NekonyancerWelcome to *Nylon-ppong,* a traditional Korean rummy game for 2-6 players! [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
NekonyancerIn this game, players will take turns drawing and discarding cards, trying to either make *pairs* (allowing them to decrease their hand size) or *special combinations.* At the end of each round, each player will gain negative points for each card in their hand, unless they have a combo. [green]After 3 rounds, whoever has the most points is the winner![/green]2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
NekonyancerThese are *Hanafuda/Hwatu* cards. There are a lot of beautiful cultural details in these cards relating to months and plants... [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img691d4b8ccd8067.91178428.jpg[/img]3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
Nekonyancer... but for this game, you only need to learn [blue]these three facts:[/blue] - Each card has a number ranging from *1-12.* - There are *4 cards* with each number. - *48* cards total!4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
NekonyancerAs you can see, each player starts the game with a [blue]*hand of five cards.*[/blue]5myhand_wrap000myhand 7
NekonyancerAt the beginning of the game, we need to confirm that we're ready. This is to give everyone a chance to click on [green]"toggle ppong queue."[/green] We'll learn about ppong a little later! *Click on [red]"I'm ready!"[/red]*1btnEndHandCheck63ec60aae29e210btnEndHandCheck 6
Nekonyancer*Okay, the game has started!* [blue]On your turn, you must either:[/blue] *Draw a card* - OR - *Call "ppong."* [red]We can't call ppong right now - you'll see why soon.[/red] *Draw a card!*1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment63ec60b7c212510btnDrawCard 16
Nekonyancer[blue]Wow, we already have two pairs![/blue] Next, to end our turn, we must *discard* a single card! We should hang onto our pairs, though. You'll see why soon. *Select the 12 card. Then click on "Discard selected" at the top!*1myhand_wrap63ec60c0c6ae610btnDiscardCard 18 myhand_item_2 2 myhand_item_30 2 myhand_item_39 2 myhand_item_48 17 myhand_item_37 2
Nekonyancer[red]Next turn![/red] Look at the top! There's a [red]"Call ppong"[/red] button! You will only get this option if you have a [blue]*pair of cards*[/blue] that match the card on [green]*top of the discard pile!*[/green] *Click on "Call ppong!"*1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment63ec60d43143010card_18 3 myhand_item_2 2 myhand_item_39 2
Nekonyancer*Good!* Now here's the really interesting part: you can call ppong [blue]even when it's not your turn![/blue] If you do, it will immediately *become* your turn, which may completely *skip* some players!1myhand_item_163ec60da3728500
NekonyancerIf you click on the [green]*green button*[/green] and select a pair in your hand, BGA will automatically call ppong for you whenever it's possible to do so! How convenient! Now, where were we? Right, we have to discard a card to finish our turn. *Discard the [red]9![/red]*2btnChangePpongQueue63ec60da3728510myhand_item_1 1
NekonyancerWe have another pair, but we can't call ppong again because the top card of the discard pile doesn't match our pair. If we managed to call ppong again, we would completely exhaust our hand. This is called *"going out."* !!! When a player goes out, the round ends, and the player who discarded a card right before them gets [red]30 penalty points![/red] !!!1card_1563ec60f17d9b700card_15 1
NekonyancerBut there's another option open to us this turn: *Stopping.* [blue]You only get this option if:[/blue] - You have *two cards* left in your hand. - The *sum* of your two cards is *10 or less.* - At least half of the players in the game (rounded down) have called ppong. [green]That means *1/1/2/2/3* players in a *2/3/4/5/6* player game![/green]2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment63ec60f17d9b700
NekonyancerAs you've probably guessed, calling "Stop" will immediately end the round. Then, everyone scores [red]penalty points[/red] equal to the sum of the cards in their hand. [green]Looks like we'll lose 10 points if we call stop.[/green] That's not so bad.4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment63ec60f17d9b700
Nekonyancer*But be careful!* !!! If the cards in another player's hand have an *equal or lower sum* than ours, they will *undercut* us. We would then get [red]30 penalty points![/red] !!!5archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment63ec60f17d9b700
NekonyancerIn this case, our opponent still has 5 cards, so we have good odds. *Click on "Stop" at the top!*6archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment63ec60f17d9b710btnCallStop 16
NekonyancerOkay, since we called "stop," the round is over! You should now be able to see a score summary. We lost [red]10 points[/red] because of the 2 fives in our hand, but we came out far ahead of our opponent!1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment63ec60f80ea9f00
Nekonyancer*Close the score summary.* To start the next round, we need to signal that we're ready! *Click on "I'm ready!"*3btnEndHandCheck63ec60f80ea9f10btnEndHandCheck 6
NekonyancerAgain, we can't call ppong with these [blue]*11s*[/blue] because the [green]*top card of the discard pile*[/green] does not match them. Anyway, we're going to try for something different this round: a *combination.* [green][tip] All combinations involve 6 cards, so if we call ppong, we can't get one![/green]1myhand_item_663ec61346d4fc00card_20 3 myhand_item_6 2 myhand_item_29 2
NekonyancerYou can see the list of available combinations by clicking on the "Combination list" button! When you're done, *draw a card.*2btnPlayerAid63ec61346d4fc10btnPlayerAid 16
NekonyancerWow, we already have two pairs! A combination is definitely doable! We just need one more pair! *Discard the 3!*1myhand_item_2563ec613cbe62b10myhand_item_25 2
NekonyancerAll we need is a 2 to get our *combination!* [blue]I feel lucky. Don't you?[/blue] *Draw a card!*3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment63ec614cca7d110btnDrawCard 16
Nekonyancer[red]Shoot. A nine.[/red] *Discard it!*1myhand_item_163ec6150aecdb10myhand_item_1 1
Nekonyancer*Draw again!*1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment63ec615b4924a10
Nekonyancer[green]*We got it!! 3 pairs!!*[/green] Instead of discarding a card, *click on "Complete Three pairs" at the top!*1myhand_wrap63ec615e972a810btnCallEnd 16 myhand_wrap 8
NekonyancerAs you can see, we gained *0* points this round, which is great! [green][tip] The more difficult combinations will even give you *positive* points![/green] Hmm... something strange is going on with our opponent's score though. [red]Shouldn't they have -43 points this round?[/red]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment63ec6164175ba00
NekonyancerWell, there are special rules for *triplets.* They are completely *ignored,* so our opponent only lost points for the 1 and the 12 in their hand. Triplets can also help you *"go out"* early. If all you have in your hand is a triplet, it means your hand is completely empty!2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment63ec6164175ba00
Nekonyancer*Okay!* The game will continue as you've seen for one more round. [green]After that, whoever has the most points wins![/green]3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment63ec6164175ba00
NekonyancerOne last thing I have to mention! Many aspects of this game are *customizable* in the lobby options, [blue]including:[/blue] - The number of rounds. - The hand point limit under which you can call stop. - Penalty amounts. - Optional combinations. [green]and more![/green]4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment63ec6164175ba00
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Nylon-ppong!*[/blue] If you have any questions or comments about this tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message! A big thank you goes out to *ufm* for bringing this game to BGA! Have fun! :D5archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment63ec6164175ba00
