Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ede2ac9b48.18565651.jpg[/img] In Harmonies, build Landscapes by placing colored tokens and create Habitats for your Animals. To earn the most points and win the game, incorporate the Habitats in your Landscapes wisely and have as many Animals as you can settle there. [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerAt the beginning of the game, each player is dealt 2 *Spirit Cards.* Each card has a landscape pattern that we must create in order to activate the card's *scoring rule.* To see the rule, just hover over the *"?"* in the corner.2card_26-front000
NekonyancerFor this particular card, we'll have to set up gray tokens - representing *mountains* - in a 3-space arc. The middle space must have 2 tokens on it, and the others must have 1. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ede2ce8913.15813389.jpg[/img] Once we accomplish that, we'll secure bonus points for small mountains at the end of the game!3card_26-front000
NekonyancerLet's take it! *Click on the card on the right!*4card_26-front010
Nekonyancer*Good!* The card went into one of *four card slots* above our player board. A *Spirit Cube* was then placed in the top right corner of the card. When we successfully replicate the pattern, we can *place* the cube.1card_26-front66da51f93e80b00
NekonyancerNow that we've chosen a Spirit Card, we can start our first real turn. [blue]Each turn consists of one mandatory action and any number of optional actions.[/blue] *Mandatory:* Select and place a group of tokens. *Optional:* Take an Animal card (once per turn). *Optional:* Place an Animal cube (any number of times). All of these actions can be done [red]in any order.[/red]2maintitlebar_content66da51f93e80b00
NekonyancerWe'll start with the *Optional action: taking an Animal card.* As you can see, there are [red]*five Animal cards*[/red] in the supply. Animal cards are very similar to Spirit cards; each one features a pattern that needs to be replicated.3card_8-front66da51f93e80b00river-zone 6
NekonyancerWe can take any card we want, but again, only *one per turn.* The patterns we create on our board can contribute to any number of cards, so it's best to take patterns that *overlap* in some way. [blue]Do you see any patterns that overlap with our Spirit Card's pattern?[/blue]4card_36-front66da51f93e80b00
NekonyancerThe middle one involves spaces with 1 mountain token. That overlaps quite nicely! *Take the middle card!*5card_8-front66da51f93e80b10
NekonyancerGood! The card moved into one of our four card slots. The top right corner was then filled up with *Animal Cubes,* which illustrate the difference between Animals and Spirits. Animal cards have *multiple* cubes, whereas Spirit cards only have 1. The number under each cube indicates [green]victory points[/green] - a flat amount, instead of a scoring rule.1card_8-front66da51fc629ba00
NekonyancerNext, let's move on to our *Mandatory action: taking and placing tokens.* At the beginning of the game, BGA drew tokens from a bag randomly and filled up [red]*5 spaces with 3 tokens each.*[/red]2central-board66da51fc629ba00central-board 6
NekonyancerWe must take all the tokens from a single space and then place all of three of them on our personal board. Based on our cards, we want all the mountain tokens we can get! *Take these!*3hole-366da51fc629ba10hole-3 16
NekonyancerNext, *scroll down* a little so you can see our entire player board. As you can see, it's comprised of 23 hexagonal spaces. [blue]Any token can be placed on any empty space.[/blue] There are no restrictions to worry about - just patterns to replicate.1player_name_1194135466da520100a8600
NekonyancerLet's get started. Select this [red]*mountain token.[/red] Place it on the [blue]central space.[/blue]*2taken-tokens-zone-1194135466da520100a8610cell_11941354_2_2 7 token-36 1
NekonyancerOkay, we placed our first mountain! Mountain tokens can be stacked on top of other mountain tokens, but no more than 3 per space! [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ede2eb13b5.74608960.jpg[/img] *Next, place the [red]other mountain token[/red] [blue]here.[/blue]*1token-11866da5206de0c010cell_11941354_1_2 7 token-118 1
NekonyancerNow we're left with the [red]*brown token,*[/red] which represents the wooden part of a tree. *Place it [blue]here![/blue]*1token-8866da520dde4f710cell_11941354_2_3 7 token-88 1
Nekonyancer[blue]Good job so far![/blue] Later, we'll want to stack another wood token and a green [green]leaf token[/green] here to make a tree, as indicated on our Animal card.1cell_11941354_2_366da52104386700
NekonyancerThe orientation of our tree doesn't match the indicated pattern... [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ede30fcf33.24245807.jpg[/img] ... but don't worry. All patterns are *rotatable.*2cell_11941354_3_266da52104386700
NekonyancerOkay, we finished our *optional* action of taking a card and our *mandatory* action of taking and placing tokens. The only other possible action - placing Animal Cubes - can only be done when we replicate patterns, so there's nothing else we can do for now. *Click on [blue]"End my turn!"[/blue]*3pass_button66da52104386710pass_button 2
