Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed80bae004.56213417.jpg[/img] The animals of River Valley make the most gorgeous glass crafts in the land. Their secret: recycled river glass. Collect river glass and sort it by color so it can be remade in your glassworks! [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1maintitlebar_content000
Nekonyancer[blue]Your goal is to fill your glassworks (personal board) with the most colorful glass![/blue] Cleverly place glass pieces onto river tiles to gather glass from adjacent tiles. Add the glass you collect to your glassworks to fill out rows and columns for end-game points. [green]Highest score wins![/green]2maintitlebar_content000
Nekonyancer[blue]On your turn, you must perform one of two actions:[/blue] • Place glass in the river. • Take glass from the lake. We'll start with placing glass!3maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerWe started with 3 pieces of glass in our [red]*hand.*[/red] When we place a piece of glass on a river space, we can take all the pieces from an *adjacent* space and move them into our glassworks. [red]However, there are some restrictions![/red]1hand_selection_1194135465d2ea918b27f00hand_selection_11941354 1
NekonyancerGlass pieces come in *6* shapes, and each shape can only be put on a specific river space, as indicated by the *white silhouettes* in the corners of each space. For example, *triangular* pieces can only be put on [red]*this space*[/red] because it has white triangles in the corners. 2gem_tile_1765d2ea918b27f00river_tile_3 6
NekonyancerLet's try it! Select the [blue]*Pentagon*[/blue] piece. The corresponding river space should now be *outlined in black.* The space next to it should be lit up to show that we can take glass pieces from it.3gem_tile_1665d2ea918b27f00gem_tile_16 2
Nekonyancer*Select [red]this river space.[/red] Then click on [blue]"Confirm Selection"[/blue] at the top!*4river_tile_465d2ea918b27f10river_tile_4 6
Nekonyancer*Great!* Note that the pieces we picked up did *NOT* go into our hand. Instead, we have to place them into our *glassworks.*1gem_tile_765d2ea956dc1a00
NekonyancerWhen placing pieces in our glassworks, the shape no longer matters. [blue]Only the color does![/blue] When we place a piece of a color that does not exist in our glassworks yet, it will fill the first available empty column from left to right.2tile_space_3_3_1194135465d2ea956dc1a00
NekonyancerWhen we have multiple new colors, we can choose the order in which they go into our glassworks. *Click on the orange piece first, then the dark blue!* If your board looks like this, *click on [blue]"End Turn."[/blue]* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed80d61815.79532364.jpg[/img]3tile_space_0_2_1194135465d2ea956dc1a10
Nekonyancer*Great!* If we acquire more orange and blue pieces in the future, they will build up the existing orange and blue columns. If we get other colors, they will start new columns.1gem_tile_865d2ea995b6b900
Nekonyancer*Next, scroll back up and take a look at the river!* At the end of our turn, the [blue]*space we took pieces from*[/blue] was moved to the front of the river. Some random pieces were then placed on it, according to the number of stones on the *next* river space.2river_tile_465d2ea995b6b900river_tile_4 2
NekonyancerIn this case, the next river space has [red]*two rocks*[/red] on it, so 2 new glass pieces were placed on the moved space. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed81047752.76173393.jpg[/img] [blue]That was one complete turn! Now our opponent will go![/blue]3river_tile_065d2ea995b6b900
NekonyancerNext turn! We're going to place another piece in the river, but first I want to explain *why.* [green]At the end of the game, the two columns with the most pieces in our glassworks will score points.[/green]1tile_space_4_1_1194135465d2eab5f10fb00
NekonyancerFor example, if we found another three dark-blue pieces, bringing us up to [red]*this space,*[/red] we would score *8 points.* [green]But columns that are further to the right are far more valuable![/green]2tile_space_3_2_1194135465d2eab5f10fb00tile_space_3_1_11941354 6
NekonyancerBy the way, there are eight different glass colors and four different rarities, as you can see on the [red]left side of our board.[/red] White and Purple are two most [green]common[/green] colors. Yellow and Orange are the most [green]rare![/green]3gem_tile_765d2eab5f10fb00board_info_panel_1 6
NekonyancerWith columns and rarities in mind, let's take our next action. [blue]*Click here!*[/blue]4select_river65d2eab5f10fb10select_river 2
Nekonyancer*Select [blue]this piece.[/blue] Select [red]this space.[/red] Confirm your selection!*1gem_tile_1565d2eabaa744810river_tile_4 1 gem_tile_15 2
NekonyancerBoth Yellow and White are new colors for us, so they will both make new columns. Hmm... Which one do you think we should put into our glassworks first? [green][tip] Think about color rarity![/green]1gem_tile_2265d2eac6244f400
