Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ecc4871f62.91698273.jpg[/img] *You are a humble farmer in ancient Egypt.* You depend on the Nile for your livelihood, but the god of the Nile, Hapi, can be a harsh master. Will you be blessed with bountiful harvests? Or cursed with locusts and starvation? Time will tell. [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1player_name_11941354000
NekonyancerIn *Nile,* 2-6 players will plant their own fields and try to harvest them before other players can destroy them. Harvested crops are moved into *storage.* Players can also trade cards at the market or make offerings to Hapi, god of the Nile. You'll need all five kinds of crops in your storage! [green]The most successful and balanced farmer will win the game![/green]2player_name_11941354000
Nekonyancer[blue]Each turn has five phases:[/blue] *1. Flood.* *2. Harvest.* *3. Trade.* *4. Plant/Speculate.* *5. Draw.*3player_name_11941354000
Nekonyancer[blue]*1. Flood.*[/blue]---During this phase, one card is flipped over from the top of the deck. The crop (or crops) shown on the card is *flooded* for this turn! In this case, [red]*Flax*[/red] was flooded! You'll see what that means soon.4card_-1000card_87 6
Nekonyancer[blue]*2. Harvest*[/blue]---During this phase, any player with a field of the flooded crop type *harvests* one card of that type, moving it into their storage. In this case, [red]*flax*[/red] was flooded, but no one had any flax fields to harvest from, so nothing happened.5player_name_11941354000
Nekonyancer[blue]*3. Trade*[/blue]---In this phase, the active player can visit the *market* or make *offerings* as many times as they like. *Market:* Active player discards 2 cards from their hand and draws 1 new card. *Offering:* Active player discards 2 cards from their hand and flips over a new *flood* card, triggering another possible harvest.6player_name_11941354000
NekonyancerSo, if we really didn't want Flax to be the flooded card, we could discard two cards to make an offering. Then we'd [red]*place a new card here*[/red] from the top of the deck. There's no point right now though, so let's just keep moving. *Click on "Continue" at the top!*7player_name_11941354010pass 16 card_87 6
Nekonyancer[blue]*4. Plant/speculate*[/blue]---During this phase, the active player can plant: *- at least 2 cards of the same type* *- exactly two cards of different types.* *- any number of crop cards of types that already exist in your field.* [red]!!! You cannot plant crops that are currently flooded![/red]1player_name_11941354631d517249b3000
NekonyancerIn this case, we can't plant flax because it's flooded. We could plant [blue]*paparus and wheat*[/blue] (2 cards of different types), but let's go with *castor* (at least 2 cards of 1 type). *Select both castor cards. Then click on Plant/Speculate at the top!*2playerHand_item_77631d517249b3010plantSpeculate 18 playerHand_item_50 13 playerHand_item_54 2 playerHand_item_76 17 playerHand_item_77 17 playerHand_item_85 2
Nekonyancer*Great!* The two castor cards were planted in [green]*our field area.*[/green] Now, the next time castor is flooded, we'll harvest one of them!1playerFields_11941354_4_item_77631d5174cecbb00playerFields_11941354 8
Nekonyancer[blue]There's another planting restriction that I forgot to mention:[/blue] You may not plant a crop if another player has that type in their field *unless* your new field will contain more cards than the existing field. If this happens, the older, smaller field is immediately destroyed.2playerFields_11941354631d5174cecbb00
NekonyancerIn other words, since we have two castor cards in our field, our opponent can't plant castor unless they plant *three* castor cards at once. [red]But if they do, our castor field will be destroyed![/red]3playerFields_11941354631d5174cecbb00
Nekonyancer[blue]*5. Draw*[/blue]---In this phase, the active player draws *two* cards. Um, that's it.4player_name_11941354631d5174cecbb00
NekonyancerWe drew another [red]*flax*[/red] and a [red]*Speculation*[/red] card. I'll explain speculation later. [green]That's the end of our turn! Now let's see what our opponent does.[/green]5playerHand_item_71631d5174cf3c100playerHand_item_3 6 playerHand_item_71 6
NekonyancerFirst, a new card was [red]*flooded.*[/red] All players then *harvested* lettuce, but no one had lettuce in their fields. Now our opponent has the opportunity to visit the market or make offerings, but this is seldom done at the beginning of the game, so they're moving on to the *plant/speculation* phase!6card_53631d5174cfb0900card_53 6
NekonyancerOur opponent planted two crop cards of different types: [red]*wheat and flax.*[/red] Now they'll draw two cards, ending their turn.1playerFields_92143487_2_item_59631d518318ee000playerFields_92143487_2_item_59 6 playerFields_92143487_5_item_9 6
