Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed246a6984.34586861.jpg[/img] The king is dead, and instead of bequeathing his wealth unto you, his offspring, he had himself buried with all of it! You have summoned your most trusted servants to recover as much as you can from his crypt. Unfortunately, your siblings had the same idea... [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
NekonyancerEach round, each player will have one opportunity to place their dice (servants) onto the available [green]*treasure cards,*[/green] knocking out any previously placed dice. Players whose dice are still on the cards at the end of the round can claim the cards, but their dice (servants) might be [blue]*exhausted*[/blue] in the process!2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000exhausted-servants-background 2 treasure-cards-display 3
Nekonyancer[blue]Each round has 4 phases:[/blue] *1.* Reveal. *2.* Claim. *3.* Collect. *4.* Pass the torch. We'll start with the Reveal phase.3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
Nekonyancer*Reveal phase*---In this phase, several treasure cards will be laid out. [blue]*Some face-up,*[/blue] [red]*some face-down.*[/red] The number of cards depends on the number of players, as you can see in this chart: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed24b4b560.11972495.jpg[/img]4treasure-card-21000treasure-card-16 7 treasure-card-21 7 treasure-card-18 6
Nekonyancer[blue]There are only two important bits of info on each card:[/blue] Top-left corner: *Value* (in victory points) Top-right corner: *Treasure type.* We'll get more into treasure types later.5treasure-card-21000
Nekonyancer*Claim Phase*---[blue]During this phase, players can take one of two possible actions:[/blue] *1.* Claim Treasure. *2.* Recover Servants. The first player to act is whoever has the [red]*Leader card.*[/red] Looks like that's us!6leader-card000leader-card 1
NekonyancerEach player has three loyal servants (dice). When you use the Claim Treasure action, you can place any/all of them onto the available [blue]*treasure cards.*[/blue] Let's try it! *1.* Click on *Claim Treasure* at the top. *2.* Use the *+ buttons* on the treasure cards to assign one die to each card. *3. Continue* to the next step.8treasure-card-21000treasure-cards-display 7
NekonyancerNext, we have to decide how much effort each servant should put into their tasks, which is represented by *pips.* Use the [blue]*blue + and - buttons *[/blue] to adjust their effort levels to *4, 3, and 2* (going left to right). They should look like this: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed248b3ba4.25790009.jpg[/img] When they do, click on *"Confirm"* at the top!9treasure-card-21010
Nekonyancer*Great!* Now it's our opponent's turn. They can place their own servants on the cards now, but only if they use [green]more effort[/green] than the dice that are already on the cards. Let's see what they do...1treasure-card-21649a8eebbfa3800
NekonyancerThey put servants with more effort on the first two cards, *knocking out* our own servants! 😱 I guess they weren't interested in the last card.1treasure-card-16649a8f2ddbe8000
NekonyancerNext, I need to mention a critical difference between *2* player games and *3/4/5* player games. Usually, the last player in turn order will have the [blue]*Lights Out*[/blue] card.2lights-out-card649a8f2ddbe8000lights-out-card 7
NekonyancerBut in 2-player games, the player with the Leader card will *also* have the Lights Out card, granting them a second turn each round. Unlike normal turns, you can only assign servants to [red]one[/red] card in a Lights Out turn.3lights-out-card649a8f2ddbe8000
NekonyancerThis is our Lights Out turn, so we can only re-establish one of our claims. [blue]Hmm, but which one?[/blue] The one on the left is worth more points, so let's go for that one! *1.* Click on Claim Treasure. *2.* Place a die on the left-most treasure. *3.* Adjust the die so it shows a 6. *4.* Confirm.4treasure-card-21649a8f2ddbe8010
Nekonyancer*Great!* That's it for our Lights Out turn, which is the end of the Claim Phase, so now it's time for the... *Collect Phase*---During this phase, players will take whichever treasure cards their dice are on. Looks like we're getting the first and the last ones. Our opponent will get the middle one.1treasure-card-16649a8f3d0648d00
NekonyancerWhenever a card is taken, the owner of the die must roll it. If the roll is greater or equal than its effort level, we will take the die back with the card. If the roll is less than its effort level, the die is moved to the [blue]*exhausted servants*[/blue] area.2exhausted-servants-background649a8f3d0648d00exhausted-servants-background 7
NekonyancerSo when the servant on [red]*this card*[/red] is rolled, it will be exhausted unless we roll a 6! The one on [blue]*this card*[/blue] will only be exhausted if we roll a 1.3treasure-card-16649a8f3d0648d00treasure-card-16 6 treasure-card-18 7
