You and your four friends are competing to see who can visit the most cities in America by rail in just seven days!
[green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
NekonyancerIn *Ticket to Ride,* [blue]your goal is to connect certain cities by claiming railway routes on the map![/blue]
The first thing we have to do is see which cities we have to connect.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
NekonyancerEveryone has drawn three [red]*destination tickets,*[/red] which you can see along the right side of your screen. We must keep *at least two* of them.
Each card displays *two cities* and a *number of points.*3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000map-route79-space0 15 map-route79-space1 15 map-route92-space1 10 destination-stock_item_1 6 destination-stock_item_2 6 destination-stock_item_26 6
NekonyancerIf we successfully connect the cities on a card with railroads, we'll get the points shown on the card!
But be warned: [red]if we fail to connect them, we will instead *LOSE* the number of points shown![/red]
So don't be too greedy with destination cards!6archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
NekonyancerHold your mouse over the *Chicago - Santa Fe* card. Those two cities should light up! Cool, huh?
Now move your mouse to *Denver - Pittsburgh.* Hmm, those cities are right next to Chicago and Santa Fe, aren't they?
[green]Those paths overlap a great deal, so it shouldn't be too hard to complete both of them simultanously![/green]7maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerNow look at the *Winnipeg - Houston card.* Looks like a completely different route than the other two. This one probably isn't worth the effort.
*Click on Chicago - Santa Fe and Denver - Pittsburgh. Then click on "Keep selected destinations" at the top!*8archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment010chooseInitialDestinations_button 18 destination-stock_item_1 17 destination-stock_item_2 17
Nekonyancer*Great!* Two things to note here:
1. The cities of the tickets we selected turned *[green]green[/green]* on the map.
2. We started with a [blue]*hand of 4 cards,*[/blue] shown on the left side of your screen (bottom, if you're on a phone).1train-car-group-06326f6bb64d3000player-table-11941354-train-cars 7
NekonyancerNow the game will start for real!
[blue]Each turn, you can do one of three things:[/blue]
*- Draw cards.*
*- Claim a route.*
*- Draw destination tickets.*2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6326f6bb64d3000
NekonyancerWe'll start by learning about *drawing cards.*
As you can see, there are [red]*five cards*[/red] laid out on the right side of the screen. We can choose any one of them, or a random card from the [blue]*top of the deck.*[/blue]3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6326f6bb64d3000train-car-deck-hidden-pile 7 train-car-card-32 6 train-car-card-101 6 train-car-card-23 6 train-car-card-72 6 train-car-card-59 6
Nekonyancer*Click on this black card to take it!*4train-car-card-1016326f6bb64d3010train-car-card-101 16
NekonyancerAs soon as we did, [blue]*another card*[/blue] was dealt from the deck to take its place. Now we can take a *second* card. Again, we can choose any card we want...1train-car-card-26326f6e12242800train-car-card-2 7
Nekonyancer... [red]*Except for this one. This is a wild card,*[/red] so it has some restrictions.
*1.* You may not choose a wild card as your second card.
*2.* If you choose a wild card as your *first* card, you may not choose a second card at all!2train-car-card-326326f6e12242800train-car-card-32 6
NekonyancerHowever, those restrictions only apply to *revealed* wild cards. If you draw from the deck and it turns out to be wild, you don't have to follow the restrictions because you don't have to reveal what you drew!
[blue]Thus, it's possible to draw two wilds from the deck in a single turn![/blue]3train-car-card-26326f6e12242800
Nekonyancer*For our second card, let's take another black.*4train-car-card-26326f6e12242810train-car-card-2 16
NekonyancerNext turn! Let's learn about *claiming routes.*
You see all the colored routes on the map? To claim one, [blue]you need one card of the corresponding color for each bar in the route.[/blue]
For example, the route from *Los Angeles to El Paso* (see arrows) has *6* bars in it, so we would need *6* black cards to claim it! We're not allowed to claim half of it!1map-route45-space26326f705e353b00map-route45-space0 12 map-route45-space1 12 map-route45-space2 12 map-route45-space3 12 map-route45-space4 12 map-route45-space5 12
Nekonyancer*Gray* routes can be claimed with cards of any color, but all cards used must be the *same color!*2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6326f705e353b00
NekonyancerLet's claim this route, from Chicago to Pittsburgh. It requires 3 black cards, but we can pay for it with 2 black cards and 1 wild!
