Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed7160f611.79986441.jpg[/img] The Mandala: the symbol of an ancient and sacred ritual. Colored sand is laid to create a symbolic map of the world, before the pattern is ceremonially destroyed and the sand cast into the river—an ever repeating cycle of life, death, and rebirth. [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerYou and your opponent will take turns playing colored sand cards from your hands into two Mandalas. When a Mandala has all *six colors* of sand in it, it is *completed,* and the players can claim cards from it to add to their collections. At the end of the game, [green]whoever has the most points wins![/green]2maintitlebar_content000
Nekonyancer[green]On our turn, we must perform one of the following actions:[/green] - Place 1 card on a Mandala's [red]*Mountain*[/red] and draw up to 3 new cards. - Place any number of cards of the same color in a Mandala's [blue]*Field,*[/blue] strengthening our control over the Mandala. - Discard any number of cards of the same color from our hand and draw an equal number of cards to replace them.4maintitlebar_content000mdl_mountain_1_stock 1 mdl_field_1_11941354_stock 2 mdl_mountain_2_stock 1 mdl_field_2_11941354_stock 2
NekonyancerWe'll start by placing cards in a [blue]*Field.*[/blue] Again, we can use *any number* of cards, as long as they're all the *same color.* However, each Mandala can only have a particular color in *one* of its three areas. This is called the [blue]Rule of Color.[/blue]5mdl_player_hand_item_14000
NekonyancerFor example, we can't place [green]*this yellow card*[/green] in [blue]*this field*[/blue] because that color is already present in the Mandala's [red]*Mountain.*[/red]6mdl_player_hand_item_14000mdl_mountain_1_stock 1 mdl_field_1_11941354_stock 2 mdl_player_hand_item_14 3
NekonyancerLet's try it! *Select [green]these two cards.[/green] Place them in [blue]this field.[/blue]*7mdl_player_hand_item_11010mdl_field_2_11941354_stock 2 mdl_player_hand_item_11 3 mdl_player_hand_item_62 3
Nekonyancer*Great!* By the way, there's a [red]*Player Aid*[/red] over here that illustrates our three possible actions. The Field action is in the middle. [blue]Next, our opponent will take their turn...[/blue]1mdl_field_2_11941354_stock65b5ab06290d100mdl_help_image 1
Nekonyancer[blue]Next turn![/blue] This time, let's place a card on a [red]*Mountain.*[/red] Doing so will allow us to draw *3 cards!* Like the Field action, we must follow the [blue]Rule of Color[/blue] (each Mandala can have each color in just one area). Unlike the Field action, we can only place *one* card.1mdl_mountain_2_stock65b5ab55b6e6700mdl_mountain_2_stock 1
NekonyancerLet's try it! *Select [green]this card.[/green] Place it on [red]this mountain.[/red]*2mdl_player_hand_item_2065b5ab55b6e6710mdl_mountain_2_stock 1 mdl_player_hand_item_20 3
Nekonyancer[blue]Excellent job so far![/blue] We immediately drew 3 cards, bringing us back up to *6 cards.* If you forget how the Mountain action works, it's the left-most illustration on the [red]*Player Aid.*[/red]1mdl_player_hand_item_7665b5ab7bb51b800mdl_help_image 1
NekonyancerBy the way, our [red]maximum hand size[/red] is *8 cards.* We cannot draw cards if we are already at 8. We also have a [red]minimum hand size[/red] of *1 card.* In other words, we cannot take an action that would leave us with 0 cards in hand!2mdl_player_hand_item_7665b5ab7bb51b800
NekonyancerOur opponent placed a card in [blue]*their own field.*[/blue] It works the same way ours does, but players can't interact with the other player's fields.1mdl_field_2_92143487_item_365b5abbf2a66f00mdl_field_2_92143487_wrapper 2
NekonyancerThis Mandala now consists of five different colors! If we add a card of the sixth color - whether to the Mountain or our Field - the entire Mandala will be *complete,* the players will [green]claim cards[/green] from the Mountain, and then it will be destroyed.2mdl_mountain_2_stock65b5abbf2a66f00
NekonyancerLet's see now... do we have a card of the 6th type in our hand? *We sure do! Add [green]it[/green] to our [blue]field![/blue]*3mdl_player_hand_item_1465b5abbf2a66f10mdl_field_2_11941354_stock 2 mdl_player_hand_item_14 3
Nekonyancer*Great!* Now that the Mandala is complete, players will take turns claiming cards from the Mountain, starting with the player with more cards in their field. If there's a tie, the player that did *not* play the last card chooses first. [green]In this case, there are more cards in our field than our opponent's field, so we'll choose first![/green]1mdl_mountain_2_item_1865b5abe4f3f1a00
