Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed88691c11.14852683.jpg[/img] You are an adventurer, delving into a dungeon room after room and floor after floor, in order to find the *Og's Blood:* a fabled and mysterious artifact! [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1overall_player_board_11941354000
NekonyancerThe first thing we have to do in this game is select our *character.* [blue]Each character has...[/blue] - different starting *attributes* (top-right corner) - 2 unique *skills* (bottom half)2player_board_inner_0000ff000
NekonyancerFor example, the *Rogue* can use Backstab and Evasion. She starts with 10 HP, 5 Gold, and 3 Food. She is the game's titular character, so we'll play as her for this tutorial! *Select the Rogue. Then click on [blue]"Confirm"[/blue] at the top!*3player_board_inner_0000ff010mnr-card1001 16
Nekonyancer[green]Now we're ready to start![/green] BGA laid out a 3x3 grid of cards for us, representing the first *area.* We will always start an area in the [blue]*top-left corner.*[/blue] To clear this area and progress to the next one, we must reach the red card in the [red]*bottom-right corner.*[/red]1player_board_inner_0000ff65fe6bc8cbab900mnr-slot1-card9 7 mnr-slot9-card0 6
NekonyancerTo reach the bottom-right corner, we'll have to make our way through several encounters, rolling dice to resolve each one. BGA already flipped over the top-left card to start our first encounter. We found some [blue]*treasure!!*[/blue]2player_name_1194135465fe6bc8cbab900mnr-slot1-card9 7
Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed8882ab85.63557922.jpg[/img] The first line of iconography on the card shows that we'll earn at least [green]1 gold.[/green] If we had encountered a dungeon card with a [red]*red seal*[/red] in the corner before finding the treasure... [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed889aac85.71540373.jpg[/img] We would earn [green]2 gold[/green] instead!3player_name_1194135465fe6bc8cbab900
Nekonyancer[green]Gold isn't the only thing we can get from this card![/green] There's a small star icon in the *top-right corner* of the card: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed88b9f7b9.34267157.jpg[/img] It indicates that we need to perform a *skill check* to see if we find anything else!4mnr-diceDish11941354-card-dieSlot6-die-inner-side1-inner65fe6bc8cbab900
Nekonyancer[blue]Performing a skill check involves rolling...[/blue] *• All our Character dice* (white). The number of dice is equal to our character's *level.* We are currently level 1, so we only have 1 Character die right now. *• 1 Dungeon die* (black). [tip] If we are [blue]cursed[/blue] or [green]poisoned,[/green] we'll have to roll additional dice associated with those ailments!5mnr-diceDish11941354-card65fe6bc8cbab900
NekonyancerThe white Character dice determine if we *pass* the Skill check. We need to roll at least 1 *star* (5 or 6) to pass! As you can see, BGA went ahead and rolled the dice for us. [blue]We rolled a 5, so we passed the skill check![/blue]6mnr-diceDish11941354-card-dieSlot1-die-inner-side5-inner65fe6bc8cbab900mnr-diceDish11941354-card-dieSlot1-die-inner-side5-inner 2
NekonyancerSince we passed, we can take an additional reward, which is determined by the [red]*Dungeon die.*[/red] We rolled a 1, so this is our reward: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed88dc0765.69778672.jpg[/img] *1 Armor* or *2 Experience!*7mnr-diceDish11941354-card-dieSlot6-die-inner-side1-inner65fe6bc8cbab900mnr-diceDish11941354-card-dieSlot6-die-inner-side1-inner 1
Nekonyancer[red]*Armor*[/red] will decrease the damage we take in combat. As a Rogue, we started with *0/4.* [green]*Experience*[/green] will help us level up. If we level up, we'll unlock our second Character die! We need *6* experience to reach *Level 2.*8mnr-player11941354-resources-armor-icon65fe6bc8cbab900mnr-player11941354-level 3 mnr-player11941354-resources-armor 1
NekonyancerHmm.. let's take [red]*Armor*[/red] as our reward. [red]*Click here!*[/red]9mnr-buttonChoice065fe6bc8cbab910mnr-buttonChoice0 1
