Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed5ff2ab83.86430541.jpg[/img] From the craggy hillsides of Edinburgh to the sunlit docks of Constantinople, from the dusty alleys of Pamplona to a windswept station in Berlin, *Ticket to Ride: Europe* takes you on a new train adventure through the great cities of turn-of-the-century Europe! [green]This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1maintitlebar_content000
Nekonyancer*Ticket to Ride: Europe* is a slightly more complicated version of *Ticket to Ride,* which is also on BGA. [red]If you are familiar with the original,[/red] you only need to go through the next *7* steps of this tutorial. I'll only explain the *new features.* [blue]If you are NOT familiar with the original,[/blue] *skip* the next 7 steps (press the Spacebar *8* times).2maintitlebar_content000
Nekonyancer[blue]*New Feature #1: Long routes*[/blue]---All the destination cards have been sorted into [red]*regular routes*[/red] and [blue]*long routes.*[/blue] At the beginning of the game, each player is dealt one long and three regular routes (on the right side of the screen). At least *two* of them must be kept. [green]If you draw more destination cards during the game, you will only draw regular routes.[/green]3maintitlebar_content000destination-stock_item_6 7 destination-stock_item_8 6 destination-stock_item_12 6 destination-stock_item_35 6
Nekonyancer[blue]*New Feature #2: Tunnels*[/blue]---[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed601bf909.52900242.jpg[/img] Tunnels are marked by *studded black outlines.*4maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerWhenever you build a tunnel, BGA will reveal *three random train cards* from the deck. You must pay an additional card of the same color for each revealed card that [red]matches the cards you used to construct the route.[/red]5maintitlebar_content000
Nekonyancer[blue]*New Feature #3: Ferries*[/blue]---Ferries must be paid for with *Locomotive* (wild) cards. For example, [red]*this route*[/red] has 2 regular spaces and 1 ferry. You would have to use 2 cards of the same color and 1 Locomotive to build it.6route-spaces-route69-space0000route-spaces-route43-space1 9 route-spaces-route69-space0 1 route-spaces-route69-space1 1 route-spaces-route69-space2 1 route-spaces-route70-space0 10
Nekonyancer[blue]*New Feature #4: Train Stations*[/blue]---Each player starts with [red]*3 Train Stations.*[/red] You may spend a turn to place one of them in a city. Each city can only accommodate one station. Each station allows you to use *one* claimed route going out of that city [blue]as if it were your own,[/blue] helping you complete *Destination Tickets.* Stations do NOT contribute to your longest continuous route.7station-counter-11941354-wrapper000station-counter-11941354-wrapper 1
NekonyancerThe *first* station you build costs *1* Train card. The *second* costs *2* cards of the same color. The *third* costs *3* cards of the same color. [green]Each unbuilt station is worth 4 points at the end of the game.[/green]8station-counter-11941354-wrapper000
NekonyancerOkay, that's everything! [blue]To recap, the new features are:[/blue] *1. Long Routes* (1 per player). *2. Tunnels* (may cost additional cards). *3. Ferries* (need Locomotive cards). *4. Stations* (use opponents' routes). [red]You can quit the tutorial now.[/red] Have fun! :D9maintitlebar_content000
Nekonyancer[blue]If you're reading this, that means you need a tutorial from the beginning.[/blue] In *Ticket to Ride,* your goal is to connect certain cities by claiming railway routes on the map! The first thing we have to do is see which cities we have to connect.10maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerEach player was dealt four *destination tickets:* one [blue]*long route*[/blue] and 3 [red]*regular routes.*[/red] You should be able to see them on the right side of your screen. We must keep *at least two* of them. Each ticket displays *two cities* and a *number of points.*11route-spaces-route2-space2000route-spaces-route31-space0 9 route-spaces-route75-space3 14 route-spaces-route77-space1 9 route-spaces-route79-space1 9 destination-stock_item_6 7 destination-stock_item_8 6 destination-stock_item_12 6 destination-stock_item_35 6
NekonyancerIf we successfully connect the cities on a card with railroads, we'll get the points shown on the card! But be warned: [red]if we fail to connect them, we will instead *LOSE* the number of points shown![/red] As you can probably guess, [blue]*Long Routes*[/blue] are harder to connect but are worth more points.12route-spaces-route2-space2000destination-stock_item_6 7