NekonyancerSince White is a *common* color, it will be easier to make a tall column of whites and score it. We'll want that column to be as far to the right as possible. [green]Therefore, we should put the rare yellow piece in first![/green] *Click on the Yellow piece, then the White. Then end your turn!*2gem_tile_2165d2eac6244f410
Nekonyancer[blue]Excellent job so far![/blue] In addition to scoring 2 columns, each player will score each *row* in their glassworks *up to the first gap.* The longer the row before the gap, the more points we'll get!1gem_tile_2165d2eadd56e2900
NekonyancerYou can see the exact numbers for row scoring along the bottom of our board. Do you see the "7" underneath this space? If the game somehow ended right now, we would score [green]7 points[/green] for this row of 4 pieces.2gem_tile_2165d2eadd56e2900gem_tile_21 1
NekonyancerNext, let's learn about the other possible action. *Click on [red]"Take glass from Lake!"[/red]*3select_lake65d2eadd56e2910select_lake 1
NekonyancerThe Lake always has *5* pieces in it. We can take exactly *4* of them - no more, no less. These pieces will go into our hand, not our glassworks. *Select everything except the light-blue oval. Then confirm your selection.*1lake_board65d2eae333ba010gem_tile_13 13
Nekonyancer*Great!* After we took 4 pieces, the lake was immediately refilled.1gem_tile_2965d2eb00426be00
NekonyancerWe now have 5 pieces in our hand, which is actually the *maximum.* If we go over that, we'll have to place our excess pieces in our *Overflow Area,* which is in the top-right corner of our board. At the end of the game, each piece in this area incurs a [red]3-point penalty![/red]2hand_selection_1194135465d2eb00426be00
NekonyancerPieces can also overflow if you don't have room for them in your glassworks. [blue]This can happen in 2 ways:[/blue] *1. Too many pieces of one color.* Each column only has 5 spaces. If we acquire a 6th piece of the same color, it will overflow! *2. Too many colors.* There are eight colors of glass in the game, but only seven columns in our glassworks. If we take the 8th color, it will overflow!3player_main_board_1194135465d2eb00426be00
Nekonyancer[blue]Let's take one more "Place glass" action.[/blue] *Click here!*1select_river65d2eb160b0ad10select_river 2
NekonyancerUp until now, we've only placed 1 piece at a time, but we can actually place [red]2 of the same shape[/red] if we like! When we do this, we can ignore the usual restrictions and place them on *any space we like!*1hand_selection_1194135465d2eb1f1906700
Nekonyancer*Select the [green]2 triangular pieces.[/green]* The entire river should be lit now. *Select [blue]this space[/blue]* to indicate that we'll place glass there. *Then select [red]this space[/red]* as the one we'll take glass from! *Finally, confirm your selection!*2hand_selection_1194135465d2eb1f1906710river_tile_1 2 river_tile_5 1 gem_tile_17 3 gem_tile_14 3
NekonyancerI'll just go ahead and place these for you...1gem_tile_965d2eb3f1cd5e00
Nekonyancer[blue]Okay, I think you've seen enough![/blue] When one player has *17 pieces* on their board (not including their Overflow Area), it will trigger [red]the end of the game![/red]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment65d2eb44eef5e00
NekonyancerAt that point, any players with less than 3 pieces in their hand will draw until they have 3. Everyone will then finish the round (so everyone has had the same number of turns), and then play one final round. [red]During these last rounds, players cannot take glass from the lake.[/red]2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment65d2eb44eef5e00
Nekonyancer[blue]Finally, everyone's glassworks are scored. Here's an example.[/blue] [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed81254b65.81570505.jpg[/img] This player has a row of 6 pieces, a row of 5, and a row of 2, scoring 16, 11, and 2 points respectively, for a total of [green]29 points for rows.[/green]5archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment65d2eb44eef5e00lake_board aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWQ4MTRhMGM5My4zNDE0MjM1Ni5qcGc=/923/90
Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed81710cc6.56755264.jpg[/img] This player's highest column is white, scoring 10 points. There's a tie for the player's second highest column, so the one furthest to the left - the purple column - will be scored for 16 points. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed81926063.50651472.jpg[/img] There are two pieces in the Overflow Area, incurring a [red]6-point penalty.[/red] [green]The player's total is 39 points![/green]6maintitlebar_content65d2eb44eef5e00lake_board aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWQ4MWI1MTU0Mi45NzU5MzczNi5qcGc=/923/90
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for River Valley Glassworks!*[/blue] If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message! A big thank you goes out to *pasko92* for bringing this game to BGA! Have fun! :D7archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment65d2eb44eef5e00