NekonyancerUh oh! Our opponent drew the [blue]*Plague of Locusts*[/blue] card, triggering it automatically! There is only one copy of this card in the deck. When it is drawn by any player, the biggest field in the game is immediately destroyed. [red]Right now, our castor field is the biggest! Bummer![/red] If multiple fields were tied in this regard, all tied fields would be destroyed.2card_34631d5183195e900card_34 7
NekonyancerOur turn is starting now! Looks like [red]*Papyrus*[/red] is flooded. That means no one harvested, and we won't be able to plant papyrus this turn.3card_88631d51831da8900card_88 6
NekonyancerNow we have an opportunity to make an offering or visit the market. Eh, let's skip that for now. *Click on "Continue" at the top!*4player_name_11941354631d51831f79910pass 16
NekonyancerTime for the plant/speculation phase! Let's see... We can't plant papyrus or wheat; papyrus is flooded, and the opponent's wheat field will block our own. We could plant *[blue]2 flax cards,[/blue]* destroying the 1 flax of our opponent. Hmm. Let's use our [red]*speculation*[/red] card instead.1playerHand_item_3631d51925ee1800playerHand_item_50 2 playerHand_item_54 13 playerHand_item_85 13 playerHand_item_3 1 playerHand_item_71 2
NekonyancerEach speculation card shows *two* crops. Ours shows wheat and castor. Like crop cards, speculations cannot be played if either of the crops shown are flooded. When played, speculation cards enter the field area. They are triggered during the [blue]*flood phase*[/blue] of the next player's turn!2playerHand_item_3631d51925ee1800
NekonyancerIf either of the speculation card's shown crops are flooded, the card's owner draws 3 cards! If not, the owner draws nothing. Either way, the speculation card is then discarded. [green]By the way, it's possible to play *multiple* speculation cards at once, but it's hard to find a time when none of the relevant crops are flooded![/green]3playerHand_item_3631d51925ee1800
NekonyancerLet's try it! Select your speculation card. Then click on *Plant/Speculate* at the top!4playerHand_item_3631d51925ee1810plantSpeculate 18 playerHand_item_3 17
Nekonyancer*NICE!!* Wheat was flooded, so our speculation was successful! We drew three cards! But there's some bad news too: our opponent had a wheat card in his field, so he was able to harvest it!1card_75631d51947d65900
NekonyancerThis turn, let's plant [red]*all of our flax!*[/red] Since our flax field will be bigger than our opponent's, [red]theirs will be destroyed![/red] This step is buggy, so just *click on continue...*1playerHand_item_71631d57935a38e00playerHand_item_50 6 playerHand_item_71 6 playerHand_item_30 6
NekonyancerThis turn, a speculation card was flipped for the flood, so *TWO* crops were flooded this turn: papyrus and flax! [green]That means we got to harvest one of our flax cards. It's now in our storage area![/green]1card_49631d5813bdf5c00playerStorage_item_30 8
NekonyancerThe last thing I have to show you is the *market* and *offerings.* Remember, the market lets you discard two cards to draw a card. Offerings let you discard two cards to flip a new *flood* card. Let's use the market first! Here, we would select our two papyrus cards and then click on Market, but it's buggy. *Click on continue.*2playerHand_item_42631d5813bdf5c00
NekonyancerCool, we drew another *[red]speculation[/red]* card! But we can't use it this turn because one of its crops (papyrus) is currently flooded! [green]Let's change that. We'll offer our two wheat cards to Hapi![/green] *Click on continue.*1playerHand_item_55631d5831f115200playerHand_item_54 8 playerHand_item_10 8 playerHand_item_55 6
Nekonyancer*Great!* You've seen everything now. I just need to explain the *end of the game* and *scoring!* The deck of cards is played through a number of times *equal to the number of players.* Since this is a 2-player game, we'll play through the deck twice. The number of remaining reshuffles is shown [blue]*here.*[/blue] !!! Remember that the Plague of Locusts card will be shuffled back in each time!1player_name_11941354631d58388925500pass 16 iterationsText 2
Nekonyancer[blue]When the deck is exhausted for the last time, the game ends, and we determine a winner![/blue] To do so, each player's stored cards are separated by type into *five* stacks. Whoever's smallest stack is the largest is the winner! If two people are tied for the largest smallest stack, the tiebreaker is the 2nd smallest stack, then the 3rd, etc. I know that sounds crazy, so here's an example...2player_name_11941354631d58388925500
NekonyancerThis image shows the stored cards of two players: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ecc4b056d4.38406229.jpg[/img] Both of these players only collected 4 crop types, so their 5th stacks have a size of 0. Since they were tied for that, they compare their second smallest stacks. The second player had a larger second smallest stack, so he wins!3player_name_11941354631d58388925500
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Nile!*[/blue] If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message! A big thank you goes out to *Andy_K* for bringing this game to BGA! Have fun! :D4player_name_11941354631d58388925500
