Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ede7eeb154.36804914.jpg[/img] You and your opponent are trying to collect the most influential characters and structures to become the most prestigious lord in feudal Japan! [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerIn *Naishi,* each player starts with a collection of 10 cards. They will take turns replacing cards to maximize synergy and score the most points when the game ends. In addition, they will use Imperial Emissaries to rearrange their cards, remove cards from the supply, and sometimes even steal cards from their opponent! [green]When the game ends, whoever has the most prestigious set of cards wins![/green]2maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerOur collection of 10 cards is separated into two groups of 5: - our [red]*Line,*[/red] which our opponent can see. - our [blue]*Hand,*[/blue] which our opponent cannot.3card_6000card_16 1 card_5 1 card_6 1 card_1 1 card_2 1 card_39 2 card_29 2 hand_11941354_2 2 hand_11941354_3 2 hand_11941354_4 2
NekonyancerEach player's *Line* always starts with 5 Mountain cards. They're bad. Each player's *Hand* always starts with 3 Mountain cards and [red]*2 normal cards.*[/red]4card_6000card_39 6 card_29 6
NekonyancerAt the beginning of the game, we need to give one of our two normal cards to our opponent. Our opponent will do the same. You can [green]hover[/green] over each card with your mouse to see how it works.5card_29000
Nekonyancer[blue]Hmm. Which card should we give to our opponent?[/blue] Well, both of these cards will end up in hands, but the [green]*Banner*[/green] is only worth points if it's in a Line. Let's get rid of it! *Click on the [green]Banner![/green]*1card_3966de9f544969b10card_39 8
Nekonyancer*Good!* The card we kept (Advisor) went into [blue]*this deck,*[/blue] together with the card our opponent gave us and 3 Mountains. Next, BGA will shuffle the deck to form our starting hand!1hidden_tempdeck_11941354_466de9f69d2cd400hidden_tempdeck_11941354_4 2
NekonyancerWow! Our opponent gave us a [red]*Horseman,*[/red] which is only worth points in a Hand. If they gave this up, their other card must be pretty good!2card_4466de9f69d6b5800card_44 6
NekonyancerNow that each player's starting hand is ready, we can start the game! [blue]On our turn, we must perform *one* of the following actions:[/blue] - *Develop* our territory. - *Impose* an imperial decree. - *Recall* our emissaries. - *Declare* the end of the game. Most of our time will be spent on the *Develop* action, so let's go over that first!3maintitlebar_content66de9f69d6b5800
NekonyancerTo *Develop* our territory, we must select a card in our Line or Hand. That card will then be replaced with a card from the [blue]*River*[/blue] - a central supply of cards between the two players.4card_4866de9f69d6b5800card_22 7 card_36 7 card_48 7 card_20 7 card_25 7
NekonyancerHowever, we can't choose just any card in the River! When we replace a card, it will always be replaced by whichever card is in the *same position!*5card_2566de9f69d6b5800card_22 10 card_36 10 card_48 10 card_20 10 card_25 10
NekonyancerFor example, [red]*these cards*[/red] are in *Position 3.* Thus, they can only be replaced by [blue]*this card,*[/blue] which is also in Position 3.6card_166de9f69d6b5800card_48 7 card_6 6 card_9 6
NekonyancerThere are two [green]*Rice Fields*[/green] in the River right now, and they're in adjacent positions. Rice Fields that are adjacent to Rice Fields are worth a lot of points, so let's take one! *Click on [red]this card![/red] Then [blue]Confirm![/blue]*7maintitlebar_content66de9f69d6b5810card_20 8 card_25 8 card_2 6
NekonyancerGood! Our [red]*Mountain*[/red] was discarded, and the [green]*Rice Field*[/green] in the same position took its place. When it did, it revealed a [blue]*new card*[/blue] in the River.1card_266de9ffb3a7a300card_49 7 card_25 8 card_2 6