NekonyancerAt the end of our turn, a new Animal card and 3 more Landscape tokens were drawn to replace the ones we took. [blue]Now our opponent will take their turn![/blue]1card_22-front66da5215cfeaf00
NekonyancerNext turn! This stack of tokens is perfect for our cards. *Take it!*1hole-466da5231ba18910hole-4 16
NekonyancerScroll down to our player board again. *Place the [red]mountain token[/red] on [blue]this space.[/blue]*1player_name_1194135466da5253db80610cell_11941354_3_2 7 token-46 1
NekonyancerWe've almost replicated our Spirit card pattern! [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ede32c4097.92563166.jpg[/img] We just need one more mountain token to stack up in the middle. *Next, place the [red]wood token[/red] [blue]here.[/blue]*1token-1366da525e5c77410cell_11941354_2_3 7 token-13 1
NekonyancerNow we're left with the green token. As I mentioned earlier, it represents the [green]leafy[/green] part of a tree. [green]Leaf tokens can be placed...[/green] ... on empty spaces, making bushes. ... on single wood tokens. ... on stacks of 2 wood tokens. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ede3451ca6.40143942.jpg[/img]1token-9366da52612b37700
NekonyancerIf you've ever seen a tree, I shouldn't have to tell you that we can't place wood tokens on top of leaf tokens. :) *Place the [green]leaf token[/green] [blue]here![/blue]*2token-9366da52612b37710cell_11941354_2_3 7 token-93 3
NekonyancerExcellent! We finished our tree and successfully replicated the pattern on our Animal card. Actually, we replicated it three times, in three different rotations.1cell_11941354_3_266da5263ad2b300
NekonyancerNow we can perform the other *Optional action: placing an Animal cube.* This involves simply moving a cube from the card to the indicated token in the pattern - in this case, onto a *single mountain token.*2card_8-front66da5263ad2b300
Nekonyancer*Click [blue]here[/blue] to place an Animal cube!*3cell_11941354_1_266da5263ad2b310cell_11941354_1_2 7
NekonyancerGood! [green]Three important things to note:[/green] - Cubes, once placed, cannot be removed. - Each space can only accommodate one cube. - We cannot stack additional tokens on top of cubes.1cell_11941354_1_266da5266e5c3800
NekonyancerSince each space can only accommodate 1 cube, the other Animal cubes can only be placed on other replications of the pattern. *Click [blue]here[/blue] to place another cube!*2cell_11941354_3_266da5266e5c3810cell_11941354_3_2 7
NekonyancerIf we wanted, we could place another Animal cube [blue]*here.*[/blue] [green]Do you think we should?[/green]1cell_11941354_2_266da5268d2f8500cell_11941354_2_2 7
Nekonyancer[red]No, we shouldn't![/red] We're saving this particular space for our Spirit card! We just need one more mountain token.2cell_11941354_2_266da5268d2f8500
NekonyancerWe can place the other Animal cubes later, on other tokens. At the end of the game, we'll score points [green]according to the highest cube we placed.[/green] If we place them all, we'll score *15.* If we don't place any more, we'll score *6.*3card_8-front66da5268d2f8500
NekonyancerWe haven't taken an animal card yet this turn, but it's optional. I don't think we should commit to a new one just yet. *Click on [blue]"End my turn"[/blue] at the top!*4card_4-front66da5268d2f8510pass_button 2
NekonyancerNext turn! *Take this group of tokens!*1hole-466da52abd2ba410hole-4 16
NekonyancerScroll down. We can finish our Spirit card this turn! *Place the [red]mountain token[/red] [blue]here.[/blue]*1player_name_1194135466da52da9bbaa10cell_11941354_2_2 7 token-6 1
NekonyancerWe replicated the pattern on our Spirit card! *Click [blue]here[/blue] again to place the Spirit cube!*1cell_11941354_2_266da52de7b25810cell_11941354_2_2 7
NekonyancerExcellent! Since there were no more cubes on the card, the card was moved below our player board, freeing up the slot for another Animal card.1card_26-front66da52e05534500
NekonyancerNext, we have to deal with these [blue]*water tokens.*[/blue] Water tokens cannot be stacked on anything, nor can anything be stacked on top of them. Since we *must* place them, let's check to see if there are any Animal cards that can make use of them.2taken-tokens-1194135466da52e05534500token-67 2 token-81 2
NekonyancerThe card on the right is perfect for us! It requires a large tree, and we already have one set up! Let's place our water tokens according to that pattern. *First, place [red]this token[/red] [blue]here...[/blue]*3card_36-front66da52e05534510cell_11941354_3_3 7 token-67 1
Nekonyancer*... and [red]this one[/red] [blue]here![/blue]*1token-8166da52e53141110cell_11941354_4_4 7 token-81 1
Nekonyancer*Oops, don't forget to take the card!*1card_36-front66da52e7b825610
Nekonyancer*Now click [blue]here[/blue] to place a cube!*1player_name_1194135466da52eb5f17c10cell_11941354_4_4 7
Nekonyancer*Finally, [blue]end our turn![/blue]*1pass_button66da52ef4527d10pass_button 2
