Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ede07c4808.61570223.jpg[/img] It was a beautiful day in Hawthorn Heath. People were dancing, reading, playing. Suddenly the weather changed. No one was ready… Except for you, a clever merchant. Sell umbrellas when it rains, ice cream when it’s hot, tea and coffee when it’s cold, kites when it's windy, and masks when it's hazy. [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerIn Park Life, players will play cards from their hands in a series of mini-rounds called *Tricks,* making this a *Trick-taking game.* But since we are merchants, we'll call them *Sales* instead. 💰2maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerThe winner of each Sale will keep the card that they played. Other cards are discarded. All cards are worth points at the end of the game. [green]After 3 rounds, whoever has the most points wins![/green] 3maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerBGA already dealt cards for Round 1. *Scroll down until you find our hand.* As you can see, cards come in *5 suits* (windy, rainy, foggy, snowy, sunny) and are numbered from *1 to 7.* There are also 3 set collection cards per suit and 4 wild cards, making a total of *54 cards.*4player_name_92143487000
NekonyancerThe number of cards dealt to each player depends on the number of players in the game. *2 players:* 12 cards each. *3p:* 10 cards. *4p:* 8 cards. [green]This is a 2-player game, so each player was dealt 12 cards.[/green]5myhand_wrap000
NekonyancerBGA randomly selected us as the first player. Let's get started! On our turn, all we have to do is select a card from our hand and play it! *Click on the Windy 4 to play it!*6myhand_item_7010myhand_item_7 16
NekonyancerGood! That's it for our turn. Unlike most trick-taking games, players do *not* have to follow suit. Any card can be played at any time! [blue]Let's see what our opponent plays...[/blue]1card_766d111bc55a1500
NekonyancerThey played the [blue]*Rainy 6!*[/blue] Now that each player has played a card, BGA will determine the winner of the Sale. The winner is [blue]whoever played the lowest card that matches the first card's weather.[/blue] In this case, we played the only card that matches its own weather type, so we win the Sale! 1card_1866d111c506bc700card_18 7
Nekonyancer[blue]Here's a more fun way to think of it.[/blue] The first card determines the current *weather.* Parkgoers will buy the cheapest item that matches the weather. [red]*Our card*[/red] made the weather windy, so no one wants our opponent's umbrellas! We have the cheapest (and only) kites around, so we win! 2card_766d111c506bc700card_7 6
NekonyancerAfter a winner is determined, their card is moved to their [green]*score pile.*[/green] All other cards in the Sale are discarded. In addition, the winner must [red]discard 1/2/3 cards[/red] from their hand, depending on the card they scored. 3captured_9214348766d111c506bc700captured_wrap_92143487 8
NekonyancerIn this case, we have to discard *1* card, as indicated [red]*here:*[/red] [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ede09bab52.22743024.jpg[/img] 4card_766d111c506bc700
NekonyancerLet's discard the Windy 7. *Click here. Then click on [red]"Discard selected cards"[/red] at the top!*5myhand_item_866d111c506bc710btnDiscardSelect 1 myhand_item_8 16
NekonyancerThe Windy 7 went into our [red]*Discard Pile.*[/red] We can always check the contents of our own pile, but no one else's!1mydiscard_item_866d111de336ee00mydiscard 6
NekonyancerEach scored card is worth points equal to the number on the card. BGA will keep a running total for us [green]*here.*[/green]2captured_92143487_item_766d111de336ee00captured_score_label_92143487 3
Nekonyancer[blue]Let's move on to the next sale![/blue] Since we won the previous sale, we must start the next one.3maintitlebar_content66d111de336ee00
NekonyancerLet's play this [red]*Windy Set Collection card.*[/red] The value of the card is equal to the number of Windy cards we've won so far. We have *1* windy card in our score pile, so BGA helpfully put a big *1* on the card. [green][tip] It's a good idea to play these cards early, while their value is low and likely to win Sales.[/green] *Play the card!*4myhand_item_4666d111de336ee10myhand_item_46 6
NekonyancerShoot. Our opponent played a [blue]*Wild card.*[/blue] Wild cards have a value of *0* and count as every type of weather. They won't earn any points for this, but they stopped us from scoring the set collection card.1card_466d111e83af3d00card_4 7
NekonyancerSince our opponent won that Sale, they have to start the next one!1maintitlebar_content66d111f1d5c2c00
NekonyancerThey played another [blue]*Wild Card!*[/blue] It will be tough to beat, but it's possible! You see, whenever cards are tied for the lowest value of the first card's weather type, whichever card was played *later* will win the sale!1card_266d112488a73200card_2 7
