Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed71c40b11.01392307.jpg[/img] You and your opponent are rival cat clans, trying to catch as much prey as possible! Watch out for dogs! [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer[/green]1maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerIn *Pocket Cats,* the 2 players will take turns unflipping tiles on the board. Depending on what each tile turns out to be, they'll then have to *swap* it with another tile. When all the tiles have been unflipped, the game ends, and each player will score points depending on the positions of their cat tiles and prey tiles. [green]Whoever has the most points wins![/green]2maintitlebar_content000
Nekonyancer[blue]The board consists of...[/blue] - 5 of our cats. - 5 of our opponent's cats. - 5 dogs. - 10 prey tiles. [blue]... for a total of *25* tiles.[/blue]3pc_tile_back_12000
NekonyancerBGA automatically flips the *middle tile* at the beginning of every game. Looks like it's a [red]*pigeon,*[/red] which is a kind of prey. As you can probably guess, the starred number indicates its [green]victory point value.[/green]4pc_tile_back_12000pc_tile_back_12 1
NekonyancerWe're the first player, so let's go ahead and flip a tile! *Click on this tile to flip it!* [red]Ooh... looks like the tiles don't cooperate in Tutorial Mode.[/red] Just *Continue* instead.5pc_tile_front_16000pc_tile_front_16 16
Nekonyancer[red]It turned out to be one of our own cats![/red] The number in the corner indicates its *power.* Mrrrow!1pc_tile_back_1665b64efbb443e00
Nekonyancer[blue]Next, we have to swap the tile with another one.[/blue] When we reveal a *cat,* we must swap with a tile that is one or two spaces away, *orthogonally* (left/right/up/down).2pc_tile_back_1665b64efbb443e00
NekonyancerIn other words, we can swap with any of [red]*these tiles.*[/red] [blue]Hmm... so where should we put it?[/blue]3pc_tile_front_2165b64efbb443e00pc_tile_front_6 13 pc_tile_front_11 13 pc_tile_front_15 13 pc_tile_front_17 13 pc_tile_front_18 13 pc_tile_front_21 13
Nekonyancer[green]Well, we want to put our cat in a position to hunt prey.[/green] At the end of the game, for each prey tile, each player will add up the numbers on all their cats that are *orthogonally adjacent* (up/down/left/right) to it. Whoever has the most power will win the prey! [blue]I'll swap with the tile just under it. That pigeon won't even see it coming![/blue]4pc_tile_front_1765b64efbb443e00pc_tile_front_17 16
NekonyancerNote that the tile we swapped with stayed [blue]*face-down.*[/blue] Similarly, if we swap with a face-up tile, it will stay face-up. [green]Alright, now it's our opponent's turn to flip and swap a tile![/green]1pc_tile_front_1765b64f02bc64200pc_tile_front_17 2
Nekonyancer[red]Our opponent found one of their own cats. It looks like it wants to hunt that pigeon too![/red] Right now, we're *tied* at 1 power each. If nothing changes, *neither* of us will get the pigeon! [green]These cats really need to learn to get along...[/green]1pc_tile_back_1665b64f0a17fc900
Nekonyancer[blue]Shoot![/blue] They swapped their cat with the pigeon, carrying it out of our reach while staying in range of it themselves! [red]That was a smart play![/red]1pc_tile_back_1665b64f1b8c79700
NekonyancerIt's our turn again. [blue]I'll flip the tile down here for us...[/blue]2pc_tile_front_1865b64f1b8c79700pc_tile_front_18 16
Nekonyancer[red]Yikes! It's a dog![/red] Each dog tile has arrows on it. At the end of the game, if those arrows are pointing to any cats, those cats will be flipped *face-down* again, rendering them harmless!1pc_tile_back_1865b64f273b58600
NekonyancerWhen you flip over a dog, you can swap it with any tile in the *same row or column.* That means we can swap with any of [red]*these tiles.*[/red] It's kind of like swapping a cat, but with a bit more range.2pc_tile_front_2365b64f273b58600pc_tile_front_3 13 pc_tile_front_8 13 pc_tile_front_13 13 pc_tile_front_15 13 pc_tile_front_19 13 pc_tile_front_23 13 pc_tile_front_17 13
NekonyancerWe want it to point to our opponent's cats and not our own, so [red]*this space*[/red] is the best option!3pc_tile_front_1365b64f273b58600pc_tile_front_13 13
Nekonyancer[red]Our opponent revealed a dog too![/red] I wonder where they'll put it?1pc_tile_back_765b64f3a7cf8600
Nekonyancer[red]Oof![/red] They sent it over here to attack our cat!1pc_tile_back_765b64f404825800
NekonyancerNext, I'll flip *this* tile...2pc_tile_front_2365b64f404825800pc_tile_front_23 16
Nekonyancer*Ooh, a juicy mouse!* It's worth [green]5 points![/green] When you reveal prey, you can swap with any *orthogonally* or *diagonally adjacent* tile. In other words, we can swap with any of [red]*these tiles.*[/red]1pc_tile_front_465b64f4a92f0401pc_tile_front_19 13 pc_tile_front_24 13 pc_tile_back_16 13 pc_tile_front_13 13 pc_tile_back_7 13
NekonyancerHmm... [blue]Which tile do you think we should *swap* with?[/blue]2pc_tile_front_365b64f4a92f0401
Nekonyancer[blue]We should swap it with the dog above it![/blue] That will bring it in range of our cat while carrying the dog away!3pc_tile_front_365b64f4a92f0401pc_tile_back_7 15
Nekonyancer[red]Our opponent just found another of their cats.[/red] As you can see, some cats are much *stronger* than others!1pc_tile_back_1365b64f72d2f2200
Nekonyancer[blue]Okay, I think you've seen enough![/blue] The game will continue until *every card is revealed.* At that point, the dogs will attack, flipping over any cats they're pointing to. After that, BGA will see who scores each prey tile, which depends on the power of the adjacent cats. [green]Whoever has the most points wins![/green]1maintitlebar_content65b64f8a2892700
Nekonyancer[blue]There's just a few last things to mention.[/blue] *Pigeons* and *Flies* are a little different from mice. There are exactly 2 pigeons and 2 flies. If you manage to score *both* pigeons or *both* flies, then instead of scoring each one individually, you [green]multiply their point values together.[/green]2maintitlebar_content65b64f8a2892700
NekonyancerFor example, if you catch both flies... [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed71e29d62.56141920.jpg[/img][img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed720ffec0.47408442.jpg[/img] ... [green]you'll score *12* points instead of *7!*[/green]3maintitlebar_content65b64f8a2892700
NekonyancerFinally, when you have more experience, I suggest toggling off *"Very First Game"* in the lobby options. If you switch to one of the other modes, it will enable unique clan attributes! 4pc_cardclan_10065b64f8a2892700
NekonyancerEach clan has 2 unique effects - a *Captain effect* for their Captain, and a *Troop Effect* for their whole clan. [blue]Here's an example:[/blue] [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed722bf023.80270686.jpg[/img]5maintitlebar_content65b64f8a2892700
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Pocket Cats!*[/blue] If you have any questions or comments about this tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message! A big thank you goes out to *Moof* for bringing this game to BGA! Have fun! :D6archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment65b64f8a2892700