NekonyancerDarn, looks like we only rolled a 4 with that first servant, so it's exhausted. Too bad. But at least we got two treasure cards! You might have to [red]*scroll down to see them.*[/red]4exhausted-servants649a8f3d0c76400treasure-card-16 6 treasure-card-18 6
NekonyancerNote that all treasure cards are flipped *face-down* when they are taken, regardless of how they were flipped before. [tip][green] If you hover over them, the tooltip will indicate whether they were publically revealed earlier.[/green]5treasure-card-16649a8f3d0c76400
NekonyancerNext, players can give their treasure to [red]*collectors*[/red] by *flipping* their treasure cards *face-up.* There's a different collector for each treasure type in the game.6collector-card-idol-A649a8f3d0c76400collector-card-idol-A 6 collector-card-jewelery-A 6 collector-card-manuscript-A 6 collector-card-pottery-A 6 collector-card-remains-A 6 collector-card-tapestry-A 6
NekonyancerAccording to [green]*this collector,*[/green] we can flip over one idol treasure card to re-roll a die. Hey, we just got an idol, didn't we? [red]Maybe we can un-exhaust our servant![/red]7collector-card-idol-A649a8f3d0c76400collector-card-idol-A 8
Nekonyancer*1.* Click on [red]Activate Collectors[/red] at the top. The only one we can activate right now is the Idol collector, using our Idol treasure card, so they have both been automatically selected. *2.* Select our *servant.* (The black die.) *3.* Click on *Confirm* at the top.8exhausted-servants649a8f3d0c76410
NekonyancerDarn. We rolled a 3, so the servant is still exhausted. That's the end of the Collect Phase. All that's left is the... *Pass the Torch Phase*---In this phase, the [red]*Leader*[/red] and [blue]*Lights Out*[/blue] cards are passed to the next player.1exhausted-servants649a8f47cdc8700leader-card 1 lights-out-card 2
Nekonyancer[green]And that's one complete round![/green] There's just a couple more things I have to show you. Our opponent is the leader now. Let's see what they do...2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment649a8f47d111d00
NekonyancerThey claimed two of the cards. Now it's our turn. When claiming cards, you can put more than one die on a card, if you like. Whenever this is done, the *total* of the dice will be used for claiming purposes. The dice must have the [red]same effort level.[/red]1treasure-card-4649a90adcf22c00
NekonyancerLet's try it! *1.* Click on "Claim Treasure." *2.* Place TWO dice on [blue]*this card.*[/blue] *3.* Set their effort levels to *2.* *4.* Confirm!2treasure-card-4649a90adcf22c10treasure-card-4 7
NekonyancerGood! Our opponent's die had an effort level of *3.* Since our dice had a *combined* effort of *4,* they were able to knock out our opponent's die.1treasure-card-4649a90bda416b00
NekonyancerNext, our opponent will take their [blue]Lights Out[/blue] turn. They can knock out our dice, but they'll have to use *5* effort. However, if they do, they will have knocked out *all* of our available dice this round. Whenever that happens, the owner of the knocked-out dice can [green]reclaim[/green] any exhausted dice they might have!2treasure-card-4649a90bda416b00
NekonyancerThey went through with it, so we got our exhausted servant back! 😁1treasure-card-4649a90cdea86000
NekonyancerDid you see that? No one claimed [blue]*this face-down card,*[/blue] so it was *discarded.* Let's go through one more round together.2treasure-card-17649a90cdeddb000treasure-card-17 7
NekonyancerOur opponent only has *1* available servant (two exhausted) and we have *all* of ours! This is a great opportunity for us to claim many cards with minimal effort! *Place one servant on each available treasure card. Use 1 effort on each.*3treasure-card-10649a90cdeddb010
NekonyancerOur opponent decided to *recover* their exhausted servants, so they couldn't claim anything this turn! [blue]Nice![/blue]1exhausted-servants-background649a9105cf70d00
Nekonyancer[blue]*Okay, I think you've seen enough!*[/blue] The game will continue as you've seen until the deck of treasure cards is exhausted. Then points are counted up. Some collectors, [red]*like these,*[/red] grant special endgame point bonuses. [green]Whoever has the most points wins![/green]2collector-card-manuscript-A649a910623ab500collector-card-jewelery-A 6 collector-card-manuscript-A 6 collector-card-pottery-A 6 collector-card-tapestry-A 6
NekonyancerThere's one last thing I have to mention. Each collector has an *A side* and a *B side.* You can toggle between them in the game lobby. [blue][tip] The A sides are recommended for beginners![/blue]3collector-card-manuscript-A649a910623ab500
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Crypt!*[/blue] If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message! A big thank you goes out to *jordijansen* for bringing this game to BGA! Have fun! :D4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment649a910623ab500
