn_46440d447db0cf00
NekonyancerYou can see your diversity levels [red]*here.*[/red] Our dirt level rose to 1, and since we didn't have a level of 1 in any other terrain types, we only gained 1 point. [blue]However, if we discover sand next, we would then have diversity of 1 in two types, scoring another two points![/blue]2diversity_container_921434876440d447db0cf00diversity_container_92143487 1
NekonyancerTherefore, you can *maximize* your points by discovering *equal amounts of the four terrain tiles!* To do that, you'll need to predict what they are. That will require a bit of explanation...3diversity_container_921434876440d447db0cf00
NekonyancerFirst, *regions.*---The great Pachamama divided grouped all the spaces into regions. [blue]Each region is a collection of 5 or fewer adjacent terrain tiles of the same type.[/blue] Separate regions of the same type may never touch each other, even diagonally.4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6440d447db0cf00
NekonyancerNext, *crops.* [blue]There are five different types, and each is associated with a number:[/blue] Sweet potato - 1 Coca leaves - 2 Chili pepper - 3 Corn - 4 Quinoa - 55archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6440d447db0cf00
Nekonyancer[blue]The Rule of Diversity[/blue]---Each region may *NOT* contain two crops of the same type. In addition, the types of crops must match the size of the region. For example, a size 1 region would feature the 1 crop (sweet potato). A size 2 region would feature a 1 crop and a 2 crop (coca leaves). And so on!6archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6440d447db0cf00
Nekonyancer[blue]The Rule of Separation[/blue]---Two crops of the same type may *never* touch. Not even corners, and not even if they're in different regions!7archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6440d447db0cf00
NekonyancerI know that was a lot to take in, but the pieces will fall into place as we move forward. Let's take another *Explore* action. [green]Unfortunately, this step is a little buggy in tutorial mode, so I'll have to click on the Explore button for you...[/green]8archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6440d447db0cf00
NekonyancerJust like before, we have to select a pawn. *Select this one!*1pawn_36440d45a8babd10pawn_3 16
Nekonyancer*Move [red]here![/red]* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed12b84379.84253025.jpg[/img]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6440d45b615bf10
Nekonyancer[red]Good! Lots of stuff to unpack already.[/red] First of all, we discovered a [green]Grass[/green] space, bringing our Diversity in grass up to 1. Since we also had 1 Diversity in dirt, we gained 2 points!1pawn_36440d461099de00pawn_3 8
NekonyancerSecond, note that the grass space we just discovered is diagonally touching this [green]*other grass space.*[/green] [blue]What can we deduce from this?[/blue]2tokenCrop_4_16440d461099de00tokenCrop_4_1 8
NekonyancerWell, remember that separate regions of the same type may *never* touch each other, even diagonally. Therefore, the two grass tiles must actually be in the same region. And if they're in the same region, [green]*this space*[/green] must also be grass, connecting the other two grass spaces! [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed12dc4d26.75623001.jpg[/img]3pawn_36440d461099de00
NekonyancerNext, let's consider [red]*this sand tile.*[/red] Pachamama has already ordained that a chili pepper be planted here; that's the #3 crop. That means that the region that this sand tile belongs to must be at least size 3! Therefore, at least two of those [blue]*unknown corner tiles*[/blue] must be sand tiles! [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed13089e94.46792211.jpg[/img]4pawn_36440d461099de00tokenCrop_2_2 6
NekonyancerI'll fast-forward through a couple more explore actions to prove it to you!5archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6440d461099de00
Nekonyancer[green]There we go![/green] Turns out all those spaces were sand tiles! [blue]We're perfectly set up for a *divine* action now.[/blue]1square_2_26440d4bb3b2ad00
NekonyancerWhen you take a divine action, you may *guess* what crop should be planted on a space one of your pawns is on. [blue]If you're correct, you'll get:[/blue] - Points equal to the number of the crop. - An offering matching the crop type. - Another divine action. [blue]If you're wrong:[/blue] - You'll lose points equal to the number of the crop. - Your turn will immediately end.2tokenCrop_2_26440d4bb3b2ad00
NekonyancerLet's do it! *Click on "Divine" at the top!*3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6440d4bb3b2ad10divineLink 16
NekonyancerAlright, let's break it all down. We know this sand region has four spaces, so it must have 4 different crops - *1, 2, 3, and 4.* We already knew where the [red]*3*[/red] was, and our opponent guessed on [blue]*this one,*[/blue] revealing it to be a 2. [green]The remaining two spaces must therefore be 1 and 4![/green]1tokenCrop_2_26440d4ce64bb000tokenCrop_2_2 6 pawn_7 7
NekonyancerFurthermore, the [blue]Rule of Separation[/blue] states that two crops of the same number may *never touch* each other, even if they're in different regions. Since there's a 1 crop [red]*here,*[/red] there *can't* be a 1 crop [blue]*here!*[/blue] That means the 4 crop must be [blue]*here,*[/blue] and the 1 is in the corner!2tokenCrop_2_26440d4ce64bb000tokenCrop_1_3 6 pawn_1 7