NekonyancerHold your mouse over the [blue]*Lisboa - Danzig*[/blue] ticket. Those two cities should light up! Cool, huh? Now move your mouse to [red]*Barcelona - München.*[/red] Wow, this ticket's path lies almost exactly on top of the first ticket's path, doesn't it? [green]Since they overlap, we'll be able to complete both of them simultaneously with minimal effort![/green]13route-spaces-route2-space2000route-spaces-route31-space0 9 route-spaces-route77-space1 9 destination-stock_item_6 7 destination-stock_item_35 6
NekonyancerNext, take a look at [green]*Brest - Marseille.*[/green] Hmm... Marseille is on the same path, but Brest is off to the side. Still, it doesn't look too bad. Finally, hover over [red]*Angora - Kharkov.*[/red] Yikes, that doesn't overlap with any of the other tickets. It's probably not worth the effort.14route-spaces-route2-space2000destination-stock_item_8 8 destination-stock_item_12 6
NekonyancerRemember, you must keep at least *2* of the initial 4 tickets. *Select [green]Lisboa - Danzig, Barcelona - München,[/green] and [green]Brest - Marseille.[/green]* *Then click on [blue]"Keep selected destinations"[/blue] at the top!*15route-spaces-route2-space2010chooseInitialDestinations_button 2 destination-stock_item_6 8 destination-stock_item_8 8 destination-stock_item_12 13 destination-stock_item_35 8
Nekonyancer*Great!* The tickets we selected are now tucked away in the [blue]*bottom-left corner*[/blue] of your screen. The cities on those tickets turned *[green]green[/green]* on the map.1city136580d2969aa5a00destination-card-35 7 destination-card-8 7 destination-card-6 7 city4 3 city6 3 city13 3 city22 3 city25 3 city27 3
NekonyancerAnd just above our tickets, you can see our *starting hand* of 4 random *Train cards.* There are eight different colors of Train cards, plus [green]*Locomotives,*[/green] which are *wild* (every color at once)! [green]We were very lucky to get two Locomotives in our starting hand![/green]2train-car-group-06580d2969aa5a00train-car-group-0 8
NekonyancerNow the game will start for real! [blue]Each turn, you can do one of four things:[/blue] *- Draw Train cards.* *- Claim a route.* *- Build a Train Station.* *- Draw Destination Tickets.*3maintitlebar_content6580d2969aa5a00
NekonyancerWe'll start by learning about *drawing Train cards.* As you can see, there are [red]*five cards*[/red] laid out on the right side of the screen. We can choose any one of them, or a random card from the [blue]*top of the deck.*[/blue]4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6580d2969aa5a00train-car-deck-hidden-pile 7 train-car-card-73 6 train-car-card-31 6 train-car-card-4 6 train-car-card-101 6 train-car-card-30 6
Nekonyancer*Click on this yellow card to take it!*5train-car-card-316580d2969aa5a10train-car-card-31 16
NekonyancerAs soon as we did, [blue]*another card*[/blue] was dealt from the deck to take its place. Now we can take a *second* card. Again, we can choose any card we want...1train-car-card-76580d2c7b120100train-car-card-7 7
Nekonyancer... except a *Locomotive* (wild card). [blue]There are two restrictions for taking Locomotives:[/blue] *1.* You may not choose a Locomotive as your *second* card. *2.* If you choose a Locomotive as your *first* card, you may not choose a second card at all!2train-car-card-76580d2c7b120100
Nekonyancer*Take another yellow card!*4train-car-card-736580d2c7b120110train-car-card-73 16
NekonyancerNext turn! Let's take cards from the [blue]*deck*[/blue] this time. [green]Drawing from the deck has two advantages:[/green] *1.* No one will know what we draw. *2.* The restrictions I mentioned for *Locomotives* do not apply! [blue]Thus, it's possible to draw two Locomotives from the deck in a single turn![/blue]1train-car-deck-hidden-pile6580d2e20d57b00train-car-deck-hidden-pile 7
Nekonyancer*Click here to draw a card!*2train-car-deck-hidden-pile6580d2e20d57b10train-car-deck-hidden-pile 16
Nekonyancer*What luck! Another [green]Locomotive!*[/green] Since it was drawn from the deck, and not one of the face-up slots, we can still take a second card this turn.1train-car-group-06580d30ab1d2900train-car-group-0 8
Nekonyancer*Take another card from the deck!*2train-car-deck-hidden-pile6580d30ab1d2910train-car-deck-hidden-pile 16
NekonyancerNext, let's learn about *claiming routes.* You see all the colored routes on the map? To claim one, [green]you need one card of the corresponding color for each bar in the route.[/green] For example, the route from [blue]*Wilno to Petrograd*[/blue] has *4* bars in it, so we would need *4* blue cards to claim it! We're not allowed to claim half of it!1route-spaces-route14-space06580d4a35693100route-spaces-route14-space0 2 route-spaces-route14-space1 2 route-spaces-route14-space2 2 route-spaces-route14-space3 2
Nekonyancer*Gray* routes can be claimed with cards of any color, but all cards used must be the *same color!*2route-spaces-route74-space16580d4a35693100route-spaces-route74-space0 12 route-spaces-route74-space1 12 route-spaces-route74-space3 12
