Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed09833d26.01386655.jpg[/img] Alice's reflection in the looking glass suddenly caught her eye, and the two shared a concern: what if I'm actually the reflection? [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
NekonyancerIn *Reflections in the Looking Glass,* you and your opponent will take turns taking cards from the display. Each time a card is taken, the card in its *mirrored* position will be given to their opponent. When all the cards have been taken, points are counted up, and whoever has the largest *absolute score* - that is, the score furthest from 0 - wins the round!2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
Nekonyancer[red]Let's see how it works![/red] First, our opponent will take a card from the display...3cardplace_4_1_23000cardplace_4_1_23 1
NekonyancerAnd now the card in the [blue]*mirrored position*[/blue] will be given to us!1cardplace_4_0_236428f3a3b1b9100cardplace_4_0_23 2
NekonyancerCards we collect during the game are displayed here, in this big box. [red]Note that our opponent can see the cards we took, and we can see theirs![/red]2cardplace_2_0_06428f3a3b2ee000cardplace_3_0_0 1
NekonyancerWe also have a [blue]*hand of four cards.*[/blue] Our opponent can't see them, and we can't see [red]*theirs!*[/red]3cardplace_0_0_26428f3a3b2ee000hand_0 2 hand_1 1
NekonyancerIt's our turn next. We can take a card from either side of the display. [red]*Take the indicated card!*[/red]4cardplace_4_1_276428f3a3b2ee010cardplace_4_1_27 1
Nekonyancer*Good!* The game will continue in this way until all the cards have been taken. Next, let's go over [green]scoring.[/green] All your gameplay decisions should revolve around this.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6428f3b130d9f00
NekonyancerAt the end of the round, you'll score points depending on how many copies you have of each card. [green]*This chart*[/green] shows how many points you get for each stack of identical cards.2reference6428f3b130d9f00reference 3
NekonyancerEach card belongs to one of two factions: *Sun* and *Moon.* [red]*The Mad Hatter*[/red] is a *sun* card, and we only have one copy of him. According to the chart, that's worth +1 point! We have two copies of [blue]*The Mock Turtle,*[/blue] another sun card, which is worth -2 points!3cardplace_0_0_16428f3b130d9f00cardplace_0_0_1 1 cardplace_0_0_2 2 cardplace_2_0_0 2
Nekonyancer[green]Hmm, let's see what our score is so far...[/green] ~ 2 Turtles (-2) ~ 2 Caterpillars (-2) ~ 1 Hatter (+1) ~ 1 Dodo (-1) [blue]That's a total of -4![/blue]4cardplace_0_0_26428f3b130d9f00
NekonyancerRemember, we want a score that is *as far from 0 as possible,* and we already have a negative score, so let's try to get as many negative points as we can! To do so, we should gather *even* numbers of *Sun* characters and *odd* numbers of *Moon* characters! [green]Let's go through a couple more turns...[/green]5archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6428f3b130d9f00
NekonyancerOur opponent just gave us a [blue]2nd copy of The Dodo,[/blue] which means they're now worth *positive* points. That brings us closer to 0, which is bad.1cardplace_2_5_06428f3dee998600cardplace_2_5_0 2
NekonyancerTaking a third Dodo would fix that problem, but [red]*this one*[/red] is currently buried under other cards! Well, let's fix that! *Take the White Rabbit!*2cardplace_4_1_256428f3dee998610cardplace_4_1_18 1 cardplace_4_1_25 2
NekonyancerGreat! [blue]*Now take the Dodo!*[/blue]1cardplace_4_1_186428f3f9a236310cardplace_4_1_18 2
Nekonyancer*Great!* Let's reassess our position. Look at all the cards we have right now. [green]If the game ended right now, how many points would we score?[/green]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6428f3fd9864c00
NekonyancerDid you say *negative 6?* I hope so! [blue]Here's the breakdown:[/blue] ~ 3 Dodos (-3) ~ 2 Turtles (-2) ~ 2 Caterpillars (-2) ~ 1 Rabbit (-1) ~ 1 Walrus/Carpenter (+1) ~ 1 Hatter (+1)2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6428f3fd9864c00
Nekonyancer*Alright, I think you've seen enough!* When all the cards are gone, the round is over, and all the cards are scored. Whoever has the score furthest from 0 wins the round. Then a new round will start! [green]Whoever wins 3 rounds (or 2, for a short game) wins the game![/green]3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6428f3fd9864c00
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Reflections in the Looking Glass!*[/blue] If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message! A big thank you goes out to *RyTracer* for bringing this game to BGA! Have fun! :D4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6428f3fd9864c00