Nekonyancer[red]Okay, I think you've seen enough![/red] The game will continue until one of the following conditions triggers the end of the game: *1.* BGA runs out of tokens and cannot refill the board after a turn. *2.* A player has 2 or fewer empty spaces left on their board after their turn. [green]In either case, the game will continue until all players have had the same number of turns. Then BGA will calculate final scores![/green]1player_name_1194135466da52f819f6f00
Nekonyancer[green]Each player's final score comprises points from...[/green] - Placed Animal Cubes. - Placed Spirit Cubes. - Each *Landscape Feature,* which I haven't explained yet. [blue]We'll start with the features we're most familiar with...[/blue]2player_name_1194135466da52f819f6f00
Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ede35f0d03.93366646.jpg[/img] Each mountain with *1/2/3* tokens is worth *1/3/7* points, but only if it's adjacent to at least one other mountain, forming a mountain range. Mountains that are *not* in a range are worth *0!*3player_name_1194135466da52f819f6f00
NekonyancerIn our case, we have three connected mountains, worth *1 point, 3 points,* and *1 point.* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ede378a807.54574093.jpg[/img] That's not much, but when you account for the Animal cubes and Spirit cube that they let us place, it amounts to quite a lot!4player_name_1194135466da52f819f6f00
Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ede3909573.95730825.jpg[/img] Each tree with *1/2/3* tokens is worth *1/3/7* points, unless it doesn't have a green token on top. In that case, it's a dead tree worth *0!*5player_name_1194135466da52f819f6f00
Nekonyancer[blue]Water tokens[/blue] can be scored in one of two ways, depending on whether players are using the *A-side* or *B-side* of their boards. This tutorial was made with the *A-side.* [green][tip] You can toggle the B-side in the lobby options![/green]6player_name_1194135466da52f819f6f00
NekonyancerOn the A-side, each player's *longest river* is scored. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ede4631043.25212611.jpg[/img] The longer the river, the more points it's worth! *0/2/5/8/11/15* points for *1/2/3/4/5/6* tokens, with another 4 for each additional token.7player_name_1194135466da52f819f6f00
NekonyancerHowever water always takes the *shortest possible path* - detours are not counted! [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ede3abcb72.40202862.jpg[/img] Thus, this river will only score 6 of its 7 tokens.10player_name_1194135466da52f819f6f00
NekonyancerThe B-side features an *elongated* shape. Players will use water tokens to separate their board into *islands.* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ede4834923.94822463.jpg[/img] Each island, regardless of size, is worth *5 points.*11player_name_1194135466da52f819f6f00
NekonyancerNow for the types we haven't seen yet. Yellow tokens form *Fields.* Like water tokens, they cannot be stacked on other tokens, nor can other tokens be stacked on them. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ede3c69b65.02378182.jpg[/img] Each field of at least 2 contiguous spaces is worth 5 points.12player_name_1194135466da52f819f6f00
NekonyancerRed tokens form [red]*buildings.*[/red] A building must use a single red, gray, or brown token as a foundation, but it can't be stacked any higher than that! [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ede3e33d36.24422006.jpg[/img]13player_name_1194135466da52f819f6f00
Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ede40c0951.84799176.jpg[/img] Each building is worth *5 points,* but only if it is surrounded by tokens of at least 3 different colors. Only the *top* token on each space is taken into account.14player_name_1194135466da52f819f6f00
NekonyancerIf you need a reminder about how all the various tokens stack up, scroll down and click on [blue]*"How to play?"*[/blue] [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ede42b3366.89586657.jpg[/img] You'll see this chart: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ede4490a68.97203286.jpg[/img]15player_name_1194135466da52f819f6f00
NekonyancerIf you need a reminder about how each particular landscape feature is scored, click on the [blue]*Preferences*[/blue] button in the top-right corner. (See arrow). *Don't change any of the preferences right now.* But in a real game, if you select "Yes" under "Always display help card," you'll see this: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ede4a17556.04409835.jpg[/img]16maintitlebar_content66da52f819f6f00show-settings 12
NekonyancerOne last thing: Harmonies can be enjoyed *solo!* In *Solo mode,* the player has only three animal cards and three token spaces to choose from. If the player does not take an Animal card on a turn, they may discard and replace one.18player_name_1194135466da52f819f6f00
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Harmonies!*[/blue] If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message! Big thank yous go out to *Johan Benvenuto* for designing this game, *Libellud* for publishing, and *Mizutismask* for bringing it to BGA! Have fun! :D19player_name_1194135466da52f819f6f00