*Click here!*3map-route20-space16326f705e353b10map-route20-space0 16 map-route20-space1 16 map-route20-space2 16
Nekonyancer*Great!* Three train cars of our color were placed on the route, establishing that it belongs to us. No one else can claim that route now!
We have now connected *Chicago* and *Pittsburgh!* We'll need to claim a few more to reach Denver and Santa Fe!
[green][tip] You can claim routes anywhere on the map at any time, even if they don't immediately connect to other claimed routes![/green]1map-route83-space46326f716716e400
NekonyancerSince we claimed a route, we gained some [red]*victory points,*[/red] according to this chart.
[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/https___snipboard.io_qB1GPe.jpg[/img]
[green]The route we claimed is 3 cars long, so we gained 4 points![/green]2icon_point_119413546326f716716e400player_score_11941354 1
NekonyancerNote that there's another route running parallel to ours that requires orange cards, making this a *double route.*
[red]In 2 or 3 player games, only one line of each double route can be claimed.[/red]
Little red signs were placed on the other route to show that it's off limits!4map-route19-space26326f716716e400
NekonyancerIn 4/5 player games, *both* routes can be claimed, *but not by the same player!*5map-route19-space26326f716716e400
Nekonyancer*Next turn!* Let's learn about the last action: drawing destination tickets. This is similar to what you did at the beginning of the game.
But this time, instead of keeping at least 2 of the 3 tickets, you only have to keep 1.
*Click on "Draw 3 destination tickets" at the top!*1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6326f7366302c10drawDestinations_button 16
NekonyancerHmm, let's see what we got...
[red]*Los Angeles - Miami,*
*Los Angeles - New York,*
*Sault St. Marie - Oklahoma City.*[/red]
Remember, we don't want to bite off more than we can chew! Any incomplete tickets will incur penalties!
*With that in mind, which ticket(s) do you think should we take?*1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6326f7434cd8f00destination-stock_item_10 6 destination-stock_item_21 6 destination-stock_item_24 6
NekonyancerLos Angeles - Miami is probably not a good idea. It will take a lot of work to reach Miami.
[green]*Los Angeles - New York*[/green] is a great ticket! Los Angeles isn't far from Santa Fe, and New York is very close to Pittsburgh, so we were already going to finish 80% of this ticket anyway!2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6326f7434cd8f00destination-stock_item_10 13 destination-stock_item_21 8
Nekonyancer*Sault St. Marie - Oklahoma City* is... a little risky. An optimistic player might take it.3destination-stock_item_246326f7434cd8f00destination-stock_item_24 4
NekonyancerLet's play it safe!
*Select Los Angeles - New York.*
*Then click on "Keep selected destinations" at the top!*4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6326f7434cd8f10chooseAdditionalDestinations_button 18 destination-stock_item_21 17
Nekonyancer*Great!* There's just one more thing I have to mention: the *longest continuous route bonus.*
It's somewhat self-explanatory - whoever has the longest continuous route gets 10 points at the end!
For this bonus, loops are allowed, but each train car can only be counted once!
For example, *[blue]this route[/blue]* would be 15 cars long!1map-route31-space06326f78cb8b1100map-route30-space0 2 map-route30-space1 2 map-route30-space2 2 map-route30-space3 2 map-route35-space0 2 map-route35-space1 2 map-route35-space2 2 map-route35-space3 2 map-route35-space4 2 map-route37-space0 2 map-route37-space1 2 map-route37-space2 2 map-route50-space0 2 map-route50-space1 2 map-route50-space2 2
Nekonyancer*Okay, that's it!*
The game will continue as you've seen until one player is down to 0, 1, or 2 *[blue]remaining train cars.[/blue]*
[red]That triggers the end.[/red] Each player (including the triggering player) then gets one final turn, and then the game is over!2train-car-counter-92143487-wrapper6326f78cb8b1100train-car-counter-11941354-wrapper 2 train-car-counter-92143487-wrapper 2
Nekonyancer[blue]Each player's score is composed of only four things:[/blue]
*-* Points from claimed routes.
*-* Points from complete destination tickets.
*-* Minus points from incomplete destination tickets.
*-* 10 bonus points for having the longest continuous route.3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6326f78cb8b1100
Nekonyancer[green]Whoever has the most points wins![/green]
If there's a tie, whoever has the most complete destination tickets wins!
If there's still a tie, the player with the longest continuous route wins!4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6326f78cb8b1100
