Tofu666*Welcome!* In 1703, Czar Peter the Great founded Saint Petersburg, a city which quickly became associated with the birth of the Russian Empire and Russia's entry into the modern age. It is still considered an important economic, scientific, cultural centre.1maintitlebar_content

Tofu666Players are competing to contribute the most to the development of Saint Petersburg by hiring a workforce, constructing buildings, and attracting aristocrats to the city.2maintitlebar_content

Tofu666All cards are designed in a similar style, so elements are in the same locations. All cards have a *cost*, located in the *upper left corner*. i.e. this card costs 3 rubles. At the *bottom* you will find the card's *income and/or special function*. i.e. this card gives an income of 3 rubles. ([green]Worker[/green] cards also have a certain type--this one is "woodworker". Tofu666These icons show which player goes first in a given *phase*. Your opponent has the first go in the [green]Worker[/green] and Trading phases.9token_wrap_p90774036

Tofu666On your turn, you want to buy this worker, after all, it is cheaper than the other two! (click the card to select it, then click *Buy* in the top banner)1card_2_0

Tofu666One worker left, and you definitely want to buy it. Workers are the main way you earn more rubles, so you can buy more cards! (click on the card, then *Buy* in the top banner)1card_0_0

Tofu666At the end of each *phase*, you earn the income for the cards of that colour. Your two workers just earned you six more rubles!1stp_playertable_87819002

Tofu666You go first in the [blue]Building[/blue] and [red]Aristocrat[/red] *phases*. Buildings usually earn you Victory Points as opposed to rubles. Let's buy the simplest of all buildings, a *Market*.2token_wrap_p87819002

Tofu666A Market costs 5 rubles and earns you 1 VP at the end of each [blue]Building[/blue] *phase*. (Click on the Market and Buy it!)3card_5_0

Tofu666Let's not spend all our money. *This is a common mistake of new players*. As we are only making 6 rubles a *round*, we need to save some to invest in hiring new workers!! (click *Pass*)1button_2

Tofu666We can quickly check how much each player earns in rubles (top row) and VP (bottom row). i.e. we earn 6 rubles and 0 VP in the [green]Worker[/green] phase, 0 rubles and 1 VP in the [blue]Building[/blue] phase, and nothing (yet) in the [red]Aristocrat[/red] phase. (there is NO INCOME EARNED in the Trading phase!!) It is a good idea to check your standing against other players often.2income_wrap_p87819002

Tofu666After players earn income, any cards left on the board slide to the right, and new ones for the next *phase* are added to the board to fill empty columns.3card_5_0

Tofu666This is a sweet card! (aren't you glad you saved your money?) Sure, a Judge is expensive (16) but will earn you 5 rubles and 2 VP at the end of each [red]Aristocrat[/red] *phase*. (click on the card, then *Buy*)4card_6_0

Tofu666There are no more nobles to buy, so let's click *Pass*. (*All players* must pass in order before we move to the next round--if your opponents take actions, you can still jump back in. i.e. passing *does not* exempt you from more actions! However, If you are certain you don't want to take an action regardless of what your opponents do, use the *Enable Auto Pass* button)1button_2

Tofu666The Trading deck is made of the other types of cards (worker/building/aristocrat). You can tell a trading card by the small square around the price. Buying them is a bit different--you need to *exchange/discard* a card already in your tableau of the same colour, and you pay the *difference* in price (minimum 1 ruble).1card_6_0

Tofu666Another action you can do is take a card into your hand--this is what your opponent did. You can hold up to 3 cards in your hand. This reserves them for you to play on a later turn. You can see each player's hand and which type of cards they hold here.1cardicon_p90774036_0

Tofu666Good work! We've finshed one *round*! As we said, there is no income earned in the Trading *phase*, but two things happen. FIRST, any cards left on the board shift to the right and down (If there are cards on the bottom row when a subsequent *round* ends, they are discarded).1card_5_1

Tofu666Nice! We just earned 9 rubles--it's not much but at least we are moving in the right direction. If we are smart with when we spend our money we can hire more workers each round and it will start to really pay off!)1rublecount_p87819002

Tofu666Not all buildings just earn VP. This one costs 2 but is worth 6 when you exchange it! 2card_4_1

Tofu666Here's another Market. *Any cards that weren't bought last round and ended up in the bottom row are now 1 ruble cheaper!* In addition, you get a *discount of 1 ruble for each card of the same name you already own*. We own one Market already, so we get a discount of 2 rubles total! Being savvy with your rubles will allow you to earn more for less, isn't that what we all want? (*Buy* the Market)1card_3_1