Nekonyancer*Great!* Our [red]*armor*[/red] was increased by 1. That was the end of the encounter. Whenever we complete an encounter, BGA reveals the [green]*adjacent room cards.*[/green] We have to pick one of them to move to!1mnr-player11941354-resources-armor-icon65fe6cb6dc9a300mnr-player11941354-resources-armor 1
NekonyancerBoth the *Trap* card and the *Corridor* card involve a Skill Check. As you can see, the *Trap* card has both penalties and bonuses, depending on whether we pass or fail the skill check. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed89006582.31506010.jpg[/img] At level 1, we have a higher chance of failing than succeeding, so let's steer clear.2player_name_1194135465fe6cb6dc9a300
NekonyancerUnlike the *Trap,* The *Corridor* only has one set of effects - some good, some bad. If we pass the Skill Check, we can add or subtract 1 from the Dungeon die.3mnr-map-cell4-slot65fe6cb6dc9a300
NekonyancerIf we don't like either of our options, we can use [blue]*Evasion,*[/blue] one of our two Character skills, to pass through a room without triggering anything. [red]We can only use one skill per Area[/red] (3x3 grid of cards).4mnr-buttonExpSkill65fe6cb6dc9a300mnr-buttonExpSkill 2
NekonyancerHmm... The *Corridor* doesn't look too bad. Let's save our Skill for later. *Select the Corridor. Then click on [blue]"Move"[/blue] at the top!*5mnr-map-cell4-slot65fe6cb6dc9a310
NekonyancerHere's what we rolled: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed89181009.80595387.jpg[/img] Since we didn't roll a star, we [red]failed[/red] the Skill check, leaving our fate entirely up to the Dungeon die. Luckily, it was a *4.* According to the chart at the bottom of the card, that means we found [green]1 Food![/green]1player_name_1194135465fe6ccf6a13100
NekonyancerOur character will consume [green]*1 Food*[/green] each time we complete an *area* (3x3 grid of cards). If we don't have any food at that time, we'll lose [red]*3 HP*[/red] instead!2mnr-player11941354-resources-food-icon65fe6ccf6a13100mnr-player11941354-resources-hp 1 mnr-player11941354-resources-food 3
NekonyancerThat's it for the Corridor! Our choices for the next location are *Hunter* and *Monster.* We can't up to the Treasure card again because we must [red]always move toward the exit in the bottom-right.[/red] [green]Let's look a closer look at the Hunter.[/green]3player_name_1194135465fe6ccf6a13100
NekonyancerIf we visit the *Hunter,* we can *buy* food, cures for status ailments, HP, or potions. We can also *sell* armor or potions. As a Rogue, we started with [red]*6 Gold,*[/red] so visiting the Hunter isn't a bad idea...4mnr-player11941354-resources-gold-max65fe6ccf6a13100mnr-player11941354-resources-gold 1
Nekonyancer... but I bet you want to get to the [red]slashy-slashy[/red] part! Am I right? *Move to the Monster location!* (You may need to scroll down to see it.)5player_name_1194135465fe6ccf6a13110
NekonyancerThere are actually *four* monsters listed along the bottom of the Monster card, but don't worry, we only have to fight *one* of them, depending on which *floor* of the dungeon we're on.1mnr-slot7-card3-name065fe6cff360da00
NekonyancerThis is the [red]*Dungeon Map.*[/red] Click on the black circle in the top-right corner if you can't see the whole thing.2mnr-dungeon-dungeon-title65fe6cff360da00mnr-dungeon-dungeon 6
NekonyancerThis dungeon is divided into 4 *floors,* and each floor is divided into 2 or 3 *areas.* As you can see, we are currently in the *first area* of [blue]*Floor 1: The Sewers.*[/blue] Gross.3mnr-dungeon-dungeon-area265fe6cff360da00mnr-dungeon-dungeon-floor1 2 mnr-dungeon-token 12
NekonyancerSince we're on Floor 1, our opponent is Monster #1 on the card: The [blue]*Mutant Fly.*[/blue] BGA has helpfully displayed the Fly's stats at the top of the screen.4mnr-combat-dmg65fe6cff360da00page-title 2
NekonyancerDuring ̶s̶l̶a̶s̶h̶y̶-̶s̶l̶a̶s̶h̶y̶ ̶t̶i̶m̶e̶ *Combat,* our character and the monster will take turns hitting each other, but we always go first! The first step of our attack is rolling the dice. *Click on [red]"Roll!"[/red] at the top!*5mnr-buttonRollDice65fe6cff360da10mnr-buttonRollDice 1