Nekonyancer*Select this pawn!*3pawn_16440d4ce64bb010pawn_1 16
NekonyancerA menu of crops SHOULD pop up here, but it's buggy in tutorial mode. What can you do? =/ It should look like this... [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed13311c19.26813290.jpg[/img] I'll click on the 4 for you...1pawn_26440d4d5ebc7600
Nekonyancer*We were correct!* We scored four points, gained 1 [red]*corn offering*[/red] (in our inventory), and may continue divining with the rest of our pawns. [green]I'll explain offerings in a second. First, let's finish divining![/green]1square_1_26440d4d83e9c900offering_Corn_icon_92143487 1
NekonyancerWe already deduced that this space contains a 1. *Select the pawn!*2pawn_26440d4d83e9c910pawn_2 16
NekonyancerI'll select 1 for you... [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed13502d94.68876565.jpg[/img]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6440d4da9b65400
Nekonyancer*Correct again!* Let's keep going! Do we know what [green]*this space*[/green] contains?1pawn_46440d4dcd36bd00pawn_4 8
NekonyancerWe sure do! It's a region of only *1 space.* Therefore, it must contain a *1 crop!* [blue]I'll fast-forward through this divination...[/blue]2pawn_46440d4dcd36bd00
NekonyancerWe have one more pawn on the board that we can divine with, if we so choose. Do we know anything about [green]*this space?*[/green]1pawn_36440d4e1cc39700pawn_3 8
NekonyancerWell, because of [red]*adjacent crops,*[/red] we know it can't be 1, 2, or 3. [green]It can only be 4 or 5![/green]2pawn_36440d4e1cc39700tokenCrop_4_1 6 tokenCrop_2_2 6 tokenCrop_2_1 6 tokenCrop_3_1 6
NekonyancerWhat's life without a little risk, right? *Select this pawn.* I'll select corn (4) for you.3pawn_36440d4e1cc39710pawn_3 16
Nekonyancer[green]Right again!![/green] Alright, we're out of pawns to divine with. The last thing we can do is *make an offering.*1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6440d4f7f334d00
NekonyancerWe can see all our offering tokens [red]*here.*[/red] We currently have tokens for sweet potato and corn because those are the crop types that we divined. [red]Unfortunately, we can only hold *one* of each type of token at a time![/red]2offering_Coca_icon_921434876440d4f7f334d00offerings_container_92143487 6
NekonyancerWhen we make an offering, we simply turn in up to 5 offering tokens in exchange for points. *1/2/3/4/5* offering tokens yield *0/1/3/6/10* points!3offering_Chili_icon_921434876440d4f7f334d00
NekonyancerLet's do it! *Click here to make an offering! Then continue to the next box.*4makeOfferingButton6440d4f7f334d00makeOfferingButton 16
Nekonyancer*Select the indicated offering tokens.* *Then click on "Offering!"*5archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6440d4f7f334d10offering_Corn_icon 17 offering_SweetP_icon 17 offeringYes 18
Nekonyancer[green]Good! We gained one point.[/green] There's just one more thing to show you...1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6440d523e433200
NekonyancerYou can move pawns that are already on the board. Remember, they can move freely through spaces with *crops or your own pawns,* and it's best to stop on *unexplored* spaces. [blue]I'll pick Explore for you now.[/blue]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6440d5528105f00
Nekonyancer*Now select this pawn...*1pawn_26440d55a73f4210pawn_2 16
Nekonyancer*... and move it [red]here![/red]* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed136a35f8.07419514.jpg[/img]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6440d55da230910
Nekonyancer[blue]Alright, I think you've seen enough![/blue] The game will continue until the last terrain tile is placed on the board, triggering the end! After that, all the players take turns making [green]final divinations,[/green] one at a time. If a player chooses not to divine and passes, they're done for the rest of the game.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6440d55e85f7a00
NekonyancerWhen no one can or wants to divine anymore, the game ends. Everyone can make one last offering. [green]Whoever has the most points wins![/green]2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6440d55e85f7a00
Nekonyancer[blue]There are two big variants I must mention: Solo mode and cooperative mode![/blue] In both modes, you play against the Otoma people. Whenever you *Explore,* you may trigger an automatic Otoma movement, which are controlled by arrows on the board. When an Otoma lands on an undiscovered space, it immediately discovers the tile and correctly divines the crop there, earning points for both! [green]You must get more points than the Otoma to win![/green]3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6440d55e85f7a00
NekonyancerIf you plan to try this game in Solo mode or Cooperative mode, I think you'll need to consult the rulebook. Rules for Solo mode are on *Page 8.* Rules for Cooperative mode are on *Page 10.*4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6440d55e85f7a00
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Tiwanaku!*[/blue] If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message! A big thank you goes out to *tet2brick* for bringing this game to BGA! Have fun! :D5archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6440d55e85f7a00