NekonyancerWild cards count as *every weather type,* so they can be beaten by any card with a value of *0.* Luckily, we have one in our hand!2card_266d112488a73200
NekonyancerThis is another [red]*Set Collection card.*[/red] Its value is equal to the number of *cloudy* cards the player has won. We don't have any yet, so its value is 0! *Play it!*3myhand_item_2566d112488a73210myhand_item_25 6
NekonyancerGreat! There's a tie, but our card was played later, so we win! We have to discard 1 card. *Discard the [red]Sunny 7.[/red]*1btnDiscardSelect66d112516917310card_25 7 myhand_item_37 6
NekonyancerCheck it out! The set collection card's value was *0* when we played it, but now it increased to *1!* That's because, when counting the number of cloudy cards we've won, [red]it counts itself![/red]1captured_92143487_item_2566d1125916d9b00captured_92143487_item_25 6
NekonyancerAgain, since we won the previous sale, we must start the next one. Let's play another [blue]*set collection card!*[/blue] This one is a little different - its value is equal to the number of cloudy cards our *opponent* has won. Right now, they've only won 1 card - a Wild - which counts as Cloudy. *Play the card!*2myhand_item_3466d1125916d9b10myhand_item_34 7
NekonyancerOur opponent's card was not the same type of the weather, so we win again! This time, we have to discard *2* cards. *Discard [blue]Rainy 5[/blue] and [blue]Snowy 4.[/blue]*1card_2066d11270ce33d10myhand_item_22 7 myhand_item_51 7
NekonyancerOkay, I think you got the hang of it! [blue]I'll fast-forward through a few sales...[/blue]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment66d1127fde9c100
NekonyancerAt this point, our opponent has [blue]*0 cards,*[/blue] but we still have [blue]*one left*[/blue] in our hand! In this situation, our last card will go uncontested. We'll win the Sale by default! We won't have any cards left after that, so we won't have to discard after the last sale. If we had another card to discard, we would!1hand_counter_1194135466d112baed9d400hand_counter_wrap_92143487 2 hand_counter_wrap_11941354 2
NekonyancerHypothetically, if we had 5 cards left and our opponent had none, we would not simply drop our whole hand into our score pile. We would continue to play individual cards in Sales. We would win each Sale uncontested, but we would still have to *discard* some cards from our hand after each one.2hand_counter_1194135466d112baed9d400hand_counter_wrap_92143487 2 hand_counter_wrap_11941354 2
NekonyancerOkay, everyone is out of cards, so the round is over! All the cards in [green]*score piles*[/green] will stay where they are. However, all the [red]*discarded cards*[/red] will be collected and shuffled back into the deck! Then BGA will deal a new hand of cards to each player.3maintitlebar_content66d112baefc0000captured_wrap_92143487 8 captured_wrap_11941354 8 mydiscard 1
Nekonyancer[blue]Now we're ready for Round 2![/blue] It will play out exactly the same way Round 1 did. After 3 rounds, BGA will count up the points! [green]Whoever has the most points wins![/green] *Tiebreaker:* Whoever won the last Sale of the game!4maintitlebar_content66d112baf1f9e00
NekonyancerThe rules are slightly different in *2-player Co-op mode.* After the first card of a Sale is played, the other player must play a card that matches the first card's weather, if possible. Players can sometimes be forced to play Wild cards this way.5maintitlebar_content66d112baf1f9e00
NekonyancerAt the end of the game, the lower of the two players' scores is the team's final score! *45+: Not bad!* *55+: Good job.* *65+: Wow!* There's also a *Solo* mode! It's the same as *2-player Co-op mode,* but one player will handle two separate hands of cards, each with its own score pile.6maintitlebar_content66d112baf1f9e00
Nekonyancer*That's not all!* There are *Deluxe* versions, *Expansions,* and other rules that you can toggle in the lobby options. You can combine them however you like! Each card has a detailed tooltip. If you encounter unfamiliar cards, just *hover* over them with your mouse to see how they work!7maintitlebar_content66d112baf1f9e00
NekonyancerThis tutorial showcases the *People Edition* of Park Life. If you want something a little simpler, you can toggle the *Hedgehog Edition* in the lobby options! In the Hedgehog edition, cards are numbered from 1 to 10. There are no set collection cards. Each player gets a special +5 point caterpillar card at the beginning of the game. All the cards are collected after each round, and each round has a winner. After a player wins a round, their caterpillar card is flipped to the +2 point side. [green]The first player to win two rounds wins the game![/green]8maintitlebar_content66d112baf1f9e00
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Park Life!*[/blue] If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message! Big thank yous go out to *Dylan Coyle* for designing the game, *Charming Games Collective* for publishing, and *ufm* for bringing it to BGA! Have fun! :D9maintitlebar_content66d112baf1f9e00
