Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed05831561.82430139.jpg[/img] Great gods, legendary heroes, and magical creatures live in the night sky’s constellations. You and your fellow players will take on the role of astronomers to discover and bring them to life. [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
NekonyancerIn *Astra,* players will use Stardust to mark stars on constellations. When every star in a constellation is marked, it comes to life, granting whoever finished the constellation a special ability. Other players who helped will also receive a *boon.* [green]When the deck of constellations is exhausted, whoever has the most points is the winner![/green]2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
Nekonyancer[blue]On each player's turn, they can...[/blue] *- Activate their constellations' special abilities* and then, *- Observe stars* OR *- Rest.*3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
Nekonyancer[blue]*Observing stars*[/blue]---*Observing* means to to mark stars on constellations as our color. Each star marked consumes one *stardust.* [red]Everyone always starts with 8 Stardust in their inventory![/red]4tbp-player11941354-resources-dust000overall_player_board_11941354 6
NekonyancerWhen we observe, we'll have to start with a [green]*starting star,*[/green] which is always glowing green. After marking that, we can mark any star that is connected to the previous star we marked.5tbp-card30-star0000tbp-card30-star0 3
NekonyancerOur opponent already started on [blue]*Ursa Minor,*[/blue] marking three stars as their own color (orange)! Now that some stars have been marked, any star that is connected to a marked star becomes a [green]*new starting star.*[/green]6tbp-card19000tbp-card19 7
Nekonyancer[red]Let's finish where they left off![/red] *Click on Ursa Minor's starting star. Then click on the last three stars in a counter-clockwise pattern, ending with the especially bright star!* *Then click on "Observe" at the top!*7tbp-card19010
Nekonyancer[red]*Great!*[/red] We marked the *last stars* on Ursa Minor, *discovering* it! We can claim the card with its special ability. But first, other players who aided in the discovery can select a [red]*boon*[/red] - one of the four boxes at the bottom of the card!1tbp-card19-boon16413efba8c36a00tbp-card19-boon0 6 tbp-card19-boon1 6 tbp-card19-boon2 6 tbp-card19-boon3 6
NekonyancerIf multiple players get to choose boons, they choose in order of *whoever marked the most stars.* [red]Each boon can only be selected by one player![/red]2tbp-card19-boon16413efba8c36a00
NekonyancerOkay, our opponent picked their boon, and the majestic Ursa Minor moved into our official [blue]*list of discovered constellations!*[/blue] [green]Constellations in our list grant us two things:[/green] *1. A special ability,* usually listed just under the constellation's name. This one will let us take a telescope, which we'll learn more about soon.1tbp-card196413efc8437fc00tbp-card19 7
Nekonyancer*2. Fame* (victory points), which is shown by the laureled number in the top-right corner. [red]In this case, we get 1 point of fame![/red] By the way, the number next to the fame number simply indicates the number of stars in the constellation.2tbp-card196413efc8437fc00tbp-card19 7
NekonyancerAs you can see, [red]*another constellation*[/red] was drawn to replace Ursa Minor. If you want to check how many constellations are left in the deck, it says so clearly [blue]*here.*[/blue]3tbp-card76413efc8437fc00tbp-card7 6 tbp-info 7
NekonyancerOne more thing to mention about that turn: [red]*Grand stars,*[/red] like the last one we marked on Ursa Minor! Whenever you mark a grand star, you can add another X to your [blue]*Wisdom Track.*[/blue]4tbp-player11941354-wisdomTrack6413efc8437fc00tbp-card21-star2 1 tbp-card21-star6 1 tbp-card30-star7 1 tbp-card30-star8 1 tbp-card7-star4 1 tbp-player11941354-wisdomTrack 7
NekonyancerWhatever card of the track the last *X* is on determines the number of constellations (and special abilities) you can hold onto! The number of constellations is shown [red]*here:*[/red] [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed061a1ae1.91603228.jpg[/img] [red]Looks like we can only hold onto two constellations right now.[/red] If you go over your limit, you can choose which constellations you discard.5tbp-player11941354-wisdomTrack6413efc8437fc00
NekonyancerAlright, it's our next turn. Let's start by using Ursa's special ability! [red]We can only do this at the *beginning* of our turn![/red] *Click on Ursa Minor!*1tbp-card196413effec211a10tbp-card19 16
NekonyancerGood. Ursa is exhausted now, but we got a *telescope,* which you can see in your inventory!1tbp-player11941354-resources-tele6413f006bca9800
Nekonyancer[blue]Now then, let's get back to observing![/blue] Looks like our opponent made a lot of progress on *Auriga,* but they deliberately left [red]*three unconnected stars*[/red] unmarked. Since they aren't connected, we can't mark them all in a single observation! :(2tbp-card21-star16413f006bca9800tbp-card21-star3 1 tbp-card21-star4 1 tbp-card21-star5 1
Nekonyancer[red]Or so they think![/red] *Start by observing the lone star near the top!*3tbp-card21-star56413f006bca9810