NekonyancerLet's claim this route from *Madrid to Barcelona.* It requires 2 yellow cards, which we have in our hand! *Click here!*3route-spaces-route41-space16580d4a35693110route-spaces-route41-space0 16 route-spaces-route41-space1 16
Nekonyancer*Great!* Two train cars of our color were placed on the route, establishing that it belongs to us. No one else can claim that route now!1route-spaces-route64-space26580d4b40bc1700
NekonyancerSince we claimed a route, we gained some [red]*victory points,*[/red] according to this chart. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed60378fc5.19284472.jpg[/img] [green]The route we claimed is 2 cars long, so we scored 2 points![/green]2route-spaces-route64-space26580d4b40bc1700player_score_11941354 1
NekonyancerNext, let's claim a different sort of route: *a tunnel.* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed60578918.14159573.jpg[/img] Tunnels are marked by *studded black outlines.* Whenever we build one, BGA will draw three random Train cards from the deck. We must pay 1 additional card of the same color for each drawn card that matches the cards we used to construct the tunnel.1maintitlebar_content6580d4bd5960b00
NekonyancerFor example, this pink route normally requires 2 pink cards. But if BGA draws additional pinks (or wilds), we'll have to pay more! *Click here to claim the route!*2route-spaces-route40-space06580d4bd5960b10route-spaces-route40-space0 16 route-spaces-route40-space1 16
Nekonyancer[red]Here are the cards BGA drew.[/red] *Shoot!* One of them is pink, which means we have to pay an additional pink card. At this point, we can either... - [blue]*Confirm tunnel claim,*[/blue] paying the extra card and claiming the route. - [green]*Skip tunnel claim.*[/green] We won't use any cards, but we will have wasted our turn! *Click on [blue]Confirm tunnel claim![/blue]*1train-car-deck-hidden-pile6580d4c5ece7c10claimTunnel_button 2 skipTunnel_button 3 train-car-deck-hidden-pile 6
Nekonyancer*Great!* We've claimed two routes now. In order to complete our Destination Tickets, we'll have to make one long connected route, [blue]*like this!*[/blue] We'll also need an [red]*offshoot*[/red] for Brest.1route-spaces-route71-space06580d4d537ede00route-spaces-route2-space0 2 route-spaces-route2-space1 2 route-spaces-route2-space2 2 route-spaces-route33-space0 2 route-spaces-route33-space1 2 route-spaces-route33-space2 2 route-spaces-route36-space0 2 route-spaces-route36-space1 2 route-spaces-route48-space0 2 route-spaces-route48-space1 2 route-spaces-route49-space0 1 route-spaces-route49-space1 1 route-spaces-route49-space2 1 route-spaces-route58-space0 1 route-spaces-route58-space1 1 route-spaces-route58-space2 1 route-spaces-route70-space0 2 route-spaces-route70-space1 2 route-spaces-route70-space2 2 route-spaces-route70-space3 2 route-spaces-route91-space0 2 route-spaces-route91-space1 2 route-spaces-route91-space2 2 route-spaces-route91-space3 2
Nekonyancer[blue]There are two more kinds of routes I need to go over.[/blue] First, [red]*ferries,*[/red] which are marked by silhouettes of Locomotives. Each ferry space requires the use of a Locomotive card.2route-spaces-route69-space06580d4d537ede00route-spaces-route65-space1 1 route-spaces-route66-space1 1 route-spaces-route67-space0 1 route-spaces-route67-space1 1 route-spaces-route68-space0 1 route-spaces-route69-space0 1
NekonyancerFor example, [red]*this route*[/red] would require 2 cards of the same color - remember, that's what gray means - and 1 Locomotive.3route-spaces-route69-space06580d4d537ede00route-spaces-route69-space0 1 route-spaces-route69-space1 1 route-spaces-route69-space2 1
NekonyancerThe last kind is *double routes,* referring to any two routes that run *parallel* to each other. In a [green]2 or 3 player[/green] game, after one person claims part of a double route, 🚫 are placed on the parallel route to show it is off limits.4route-spaces-route46-space16580d4d537ede00
NekonyancerIn a [green]4 or 5 player[/green] game, the parallel route would still be available, but not to the person who claimed the first one - one player may not claim both sides of a double route. [red]We'll see an example of a double route being claimed later.[/red]5route-spaces-route46-space16580d4d537ede00
Nekonyancer[red]*Uhoh!*[/red] Our opponent just claimed *Lisboa - Madrid!* We could go the long way around - through Cadiz - to get to Lisboa, but our opponent might block us there too. [green]Instead, let's build a *Train Station.*[/green]1route-spaces-route51-space06580d5988483400