NekonyancerIf we claim a card color that is not yet present in our [blue]*River,*[/blue] we must place one of the cards in the left-most River slot. All other cards of that color will be placed in our [red]*Cup.*[/red] [green][tip] We started the game with 2 random cards in our Cup. You can hover over it any time to see what's in it![/green]2mdl_river_1_1194135465b5abe4f3f1a00mdl_river_1_11941354 2 mdl_river_2_11941354 2 mdl_river_3_11941354 2 mdl_river_4_11941354 2 mdl_river_5_11941354 2 mdl_river_6_11941354 2 mdl_card_63 1
NekonyancerLet's start by claiming the Orange cards. [red]*Click on one of them![/red] Then click on [blue]Claim[/blue] at the top!*3mdl_mountain_2_item_10065b5abe4f3f1a10mdl_mountain_2_item_50 1 mdl_mountain_2_item_100 1
Nekonyancer*Excellent!* One of the orange cards went into our River, and the other went into our Cup. [blue]Now our opponent will claim a card...[/blue]1mdl_card_5065b5abeaedd1500
NekonyancerThey claimed the *black* card, which leaves the [green]green[/green] one for us. Since [green]Green[/green] is not present in our River yet, to our River it goes!1mdl_card_1865b5abf61722700
Nekonyancer[green]The Mandala has been completely destroyed, and the cycle of life begins anew...[/green]2mdl_mountain_2_wrapper65b5abf618d0c00
Nekonyancer[blue]Now that all the Mountain cards have been claimed, BGA will *reset* the Mandala by...[/blue] - Removing all the cards from both fields. - Drawing two new cards for the Mountain.3mdl_mountain_2_wrapper65b5abf6175cb00
NekonyancerThere's one last action I haven't shown you yet: *Discard* any number of cards to *draw* the same number of cards from the deck. The cards we discard must be the *same color.*1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment65b5ac118e5e300
NekonyancerLet's try it! *Select [green]the four black cards[/green] in our hand. Then click on [blue]Discard[/blue] at the top!*2mdl_player_hand_item_8165b5ac118e5e310mdl_player_hand_item_76 3 mdl_player_hand_item_81 3 mdl_player_hand_item_78 3 mdl_player_hand_item_42 3
Nekonyancer[blue]You're doing great![/blue] If you forget how discarding works, it's the right-most illustration in the [red]*Player Aid.*[/red] [blue]There's just one last thing to show you. I'll fast-forward a few turns...[/blue]1mdl_help_icon65b5ac2e3dad200mdl_help_image 1
Nekonyancer[red]The left Mandala is now complete![/red] This time, our opponent has *3* cards in their field, and we have *0.* That means they'll take cards from the mountain first.1mdl_mountain_1_stock65b5ac9e30ac600
NekonyancerUnfortunately, since we have *0* cards in our field, we're not allowed to keep any of the cards we claim from the mountain! [red]They'll be discarded instead![/red] *Claim the Purple card!*1mdl_mountain_1_item_5665b5aca47d93a10mdl_mountain_1_item_56 1
Nekonyancer*Now claim the [red]black[/red] card!*1mdl_mountain_1_item_5865b5acb79d95a10mdl_mountain_1_item_58 1
NekonyancerJust like before, BGA cleared the Mandala's fields and added two new cards to the Mountain. [blue]Okay, I think you've seen enough! The game will continue until one of the following occurs...[/blue]1mdl_mountain_1_wrapper65b5acc3cd5e800
Nekonyancer*1. The [blue]deck[/blue] runs out of cards.* If this happens, the [green]*discard pile*[/green] will be shuffled to make a new deck. The game will continue until the next Mandala is completed and end with its destruction.2mdl_card_deck65b5acc3cd5e800mdl_card_deck 2 mdl_card_105 3
Nekonyancer*2. One player completes their [blue]River.[/blue]* This can only happen in the middle of a Mandala's destruction. The game will end when the destruction is complete.3mdl_card_6065b5acc3cd5e800mdl_river_6_92143487 2 mdl_river_5_92143487 2 mdl_card_60 2 mdl_card_103 2 mdl_card_31 2 mdl_card_18 2
NekonyancerWhen the game is over, BGA will score all the cards in each player's [red]*Cup.*[/red] [blue]The number of points per card is determined by that color's position in the river.[/blue] For example, we have Orange in position 1 and Green in position 2, so orange cards in our Cup are worth 1 point each, and green cards are 2 points each.4mdl_card_10065b5acc3cd5e800mdl_card_50 12 mdl_card_100 1
NekonyancerHere's a more complete scoring example from the rulebook! [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed717ff1a0.86264515.jpg[/img]6maintitlebar_content65b5acc3cd5e800mdl_field_2_92143487_wrapper aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWQ3MWE3NTRkOC45NzkzNjU4OC5qcGc=/246/29
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Mandala!*[/blue] If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message! A big thank you goes out to *SIr Heo* for bringing this game to BGA! Have fun! :D7archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment65b5acc3cd5e800