NekonyancerNow that we've observed this turn, we have the option of using our *telescope* to *observe again!* This is the only time telescopes can be used - after your normal observe action! *Observe the other two stars!*1tbp-card21-star46413f00b5414e10
NekonyancerWe only have one stardust left. *Observe the starting star in Cassiopeia!*1tbp-card7-star06413f085dcdfd10
NekonyancerAlright, since we have no more stardust, we have no choice now but to *Rest.* [green]Resting replenishes your stardust up to your pouch size.[/green] Since our pouch size is *5,* we'll have *5* stardust after resting - no matter how much stardust we had before!1tbp-player11941354-resources-pouch6413f09959b8000
NekonyancerIn addition, we'll sometimes be able to *reactivate* exhausted constellations. It depends on the position of the marker on the [red]*sphere board.*[/red] To reactivate a constellation, the marker must be on a space that matches the constellation's *element,* which is shown in the top-left corner of each card!2tbp-wheel6413f09959b8000tbp-info 6
NekonyancerIn this case, the marker is on Water, and Ursa Minor is an Earth type. That means we won't get to reactivate it. :( Regardless, we have to rest because we're out of stardust! *Click on "Rest" at the top!*3tbp-info6413f09959b8010
NekonyancerGood. Note that after resting, the [red]*sphere board marker*[/red] moved clockwise to the next space. Also, do you see the small symbol after water? It looks like it has some cards on it. When the marker passes that symbol, the *top card* of the constellation deck is *discarded!* [green][tip] This only applies in a 2-player game![/green]1tbp-wheelMarker-icon6413f0aa9055000tbp-wheelMarker-icon 1
NekonyancerThe last thing we have to do after resting is *dream.* [green][tip] Again, just in 2-player games![/green] When you dream, you must fill in stars on a *completely unmarked* constellation with a *neutral* pen. There are a lot of conditional rules for dreaming, but BGA will railroad you into following them anyway, so I won't bother with them here.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6413f0aa9055000tbp-wheelMarker-icon 1
NekonyancerIf you want the specifics, check page 20-21 of the rulebook. Piscis Austrinus is unmarked, so our Dream will have to apply to it. *Mark the starting star, then take the north path, ending on the bright star.* *Finally, click on "Dream" at the top!*3tbp-card34-text6413f0aa9055010
NekonyancerOur opponent just finished off Cassiopeia! Since we assisted in its discovery, we get to select a boon. *Take the [red]pouch[/red] reward!* [green]Remember, that will increase how much stardust we get each time we rest![/green]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6413f0c8ae88d10tbp-button1 6 tbp-card7-boon1 6
Nekonyancer[blue]Okay, that's everything![/blue] The game will continue as you've seen until the deck is empty, triggering the end. - If this happens during the *first player's turn,* gameplay continues until the end of the round, meaning everyone has had the same number of turns. - If it happens during *anyone else's turn,* one complete round will be played AFTER finishing the current round.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6413f0d218a6e00
NekonyancerTime for scoring! [blue]Each player scores:[/blue] - Points equal to their pouch size. - Points equal to the number of constellation card limit. - 1 point for every 3 leftover stardust. - 1 point for every 2 marked stars on undiscovered (incomplete) constellations. - Points shown on their constellation cards. - Elements, which I will explain in the next box.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6413f0d218a6e00
NekonyancerBGA will count up all the elements on the players' constellation cards and use a card like this one to calculate points. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed05bc8cb3.52374760.jpg[/img] Every set of *3/4* different elements grants *3/6* victory points. Having *2/3/4* of one element grants *2/6/11* points. This is applicable for each element.3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6413f0d218a6e00
NekonyancerDid you notice the two black *Xs* on the scorecard? Those indicate *free* elements! Each player will have a different scorecard, granting a different two free elements. In BGA, these free elements are indicated by [red]*+s.*[/red] [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed063cdce1.77574028.jpg[/img]4tbp-player11941354-elements-26413f0d218a6e00
NekonyancerIt might be easier to understand element scoring by looking at a scorecard from the physical game. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed05e0ef72.20968283.jpg[/img] This player has 3 air, 2 earth, and 3 water cards. His scoring card gives him +1 air and +1 fire. He scores a total of 28 points!5archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6413f0d218a6e00
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Astra!*[/blue] If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message! A big thank you goes out to *Mogri* and *Kayvon* for bringing this game to BGA! Have fun! :D6archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6413f0d218a6e00
