Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edabcf8872.10618139.jpg[/img] Since time immemorial, the oasis of Khiva has welcomed weary caravans as they journeyed across the Gobi desert, laden with treasures of the East. Use your business insight to attract the richest caravans and become the Merchant Prince! [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1kv_header_salt_icon000
NekonyancerIn *Khiva,* players will simultaneously play cards to move caravans toward them. Depending on where the caravans stop, players can acquire gems, carpets, bags of salt, and teapots. When one of the [red]*token banks*[/red] is exhausted, the game ends, and [green]whoever has the most points wins![/green]2kv_header_salt_nb000kv_header_tea_nb 1 kv_header_carpet_nb 1 kv_header_salt_nb 1
NekonyancerEach player started with [red]*8 cards*[/red] in their hand [green](5 cards in games with 3+ players).[/green] These cards come in 5 colors - matching the colors of the 5 caravans on the board - and are numbered from 1 to 5 for a total of *20 cards.* The [blue]*extra cards*[/blue] have been discarded and revealed. Expert players can make good use of this information!3kv_card_back_44000kv_target_0 1 kv_target_6 1 kv_discard 2
NekonyancerOn our turn, we must select 2 cards to play and 2 cards to pass to our opponent. [green]In games with 3+ players,[/green] each player will only select *1* to play and *1* to pass.4kv_target_3000
NekonyancerLet's get started! The first two cards we select will be played. The next two will be passed. Select [blue]*Blue 2,[/blue] [green]Green 2,[/green] [red]Red 1,*[/red] and *Black 1,* in that exact order. Then click on [red]*"Confirm"*[/red] at the top!5kv_header_salt_icon010kv_target_2 17 kv_target_3 18 kv_target_5 19 kv_target_7 20
Nekonyancer*Okay!* The first two cards we selected (the ones to be played) are now displayed on our [red]*personal board.*[/red] If you scroll down a little, you can see the cards our opponent selected too! We gave the Red 1 and Black 1 to our opponent, and received [blue]*these two cards*[/blue] in return.1kv_card_back_28663f20f53ec4e00kv_card_back_27 2 kv_card_back_39 2 kv_panel_2 1
NekonyancerNext, the cards everyone played will resolve in the order shown on the board, starting with *White* cards and proceeding clockwise from there. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edac0782c8.15986437.jpg[/img] Each card will move the corresponding caravan a number of spaces equal to the number on the card toward whoever played the card.2kv_card_back_47663f20f53ec4e00
NekonyancerThe edges of the board have been labeled with the players' names to show where they are sitting. Our opponent is sitting to the right of the board, and they played a White 1, so the *White* caravan will now move *1 space* to the *right!*3kv_card_back_31663f20f53ec4e00
NekonyancerThe white caravan stopped on a space marked by a red gem. [red]That means our opponent can gain 1 gem![/red]5kv_arrow_1663f20f53f6c700
NekonyancerThe next caravan is blue. We played a [blue]Blue 2,[/blue] so the [blue]*Blue caravan*[/blue] will move *2 spaces* in our direction (left)!6kv_panel_2663f20f53fc5800
NekonyancerThe caravan stopped at a space marked by a *carpet.* That means we can take 1 random [red]*carpet tile*[/red] from the supply!7kv_arrow_2663f20f540c2500kv_header_carpet_icon 1
NekonyancerEach Carpet Tile has a *victory point value* from 3-5 and a *color* that corresponds to one of the caravans. Right now, the tile is *face up.* Face up tokens are not worth anything at the end of the game. To flip it face down, we will need to get the corresponding caravan - [green]*Green*[/green] - over to where we are sitting!8kv_carpet_side_3_3663f20f5410fe00
NekonyancerOkay, the [green]*Green caravan*[/green] is moving next, and we played a [green]Green 2.[/green] You might think that it would end up on the same space as the Blue caravan. However, when caravans move, they always *hop over* other caravans, so it will actually end up one space past that!9kv_arrow_2663f20f5410fe00
NekonyancerThis space is marked by [red]2 gems,[/red] so we'll gain 2 gems! [green]Each gem is worth 1 point at the end of the game![/green]10kv_arrow_3663f20f54198b00
NekonyancerAfter green comes [red]*Red.*[/red] Our opponent played the [red]Red 2.[/red]11kv_card_back_29663f20f541d5100
NekonyancerThe last caravan to move is *Black,* but no one played a black card, so it stayed where it was. All the cards we played were moved to the Discard pile. [blue]And that's one complete turn![/blue] That wasn't so hard, was it?1kv_card_back_44663f212993b8800
Nekonyancer[blue]Turn 2![/blue] Just like last turn, we have to select another 4 cards now - 2 to play and 2 to pass. We should try to get the [green]*Green caravan*[/green] over to us so we flip our green *Carpet Tile!* Select *[green]Green 4,[/green] [red]Red 3,[/red] White 2,* and *White 4,* in that order! Then [red]*confirm*[/red] your action!1kv_header_salt_icon663f2190475fe10kv_target_0 19 kv_target_1 20 kv_target_3 17 kv_target_4 18