Nekonyancer[red]*Here's what we rolled!*[/red] Soon, we'll deal damage to the monster equal to the *sum of all our Character dice* (white). But before the damage resolves, there are three things we can do to augment it: *- Reroll critical hits.* *- Use a feat.* *- Use a potion.*1mnr-diceDish1194135465fe6d049cac500mnr-diceDish11941354 1
Nekonyancer*Critical Hits*---Both 5s and 6s have star icons, but only 6s count as "crits." When we roll a crit, we can *reroll* the die to deal extra damage equal to the new roll. However, if we roll an *X,* we will lose the crit's original 6 damage. [green]For example, if we crit and reroll a 3, that die will deal 9 damage (6 + 3).[/green] [red]If we crit and reroll an "X," the die will deal 0![/red]2mnr-buttonCrit65fe6d049cac500
Nekonyancer*Feats*---Feats allow us to reroll a Character die and use the new result at the cost of [red]*2 HP*[/red] or [green]*1 Experience.*[/green] This can be done once per Character die per turn.3mnr-buttonFeat65fe6d049cac500mnr-player11941354-level 3 mnr-player11941354-resources-hp 1
Nekonyancer*Potions*---Potions can be consumed to trigger instant powerful effects in battle. We have room for *two* potions in our inventory.4mnr-player11941354-potions65fe6d049cac500mnr-player11941354-potions 5
NekonyancerWe didn't crit, and we don't have any Potions, so our only option is to use a Feat. We don't need to, though, because our initial roll (5 damage) is enough to instantly kill the Fly, which has 4 HP. It won't even get a chance to hurt us! *Click on [red]"Attack!"[/red]*5mnr-buttonAttack65fe6d049cac510mnr-buttonAttack 1
Nekonyancer*Excellent!* The monster didn't even get a chance to attack us! [blue]If it did, the effect would be determined by the Dungeon die we rolled:[/blue] *1:* Miss! *2-5:* It hits us, dealing damage according to its stats. This damage is reduced by 1 for each point of armor we have. *6:* It hits us, dealing damage and ignoring armor.1player_name_1194135465fe6d0e4e2a800
Nekonyancer*Onward!* If you can't see the bottom row of cards, scroll down a little. We're on a corner now, so we only have one movement option. *Move to the Shrine!*2player_name_1194135465fe6d0e4e2a810
NekonyancerWhen we visit a Shrine, we have to roll the Dungeon die. Rolling *1-3* will yield a *negative* effect. *4-6,* a *positive* one. Before we roll, we have the option of paying 1 coin to increase our die's value by 1. Let's do it! *Click on [blue]"Make an offering"[/blue] at the top!*1player_name_1194135465fe6d13b9c2710mnr-buttonShrine 2
Nekonyancer*Whew!* We rolled a 3, but since we paid a coin, it was increased to 4, triggering a positive effect. [red]We gained 2 HP![/red] There's only one card left in this area: [red]the exit![/red]1player_name_1194135465fe6d175d66d00
NekonyancerThere are three icons along the bottom of the exit card: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed89388b48.15849803.jpg[/img] *Icon 1:* We will consume [green]1 food.[/green] If we don't have any, we'll lose [red]3 HP[/red] instead. *Icon 2:* If this is the LAST area on a floor, we'll fight a boss! *Icon 3:* We will delve deeper into the dungeon, entering a new area! *Move to the exit!*2player_name_1194135465fe6d175d66d10
Nekonyancer*Okay, we cleared the first area!* BGA shuffled all the dungeon cards back into the deck and dealt 8 cards to construct the next area. [green][tip] There's a total of 20 different room cards in the game, so we will probably see some of the same cards again![/green]1player_name_1194135465fe6d210702400
NekonyancerIt would take too long to explain every single Room card. I think I'll leave you to discover them on your own. After all, discovering new things is half of the fun of adventuring, right? [blue]I'll fast-forward to the first boss fight![/blue]2player_name_1194135465fe6d210702400
Nekonyancer[red]Okay, the Floor 1 boss is just ahead![/red] *Go get him!*1player_name_1194135465fe6d818efd010
NekonyancerWe haven't used a *character ability* yet. Let's use [red]*Backstab*[/red] on the boss! It will double the damage of one of our dice, but we need to commit to its use before we roll. *Click on [red]"Rogue: Backstab!"[/red]*1mnr-buttonSkill65fe6d869162110mnr-buttonSkill 1
