NekonyancerWelcome to [blue]*Seotda,*[/blue] a Korean betting game played with *Hwatu* cards! [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
Nekonyancer*Hwatu* cards are a Korean version of Japanese *Hanafuda* cards, which can be compared to the standard cards used in Western cultures. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ecdcc5dda8.99315124.jpg[/img] However, instead of having 4 suits of 13 cards each, Hwatu cards have *12 suits* of *4 cards* each.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
NekonyancerEach suit features a different plant and is associated with a different month of the year. For example, [red]*this card*[/red] features *plum blossoms,* representing the month of *February.* Since it represents February, the second month, the card has been marked with a *2.* [green][tip] Seotda is played without the November or December cards, so 10 is the highest number![/green]3card_11941354_1000card_11941354_1 1
NekonyancerIn addition to suits, each card belongs to a different [blue]type,[/blue] of which there are four: *Bright:* Often has fancy artwork. *Ribbon:* Features a ribbon. *Animal:* Features animals, including insects. *Chaff:* Features only the month's plant. [green][tip] By default, Seotda removes all Chaff cards from the deck, but you can toggle them on in the lobby options![/green]4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
Nekonyancer[blue]Now that you know about Hwatu cards, let's learn how to play the game![/blue] In *Seotda,* players will be dealt cards. They can then place bets with points, much like in poker games. Afterward, cards are revealed, and whoever has the strongest hand takes the pot! [green]After a certain number of rounds, whoever has the most points is the winner![/green]5archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
NekonyancerYou will always be dealt *two cards* at the beginning of each round, which you can see here. This box also shows your current points and how much you have bet this round. As you can see, we have automatically bet 10. This automatic bet is called an *ante,* and the amount will double each round!6playertable_11941354000playertable_11941354 6
NekonyancerAfter receiving their two cards, every player must then choose one of them to reveal to everyone. *Click on the 2 card. Then click on "Select card" at the top!*7playertable_11941354010btnCardReveal 18 card_11941354_1 17
NekonyancerLooks like our opponent revealed a *7.* [blue]Now it's time for the first betting phase,[/blue] but first, we need to understand the *strength* of our hand.1playertable_921434876390233395c6100
NekonyancerAll you have to do is check the [red]Hand rank chart![/red] The higher a hand is on the chart, the stronger it is! Up here, you can see the five strongest hands in the game. All of them require *three specific cards.*2three_card_hand_16390233395c6100three_card_hand 6
NekonyancerBelow that, we can see hands that only require *2* cards. [red]We have a 1 and a 2, and this combination has been automatically highlighted for us in red![/red]3normal_hand_16390233395c6100
NekonyancerThe *"High sum"* hand will simply add the values of two cards to get a sum.4normal_hand_06390233395c6100
NekonyancerFinally, there are some special combinations that don't fit neatly into the chart. For example, the *Pair hunter* will win against any pair except a pair of tens. It will lose against anything else! [blue]For example, it can beat 9/9, but it will lose to 4/6![/blue] Don't worry about rematches for now. :)5special_hand6390233395c6100special_hand 7
NekonyancerNow let's get to the betting stuff. We're going to start this betting round. [blue]We have two options:[/blue] *- Check* (pass) *- Raise* (bet)7playertable_119413546390233395c6100
NekonyancerAs you can see in the Hand rank chart, 1/2 is a decent hand. Let's bet a little! *Type "20" into the box at the top. Then click on "Raise!"*8bet_input6390233395c6110
NekonyancerNow the game will give each player in turn order a choice: *- Call* (match our bet) *- Raise* (bet more than we did) *- Fold* (give up) When every player has either bet the same amount or folded, the game will move on.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6390234cea6aa00
NekonyancerThey *called,* matching our bet. Since they didn't raise, the game moved on, dealing a *third card* to everyone. [green]*We got a 10.*[/green] Hm, that doesn't really help us.1card_11941354_26390235727ac200card_11941354_2 3
NekonyancerNow we have one more betting round. Our new card doesn't help us, but our 1/2 combo is still decent! *Raise by another 20 points!*2bet_input6390235727ac210
NekonyancerWhoa! Our opponent called our bet of *20*... and then raised *50* on top of that! They must be really confident! As you can see, [red]the pot is now at 150 points.[/red]1information_zone639023779f1e300information_zone 1
Nekonyancer[blue]Now, we can...[/blue] *- Call,* matching their bet... *- Raise,* betting even more... *- Fold,* giving up the points we've bet already, but preventing us from losing even more. We've already put so much into the pot! It would be a shame to give it all up for nothing! Let's trust in our 1/2 hand! *Click on "Pay 50 and call" at the top!*2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment639023779f1e310
Nekonyancer[red]*Shoot!*[/red] Nekonekoneko3 had a pair, which beats our 1/2 hand! [blue]They took the entire pot of 200 points![/blue] 100 of those pot points came from them though, so their total profit is 100 points. *Close the round summary.* We'll play through one more round.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment639023b233b4200
Nekonyancer[red]*Round 2!*[/red] Looks like the [blue]*Ante*[/blue] has doubled to 20. That means we've already bet 20 points!2information_zone639023b233b4200information_zone 2 playertablecard_11941354 2
Nekonyancer[blue]We were dealt a 10 and an 8.[/blue] That's not very good... if you check the hand rank chart, you'll see that all we have is a "high sum" right now. Just like in Round 1, we must now select 1 card to reveal. *Reveal the 8!*1playertable_11941354639023e31528f10playertablecard_11941354 2
NekonyancerIt's [red]*nekonekoneko3's*[/red] turn to start the betting round. Let's see what they do...1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment639023f1a0b8f00
NekonyancerThey *checked!* That means they didn't bet anything. Our hand is definitely on the weak side, so I don't think we should raise. We should check too. *Click on "check" at the top!*1btnCallBet6390241e4913310btnCallBet 1
NekonyancerWe got our third card. Ouch, we still don't have anything but a High Sum, though it is very high for a High Sum. [red]Now we have another betting round.[/red] Let's see what nekonekoneko3 does...1card_11941354_263902426ba68800
Nekonyancer[red]They raised by 10 points![/red] 10 points isn't much, but our hand is so bad, I don't think we can win. To prevent us from losing any more points, I think we should fold! *Click on "Fold" at the top!*1btnFoldHand63902431e669610btnFoldHand 1
NekonyancerSince we folded, our opponent won again. At least they only won 20 points from us this time! The game will continue as you've seen for a predetermined number of rounds (6, by default). [green]After that, whoever has the most points wins![/green]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment63902441deaf900
NekonyancerJust a couple more things to mention. First of all, if two players tie for having the strongest hand, then those two will have a *rematch,* which is shorter than a normal round. [blue]Rematch steps:[/blue] *- Get 2 cards. Don't reveal a card.* *- Betting phase.* *- Reveal hands!* Also, there is no ante in rematches.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment63902441deaf900
NekonyancerA rematch can also be triggered if someone plays a [blue]*9/4 combo*[/blue] and no one has a hand strong enough to nullify it. In that case, all players who have not folded will participate in the rematch.3special_hand_063902441deaf900special_hand 7
Nekonyancer[blue]Just one last thing.[/blue] You can customize *many* different elements of this game! There are even some new mechanics you can throw in! I won't explain them here because they're all clearly labeled in the lobby. Feel free to peruse through them!4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment63902441deaf900
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Seotda!*[/blue] If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message! A big thank you goes out to *ufm* for bringing this game to BGA and helping with the tutorial! Have fun! :D5archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment63902441deaf900