NekonyancerLet's see... The first caravan to move is *White,* but no one played a white card. The next one is [blue]*Blue,*[/blue] but no one played a blue card either. [green]*Green*[/green] is next. [red]Uh oh! Our opponent also played a green card![/red]1kv_panel_2663f21959e5c000
NekonyancerWhen multiple cards of the *same color* are played, only the lowest card will take effect! All others will be blocked, but the players that played them will receive [red]1 gem[/red] in compensation.2kv_panel_2663f21959e5c000
NekonyancerIn this case, our opponent cleverly anticipated our action and played a [green]Green 1,[/green] blocking our [green]Green 4![/green] Therefore, the green caravan will move 1 space toward our *opponent,* and we will receive [red]1 gem[/red] in compensation.3kv_panel_2663f21959e5c000
NekonyancerIt stopped at a 1-gem space. Even though it's still on our side of the board, our opponent is the one who moved it, so our opponent will now receive [red]1 gem![/red]4kv_arrow_3663f2195a0d5100
NekonyancerThe next caravan to move is [red]*Red,*[/red] and we played the [red]Red 3.[/red] Remember, caravans always *hop over* spaces with other caravans. The big circle in the middle counts as a space, just like any other. [blue]Do you know where the red caravan will end up?[/blue]1kv_arrow_3663f21a95cf0100
Nekonyancer[blue]It hopped over the white, black, green, and blue caravans, so it ended up here![/blue] At the top, you should be able to see a new option to [red]spend gems[/red] to increase the camel's movement. We didn't see this option before because we didn't have any gems yet!2kv_arrow_4663f21a95de8c00
NekonyancerEach gem we spend will increase the camel's movement by *1,* but we can never spend more than the card we played indicates! [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edac321336.24088370.jpg[/img] In this case, we played a [red]Red 3,[/red] which has only 1 gem icon on it. That means we can only spend up to 1 gem on our camel's movement.3kv_panel_2663f21a95de8c00
NekonyancerWe'll need all our gems for what's coming up next. *Click on [blue]"Don't spend Gems"[/blue] at the top!*4button_cancel663f21a95de8c10button_cancel 2
NekonyancerNow I'll explain the space the caravan stopped at. It's marked by a *Carpet / Salt Bag.* [blue]We can either...[/blue] *• Take a random Carpet Tile* OR *• Pay [red]3 gems[/red] to take a Salt Tile.*1kv_arrow_4663f21b62a57b00
NekonyancerThere are only [red]*5 Salt Tiles*[/red] in the game. The first one is worth *10* points. The next one is *9* points, then *8, 7,* and *6.*2kv_header_salt_nb663f21b62a57b00kv_header_salt_icon 1
NekonyancerWe should try to get the high value Salt Tiles before our opponent does! *Click on [blue]Buy Salt[/blue] at the top!*3button_salt663f21b62a57b10button_salt 2
NekonyancerOkay, we've learned about gems, carpets, and salt bags. The last kind of token is *Teapots.* You've probably already noticed that each caravan is carrying one. The *number* on each one indicates its *victory point value.*1kv_header_tea_nb663f21ba043fd00
NekonyancerWhenever a caravan reaches a player - the *last space* on a path - the player can claim the caravan's teapot and score its points! Afterward, the caravan will move back to the center, and a new teapot will be placed on it.2kv_header_salt_icon663f21ba043fd00
NekonyancerOur opponent played the *Black 5,* which provides more than enough movement for them to claim the Black caravan's teapot. [blue]Watch carefully![/blue]3kv_card_back_45663f21ba043fd00
Nekonyancer[blue]Turn 3![/blue] Let's play through one more turn together! Select *[blue]Blue 3,[/blue] Black 3, White 5,* and [green]*Green 5,*[/green] in that order. [red]*Confirm*[/red] your action, then watch all the caravans move.5kv_header_salt_icon663f21ba070c510kv_target_0 19 kv_target_1 17 kv_target_2 20 kv_target_3 18
Nekonyancer[blue]Turn 4![/blue] We didn't have enough cards left to play another turn, so all the discarded cards were *shuffled* and *redealt,* bringing each player back up to 8 cards [green](5 cards in a 3+ player game).[/green]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment663f2226e8abe00
Nekonyancer[blue]Okay, that's everything![/blue] At the end of a turn, if any of the [red]*piles of tokens*[/red] are empty, the game will end. All the teapots that are still on caravans and any face up carpet tiles are discarded. Then BGA will count up the points! [green]Whoever has the most points is the new Merchant Prince![/green]2kv_header_carpet_nb663f2226e8abe00kv_header_tea_nb 1 kv_header_carpet_nb 1 kv_header_salt_nb 1
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Khiva!*[/blue] If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message! Big thank yous go out to *Johannes Goupy* and *Guillaume Scholz* for designing this game, *The Flying Games* for publishing, and *Moof* for bringing it to BGA! Have fun! :D3kv_header_salt_icon663f2226e8abe00