NekonyancerOur [blue]*Character card*[/blue] turned grey to show that we used a Skill. It will be refreshed as soon as we enter a new Area. [red]*Roll the dice!*[/red]1mnr-buttonRollDice65fe6d901a78d10mnr-buttonRollDice 1 overall_player_board_11941354 2
Nekonyancer[red]*Oh no! We missed!*[/red] Our Backstab was completely wasted! But wait! We can use a feat to reroll the die! *1.* Click on [blue]*"Use a Feat."*[/blue] *2.* Select the [red]*Character die.*[/red] *3.* Click on *"Pay 2❤️!"*1mnr-diceDish1194135465fe6d934755410mnr-diceDish11941354-dieSlot1-die-inner-side1-inner 1
Nekonyancer[green]Now that's more like it![/green] We got a 6 - a *critical hit!* With our Backstab, this will deal *12 damage!* Since it's a *crit,* we can *reroll* the die to add on even more damage, but if we roll another X, we won't deal any damage at all.1mnr-diceDish11941354-dieSlot1-die-inner-side6-inner65fe6d9e889a400
NekonyancerThis boss only has *12 HP* though, so there's no reason to risk it! We're already dealing enough damage to take him down in one hit! *Click on [red]"Attack!"[/red]*2mnr-diceDish11941354-dieSlot1-die-inner-side6-inner65fe6d9e889a410mnr-buttonAttack 1
Nekonyancer*Hah!* Again, we defeated our enemy without even a scratch! Whenever we defeat a boss, we have to roll the Dungeon die and claim a reward from the [blue]Rewards card.[/blue] You should be able to see it on the left side of your screen. We rolled a [red]*4,*[/red] so we can choose between a *Healing Potion* and *+1 armor.*1mnr-diceDish1194135465fe6db17d49700mnr-sidebarCard1000 7 mnr-diceDish11941354-dieSlot6-die-inner-side4-inner 1
NekonyancerWe're pretty healthy, so let's take armor to keep it that way! [green]*Click here!*[/green]2mnr-buttonChoice165fe6db17d49710mnr-buttonChoice1 3
NekonyancerIf you check the [red]*Dungeon Map,*[/red] you'll see that we reached [blue]*Floor 2.*[/blue] The monsters will be harder from now on, but the rewards will be greater as well!1mnr-dungeon-dungeon-title65fe6dc30159800mnr-dungeon-dungeon-title 1 mnr-dungeon-dungeon-floor2 2
Nekonyancer[green]Okay, I think you've seen enough![/green] If we reach the end of Floor 4, we'll fight the final boss: *Og's Remains!* If we defeat them, we'll find Og's Blood and [green]win the game![/green] If we don't, well, we'll be dead.2player_name_1194135465fe6dc30159800
NekonyancerThere's a lot of *iconography* you haven't seen yet, but *Page 21* of the Rulebook has a list of every icon in the game. I suggest having it handy when you play your first few games! [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed89575363.54292084.jpg[/img]3player_name_1194135465fe6dc30159800
NekonyancerAfter you get your feet wet, you might consider increasing the *difficulty.* The harder the difficulty, the weaker we'll be at the beginning! *Hard:* -1 Food, -1 ❤️. *Harder:* -1 Food, -2 ❤️. *Roguelike:* -1 Food, -2 ❤️, -3 Gold.4player_name_1194135465fe6dc30159800
Nekonyancer[blue]You can also try playing cooperatively with a friend![/blue] In a *2-player* game, players will simultaneously move into new rooms, but each player must independently resolve each encounter. They can move into the same room or different rooms. If both players are in the same room, they can freely exchange gold, potions and items. If they fight a monster together, the monster will have *twice* as much HP.5player_name_1194135465fe6dc30159800
NekonyancerIf you want to increase your options in combat, try the *Combat Stances* variant, which lets you choose a stance before each combat roll. *Defensive:* You can no longer miss or crit enemies. "X" on the Character die counts as 1. Your armor is temporarily increased by 1. *Balanced:* normal. *Aggressive:* "2" counts as a miss. "5" counts as a crit.6player_name_1194135465fe6dc30159800
NekonyancerFinally, you might consider toggling the *Expansion* set, which introduces new character classes and Room cards!7player_name_1194135465fe6dc30159800
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Mini Rogue!*[/blue] If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message! A big thank you goes out to *Kayvon* and *Mogri* for bringing this game to BGA! Have fun! :D8player_name_1194135465fe6dc30159800
