Zebek*Hello friend*, I'll be your tutorial partner while teaching you how to play this game. This tutorial window can be minimized by clicking on the *minus icon*. Click on the blue tutorial icon to get it back. The *colored words* refer to elements highlighted in the same color over the board. [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green] 1maintitlebar_content001
Zebek[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ede4c06555.77294246.jpg[/img] *Crisps!* is a climbing-shedding card game where *two players* race to play all of their cards first. Quick and funny mechanics. Just like crisps, *once you pop you can't stop* :D 2maintitlebar_content001
Zebek*Crisps!* is played over a variable number of *Deals* (3 to 5). When a player gets rid of the cards in their hand, they win the deal. First player managing to win *3 deals* wins the game.3maintitlebar_content001
ZebekEvery *deal* is played over several tricks where players alternate to play combinations of cards that are *stronger* than the previous played by the other player. You can see all posible combinations by clicking the *Combination list* button. Try it.4maintitlebar_content000btnPlayerAid 16
ZebekDeck is composed of *40 cards* (4 copies of each 2 to 10 and Q). After shuffling, *4 random cards are removed* for this deal. Then, *12 cards* are dealt for each player and the leftover cards (12) will be put in the middle for drawing. 5archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
ZebekThis is the *layout* of the game. In the top you can see the amount of [green]*cards in my hand*[/green]. [blue]*One face-up card*[/blue] to draw and the [blue]*draw deck*[/blue] in the middle. You can also find your [red]*12 starting cards in hand*[/red] at the bottom.6maintitlebar_content000deck_wrap 2 playertable_96335060 3 myhand_wrap 1
Zebek*Let's play!!* At the start of the trick, first player may create *any combination* of cards either ordinary or special. As the first player I'll start creating the first combination.7maintitlebar_content000
ZebekTo keep it easy I have played a [red]*5*[/red]. That's the simplest combination, just a single card. When a combination is played, next player has two choices: *play a combination* or *pass*. To play a new combination it *must* be *'stronger'* than the previously played. [green]!!! Keep in mind that in this game, *stronger* means a combination *equal or higher* in value.[/green]1card_1966dd864c751fc00played_card_container 1
Zebek*Now it's your turn!!* Any new ordinary combination played must be of the *same type AND the same length* than the previously played. Additionally, the combination must be 'stronger' in rank (number). Your *options* are easy and varied (5, 6, 8, 9 or Q). All are combinations of a single card (same type, same length) that are stronger than my 5.2card_1966dd864c751fc00
ZebekFor strategic reasons that I won't bore you with now, just play the [blue]*8 card*[/blue]. Select the card and then click the *Play selected* button.3myhand_item_3266dd864c751fc10btnPlayCard 16 myhand_item_32 7
Zebek*Well done!!* Now it's my turn, keep an eye on what I'm doing.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment66dd865527b8a00
ZebekO_O [red]*Another 8??!!*[/red] Yes, as said before my combination is of the *same type* (single), *same length* (1) and *stronger in rank*. [green][tip] Remember, in this game *equal* rank *is a stronger* rank.[/green] 1card_3466dd865addc1000played_card_container 1
Zebek*It's your turn*. Play a stronger combination than mine. Remember the thumb rule: same type, same length and stronger rank. The [blue]*9*[/blue] is a nice choice, *play it!*. [green][tip] Don't forget to click the *Play selected* button.[/green]2myhand_item_3666dd865addc1010btnPlayCard 3 myhand_item_36 7
ZebekMy turn, try to beat this one. :P1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment66dd8678d273200
ZebekAs you may have guessed, 10 it's not the highest card. As in poker cards, Q's are *higher than any number* but you *can't* use them in runs since J's are missing. Now your only option is to play a [blue]*Q*[/blue].1myhand_item_2066dd868911f8310myhand_item_20 7
Zebek*Nicely done!!* You should think I have no more combinations to play other than a possible Q in my hand *but....* if the previous *ordinary* combination *contains* at least one *Q*, a player can play a *special* combination. So, now I'm allowed to play a special combination!!1playercardcount_9633506066dd869a8699e01
Zebek*Here it goes, Triplet!!* Now you can't beat that. Your only option is to pass. Let's see what happens when any player passes. Click the [red]*Pass*[/red] button. 1btnPassTurn66dd86a3498c710btnPassTurn 1
ZebekWhen a player passes the other player wins the trick and all played cards are discarded. Then, *each player* draws a card: - The winner of the trick *chooses* either to draw the face-up card or the top card of the deck. - The player who passed draws the card the other player *didn't choose*. Now, a new trick starts and the winner of the previous trick becomes the first player.1maintitlebar_content66dd86b56dcfa01
ZebekAs winner of the trick I'll choose to draw the *face-up card* and will start the next trick. You'll draw the *top card* of the draw deck. A new face-up card will be revealed.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment66dd86b56dcfa00
Zebek*Ok, new trick.* Since you know most of the mechanics to play alone I'll play a new type of combination.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment66dd86be779b100
ZebekThis is a *run of 3 cards*. Think for a while which combinations you can play......1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment66dd86c904c3000
ZebekYes, you have some but not as many as it may seem. 2-3-4, 3-4-5 and 4-5-6 are the only possible combinations. If you thought in a combination like 3-4-5-6 or even 2-3-4-5-6 remember the thumb rule: *same type, same length and stronger rank*. In runs is where the *'same length'* part gets sense.2myhand_item_1566dd86c904c3000
ZebekAgain, for strategic reasons play [blue]*3-4-5*[/blue]. This way you keep two pairs in your hand (2 and 6).3myhand_item_1566dd86c904c3010myhand_item_15 7 myhand_item_26 7 myhand_item_33 7
Zebek*Well played!!* I have no combinations to beat that. You are on the way to win this deal and know almost all to play this game on your own.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment66dd873e5931900
ZebekJust a last thing to point to. You *can't* play a special combination to beat another combination unless the previously played is an *ordinary combination containing a Q* or is a special combination2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment66dd873e5931900
ZebekThis game has two interesting variants that are recommended to try: *No face-up draw*: Both players draw cards only from the deck. *Special rank runs*: This variant replaces Q's with J's. This way J's *can* be used in runs. 3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment66dd873e5931900
Zebek*Here finishes this tutorial.* Hope you enjoyed it and wish you luck playing this funny game. Thanks for sticking with me until the end of this tutorial. 4gameaction_status_wrap66dd873e5931901
