GoldenSky8N*Welcome to [red]Minhwatu[/red], a Korean card-matching game!*
Minhwatu uses a card deck known as Hwatu, or Hanafuda in Japan. You can change the design of the cards to the Japanese version by going into the Options tab during a game.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
GoldenSky8NWhen playing Minhwatu, the goal is to get points by matching cards you have in your hand to cards in the center. To see what cards match, *hover over a card (in your hand or in the center)* or click on *"Month List" at the top*.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000btnMonthList 1
GoldenSky8NIn addition to the twelve months, all of which are represented by a different flower, there are *four different kinds of cards, and they all score differently*.3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
GoldenSky8NLet's take our first turn! :D
Play the *[blue]highlighted[/blue]* card in your hand by clicking on it. It will automatically capture the *[green]green[/green]* card in the center.5card_23010card_23 3 myhand_item_29 2
GoldenSky8NAfter you play a card, whether it matches one in the center or not, *another is drawn from the deck*. If *it matches another in the center, you capture those *as well, following the same rules as when you capture cards by playing a card in your hand.
[red]This[/red] card was the one we drew, and it matched the [green]green[/green] one, so we captured both.1chaff_90135263_item_1762b732c025ca300ribbon_90135263_item_39 3 chaff_90135263_item_17 1
GoldenSky8N[tip] Look at this section to see which cards you and your opponent have captured.2playertable_9013526362b732c025ca300
GoldenSky8NWait a minute though......[blue]*this*[/blue] card was also in the center. Shouldn't I have captured it along with the two that ended up in my area?3card_3662b732c025ca300card_36 2
GoldenSky8NIf there are two matching cards in the center and you play a third, you *only capture one*. If one card is clearly weaker than the other, the system will automatically pick the better card.
However, if one of the options is a yaku card and the other is a bright or animal card, *you also have to select the card you want to capture*.4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment62b732c025ca300
GoldenSky8NIf there are three matching cards in the center and you play the fourth, you *capture all four*.5archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment62b732c025ca300
GoldenSky8NYou can see your points by looking right here. Currently we have 35 points. Scroll down to see the cards you and your opponent have captured...can you figure out where those points came from?
[tip] *Hover over cards to see their point value!*6icon_point_9013526362b732c025ca300player_score_90135263 1 icon_point_90135263 1
GoldenSky8NWe got 20 points from the [red]Bright[/red] card, 10 points from the [blue]animal[/blue] card, and 5 points from the [green]ribbon card[/green]. Speaking of the ribbon card, did you notice anything about it?7playertable_9013526362b732c025ca300

It says it's part of Grass Ribbons. Grass Ribbons is a *yaku*. Yaku are sets of cards and completing one will *give you a set amount of points per opponent*, while simultaneously *subtracting the same amount of points from each of your opponents*.
Click on *[red]"Yaku List"*[/red] at the top to see the different sets you can make.8archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment62b732c025ca300btnYakuList 1
GoldenSky8NThere are two variant rules that can be added while opening a table: Five Birds and Four Paulownias. These are additional Yaku. When enabled, you can see the required cards and the point values in the Yaku List.9archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment62b732c025ca300variant_wrap 1
GoldenSky8NLet's watch a few turns so you can see how the game works.10archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment62b732c025ca300
GoldenSky8NIt's our turn. Check the Yaku List...are there any yaku we can complete this turn?1btnYakuList62b7334761da300
GoldenSky8NIf we play the [blue]*Paulownia Bright[/blue]* card, we can capture the *[green]Paulownia[/green]* that's already in the center and complete the Four Paulownias yaku. Click the [blue]*blue*[/blue] card to do it!2myhand_item_762b7334761da310card_5 3 myhand_item_7 2
GoldenSky8NThe score before was 50-70, with our opponent in the lead. Now, it's 90-50: we *got 40 points* (20 from the Bright card and 20 from the yaku completion), while our opponent *lost 20 points* due to us completing the Four Paulownias!1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment62b7334f1579c00
GoldenSky8NLet's watch a few more turns, until the end of the round.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment62b7334f1579c00
GoldenSky8NThe round ends when all players have played their last card.1popin_tableWindow_contents62b73383f23f300
GoldenSky8NAt the end of the round, this box shows up, giving a summary of the scoring from that round. The "Card score" row shows what each player scored based on their cards, "Yaku score" shows how scores were affected by yaku, and the "Round Score" row shows total scores for the round (cards+yaku). "Total score" shows the scores from all rounds.
Whoever has the *higher round score starts the next round*.2popin_tableWindow_close62b73383f23f300
GoldenSky8NThe number of rounds can be set when opening a table. You can choose 4, 6, or 8 rounds.7archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment62b73383f23f300
GoldenSky8NThat's everything you need to know to play *[red]Minhwatu[/red]*! Have fun! :D8archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment62b73383f23f300