NekonyancerWhenever we take a *Develop* action, we may also send an *Emissary* to the [green]*Imperial Court.*[/green] This can be done before or after the Develop action. I'll explain Emissaries later though, so *click on [blue]"End turn"[/blue] at the top!*2sideBoard66de9ffb3a7a310btnEndTurn 2 sideBoard 8
Nekonyancer[red]Okay, that's it for our turn![/red] Now our opponent will go. Hopefully they'll leave the other [green]*Rice Field*[/green] for us...1card_2066dea007ebf1d00card_20 8
Nekonyancer[red]Darn, they took the other Rice Field![/red] Okay, new plan. We have an *Advisor* in our hand. It's in a good position, but it will be worth more points if we can get a *Naishi* next to it. [tip] Naishi were influential female members of the Imperial Court who prepared rituals and ceremonies.1card_2966dea057c924100
NekonyancerThere's a [green]*Naishi*[/green] in the River right now! Don't let her slip through our fingers! *Click on [red]this card![/red] Then [blue]Confirm![/blue]*2player_name_1194135466dea057c924110card_36 8 card_15 6
Nekonyancer[green]Good, we have a Naishi![/green] Unfortunately, she's not in the right position. We need her in the *third* position! This is where *Emissaries* come in!1card_3666dea1304e72400
NekonyancerEach player started the game with [red]*2 Emissaries.*[/red] If we place one on one of [blue]*these action spaces,*[/blue] we can swap... - any two cards in our *Line.* - any two cards in our *Hand.* - any two cards in the *River.* - a Line card and Hand card of the *same position.*2swappower366dea1304e72400token_3 1 token_4 1 swappower1 2 swappower2 2 swappower3 2 token_1 1 token_2 1
NekonyancerLet's use one to swap our [green]*Naishi*[/green] into the 3rd position, where we currently have... Hm. A [red]*Mountain.*[/red] It will certainly be good to reposition our Naishi, but the Mountain will be just as bad in the 2nd position as it is in the 3rd.3card_966dea1304e72400card_36 8 card_9 6
NekonyancerOh! There's another [blue]*Advisor*[/blue] in the River! If we can get him, we can use our Emissary more efficiently. We'll have to wait until next turn though. *Click on [blue]"End turn"[/blue] at the top.*4card_4866dea1304e72410btnEndTurn 2 card_48 7
NekonyancerWhew! Our opponent didn't take the Advisor. *Click on [red]this card![/red][blue] Confirm![/blue]*1player_name_1194135466dea5349f7da10card_9 6
NekonyancerOkay, now let's use an Emissary to swap them! *Click on [red]this Action Space[/red] to place an Emissary there!*1swappower166dea53b8d3da10swappower1 1
Nekonyancer*Next, select the [green]Naishi[/green] and the [blue]Advisor.[/blue]* *Then click on [blue]"Confirm Swap"[/blue] at the top!*1card_3666dea540bc22610card_36 8 card_48 7
NekonyancerExcellent! Our Advisor-Naishi-Advisor combo is perfectly positioned. [green]In total, they'll be worth 24 points![/green] Next, pay attention to what our opponent does...1card_3666dea545180a800
NekonyancerThey took a [red]*Torii!*[/red] If they can accumulate 3 of them, they'll be worth 30 points. There's another [red]*Torii*[/red] in the River! We can't let our opponent get it!1card_1766dea574f247300hidden_hand_92143487_0_0 6 card_17 6
NekonyancerWe could replace [red]*this Mountain*[/red] with the Torii, but a single Torii is worth [red]-5 points![/red] Hmm. Let's use our other Emissary.2card_2166dea574f247300card_6 6
NekonyancerYou see [green]*these two spaces*[/green] on the other side of the Court? If we place an Emissary there, we can *discard* two cards from the River. We can prevent our opponent from taking the Torii without getting stuck with it ourselves!3discardpower166dea574f247300discardpower1 3 discardpower2 3
Nekonyancer*Click [red]here[/red] to place an Emissary!*5discardpower166dea574f247310discardpower1 1
Nekonyancer*Next, select [red]these two cards.[/red] Click on [blue]"Confirm Discard"[/blue] at the top!*1card_1766dea5cb5924f10card_50 6 card_17 6
NekonyancerUh oh. There was another Torii under the one we discarded. You know what? This is okay. We have a back-up plan. You'll see later.1card_2366dea5d83c82a00