NekonyancerEach player starts with [green]*3 stations*[/green] in their inventory. When we build one in a city, we can use one of our opponent's claimed routes that connect to that city [green]as if it were our own.[/green] The *first* station we build costs *1* Train card. The *second* costs *2* cards of the same color. The *third* costs *3* cards of the same color.2station-counter-11941354-wrapper6580d5988483400station-counter-11941354-wrapper 3
Nekonyancer*Click on Lisboa to build a Train Station!* *Then use a black card! Finally, confirm!*3city226580d5988483410city22 16
Nekonyancer*Great!* We now have a connection to Lisboa, through our opponent's claimed route. By the way, each city can only accommodate *1* train station, so no one can build in Lisboa anymore! Also, each unbuilt station is worth [green]4 points[/green] at the end of the game!1route-spaces-route64-space26580d5bb0984a00
NekonyancerOur opponent just claimed a route from *Frankfurt to Berlin.* Since it was part of a *double route,* and this is a [green]2 player[/green] game, the parallel route is now [red]off limits.[/red]1route-spaces-route56-space16580d5cc23e3b00
NekonyancerThere's only one more action to show you: *drawing Destination Tickets.* It's similar to what we did at the beginning of the game. But this time, we'll draw 3 [red]*regular*[/red] routes. No one can get any more [blue]*long*[/blue] ones! Of those 3 drawn tickets, we must keep at least *1.* *Click on "Draw 3 destination tickets" at the top! Then confirm!*2pagemaintitletext6580d5cc23e3b10drawDestinations_button 16
NekonyancerHmm, let's see what we got... [red]*Brest - Venezia, Marseille - Essen, Stockholm - Wien.*[/red] Remember, we don't want to bite off more than we can chew! Any incomplete tickets will incur penalties at the end of the game! *With that in mind, which ticket(s) do you think we should take?*1route-spaces-route46-space26580d608ebd0300destination-stock_item_15 6 destination-stock_item_39 6 destination-stock_item_44 6
NekonyancerWe were already planning on connecting *Brest* and *Marseille.* Neither *Essen* nor *Venezia* will take us far out of our way! And besides, what board gamer wouldn't want to visit Essen? :) Stockholm might be doable as well, but it's a little risky. Let's play it safe. *Select [blue]Brest - Venezia[/blue] and [blue]Marseille - Essen.[/blue] Then click on "Keep selected destinations" at the top!*2route-spaces-route46-space26580d608ebd0310destination-stock_item_15 7 destination-stock_item_39 7
Nekonyancer*Great!* Those two tickets were added to our inventory, and just like before, the cities on the cards turned [green]green[/green] for us.1destination-card-396580d628f419600
NekonyancerThere's just one last thing to mention: the *longest continuous route bonus.* It's self-explanatory; whoever has the longest continuous route gets [green]10 extra points![/green] For this bonus, loops are allowed, but each train car can only be counted once! For example, [blue]*this route*[/blue] would be 18 cars long! Also, Train Stations do not extend your continuous route.2maintitlebar_content6580d628f419600route-spaces-route82-space0 2 route-spaces-route82-space1 2 route-spaces-route82-space2 2 route-spaces-route82-space3 2 route-spaces-route94-space0 2 route-spaces-route94-space1 2 route-spaces-route95-space0 2 route-spaces-route95-space1 2 route-spaces-route96-space0 2 route-spaces-route96-space1 2 route-spaces-route96-space2 2 route-spaces-route96-space3 2 route-spaces-route99-space0 2 route-spaces-route99-space1 2 route-spaces-route99-space2 2 route-spaces-route99-space3 2 route-spaces-route99-space4 2 route-spaces-route99-space5 2
Nekonyancer*And that's it!* The game will continue as you've seen until one player has only [red]*2 train cars*[/red] left in their inventory. Everyone will get one turn after that (including the player who triggered the end) and then [green]BGA will count up the points![/green]3train-car-counter-11941354-wrapper6580d628f419600train-car-counter-11941354-wrapper 1
Nekonyancer[blue]Each player's score is comprised of 5 things:[/blue] • Points from claimed routes. • Points from unbuilt train stations (4 each). • Points from complete destination tickets. • [red]Minus[/red] points from incomplete destination tickets. • 10 points for having the longest continuous route.4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6580d628f419600
Nekonyancer[green]Whoever has the most points wins![/green] If there's a tie, whoever has the most *complete Destination Tickets* wins! If there's still a tie, whoever has the *longest continuous route* wins!5maintitlebar_content6580d628f419600
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Ticket to Ride: Europe!*[/blue] If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message! A big thank you goes out to *thoun* for bringing this game to BGA! Have fun! :D6maintitlebar_content6580d628f419600