NekonyancerThe Emissary actions that we've covered so far (swapping and discarding) are always tied to Develop actions. Since we just used an Emissary, we must follow through and Develop! Hmm. This [blue]*Fort*[/blue] is in a good position. Again, you can hover over it to see how it works. *Replace [red]this mountain[/red] with it!*2player_name_1194135466dea5d83c82a10card_38 7 card_16 6
NekonyancerOur opponent took the [red]*Torii.*[/red] We saw them take one earlier too. It is possible that they started the game with a third one. To carry out our backup plan, we'll need an *Emissary*... but we don't have any left!1card_2366dea63c0942a00card_23 6 material_6 6
NekonyancerInstead of Developing, let's use the *Recall* action to get our Emissaries back. *Click on [blue]"Retrieve Tokens!"[/blue] Then [blue]Confirm![/blue]*2btnRetrieveTokens66dea63c0942a10btnRetrieveTokens 2
NekonyancerNext turn! Now that we have our emissaries back, we can *Impose* an imperial decree. This is more serious than the Emissary actions you've seen so far. It will take up our entire turn.2card_2366dea6e20b50900
NekonyancerTo Impose a decree, we must place an Emissary on [red]*this space.*[/red] [blue]Then we can swap...[/blue] - a card in our *Hand* with a card in our opponent's *Hand.* OR - a card in our *Line* with a card in our opponent's *Line.* In either case, the swapped cards must be in the *same position.*3decreepower66dea6e20b50900decreepower 1
NekonyancerIt's an extremely powerful action, but beware: [red]the Emissary will never return.[/red] It will stay in the Court forever, and we will be stuck with just one Emissary for the rest of the game. Since the Emissary will stay here, the action space will never open up again. That means that the Impose action can only be used once per game, and only by one player.4decreepower66dea6e20b50900decreepower 1
NekonyancerThis action should not be taken lightly, but I'm really worried about those Torii. Let's do it. *Click [red]here[/red] to place an Emissary.*5decreepower66dea6e20b50910decreepower 1
NekonyancerNext, we have to select one of our cards to swap with our opponent. BGA will automatically select our opponent's corresponding card. *Select [red]this Mountain.[/red] Then click on [blue]"Confirm Decree"[/blue] at the top.*1card_666dea6ec3dd0010card_6 6
NekonyancerOur opponent, recognizing that their Torii synergy was ruined, decided to discard another Torii to pick up a well-positioned Fort.1card_4566dea70d9d55500
NekonyancerOne of the stacks in the River is now empty, which opens up the last kind of action: *Declare the end of the game.* *Declare* will use up our entire turn. Our opponent will get one more turn, and then the game will end. We shouldn't do this unless we're confident that we'll score more points than our opponent!1center066dea7132005b00center0 13
NekonyancerHmm. Our mountains and our Torii are worth negative points, but our Advisor-Naishi-Advisor combo is very strong. Our Horseman and Fort are helping too. I think we can win. *Click on [blue]"Declare end!"[/blue] Then [blue]Confirm![/blue]*2btnDeclareEnd66dea7132005b10btnDeclareEnd 2
NekonyancerGood! By the way, if neither player is confident enough to *Declare* the end, the game will continue until... [red]- Two River stacks are empty[/red] *AND* [red]- Both players have had the same number of turns.[/red]1maintitlebar_last_turn66dea720d7e7400
NekonyancerOur opponent will take their final turn now. Then both players' hands will be revealed, and BGA will count up the points. [blue]Keep your fingers crossed...[/blue]2player_name_1194135466dea720d7e7400
NekonyancerWow! It turned out to be very close, but we won!1player_name_1194135466dea744bcabb00
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Naishi!*[/blue] If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message! Big thank yous go out to *Alex Fortineau* and *Mathieu Bieri* for designing this game, *Merle éditions* for publishing, and *BenjL* for bringing it to BGA!
