[red]The volcano erupted![/red] The villagers, now faced with destruction, must do whatever they can to protect their homes from the incoming surge of lava.
Your village is about to burn up! *Can you take the heat?!*
[green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer!1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
Nekonyancer[red]*Your goal is to keep your village cooler than your opponents'!*[/red] This is done by directing the lava into your opponents' villages and by preventing it from flowing into yours.
When one village has completely burned up, [blue]whoever has the coolest village is the winner![/blue]2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
NekonyancerThe *orange* village at the top of the island is *ours.* The *blue* village at the bottom is our *opponent's.*
[green][tip] No matter how many players you play with, everyone's villages must be as *evenly spaced* as possible!3tile_clickable_5_1000
Nekonyancer*It's time for our first turn.*
[blue]Each turn has four steps:[/blue]
1. Assess damage.
2. Place a lava tile.
3. Play cards.
4. Build a wall.4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
Nekonyancer*Step 1: Assess damage.*---
Each river of lava flowing into your village will raise your village's temperature by 20 degrees! You can think of this as health. [red]*The player markers here*[/red] indicate each village's current temperature on the burn track.
During this step, BGA will calculate the damage to your village and move these markers accordingly.5playerToken_92143487000playerToken_11941354 1 playerToken_92143487 1
Nekonyancer*Step 2: Place a lava tile.* ---
[blue]*We drew a tile.*[/blue] It's floating over your village right now.
During this step, we must place it on the board so that it follows the following three rules:
*1.* On the hexagonal grid.
*2.* All sides match adjacent tiles.
*3.* Connects to an existing lava flow leading back to the center.
Click continue to see examples!6lava_36000lava_36 2
NekonyancerLet's try it!
*First, click on this space to place your tile.*8tile_clickable_6_6010tile_clickable_6_6 16
Nekonyancer*Next, rotate it so it looks like this.*

*Then click on "Confirm your placement" at the top!*1tile_clickable_8_6629ab6b5a0f1710
Nekonyancer*Step 3: Play cards.*
---
Each player starts with three cards in this hand. You can play as many as you like during this step.
[red]!!! You cannot keep more than 3 cards at the end of your turn!1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment629ab6be974ec00
Nekonyancer[blue]As you can see at the top, your cards can be used in 3 ways:[/blue]
*- Trade 2 for a lava tile.* This means you can place multiple lava tiles in a single turn!
*- Trade 1 card for a wall.* The type of wall you receive is shown at the bottom of the card.
*- Play a card effect.*
We aren't going to play any cards this turn though, *so just click on "Pass!"*2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment629ab6be974ec10
Nekonyancer*Step 4: Build a wall.*---
Everyone starts with [blue]*3 walls*[/blue] in their inventory - one of each type. During this step, you may build one.
Walls are placed at the ends of lava flows. Green arrows indicate possible wall placements.
We aren't going to build one yet though, so just *click on "Pass" at the top!* I'll explain more later!1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment629ab6c8da8a210stonecount_p11941354 2
NekonyancerGreat! That was one full turn!
[red]Now it's our opponent's turn.[/red]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment629ab6cc25d5100
Nekonyancer*Next turn!*
We already assessed the damage to our village (none, so far). Step 2 is to place a lava tile. We should keep it moving toward the opponent's village, but I need to explain a couple things first.
First of all, if you place a lava tile onto [blue]*a tile with a resource on it,*[/blue] you can take a *wall* of that type!1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment629ab6f28121b00tile_clickable_1_7 2 tile_clickable_3_3 2 tile_clickable_3_5 2 tile_clickable_3_7 2 tile_clickable_3_9 2 tile_clickable_5_3 2 tile_clickable_5_7 2 tile_clickable_7_1 2 tile_clickable_7_3 2 tile_clickable_7_5 2 tile_clickable_7_7 2 tile_clickable_9_3 2
NekonyancerSecond of all, we need to contend with [blue]*the wall our opponent placed.*[/blue]
When you try to place a tile on the other side of a wall, BGA will roll two dice - one for the wall strength, one for the lava strength.2wall_6_6_4629ab6f28121b00wall_6_6_4 2
Nekonyancer*If the lava wins,* the wall is destroyed, and the player can successfully place their tile.
*If the wall wins,* the player must place the tile elsewhere this turn!
The lava wins ties.3wall_6_6_4629ab6f28121b00
NekonyancerWalls can also be destroyed if an alternate path is made to the opposite side:

NekonyancerThis particular wall is made of *straw,* which is the weakest kind.
When testing wooden walls, *+1* is added to the wall's die. (7 strength maximum.)
Stone walls get *+2!* (8 strength maximum)5wall_6_6_4629ab6f28121b00
NekonyancerLet's try it!
*Click here to place the wall.*6tile_clickable_5_7629ab6f28121b10tile_clickable_5_7 16
Nekonyancer*Rotate the tile so it looks like this:*
[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785eca77baa00.01071344.jpg[/img]
*Then click on "Confirm your placement!"*1tile_clickable_8_5629ab6fbcf5f410
Nekonyancer*Excellent.*
If you look at the game log, you'll see that BGA rolled dice, and the lava won, destroying the wall. That means our placement was successful, and we got to take the resource (straw) that was on that space!1lava_25629ab7025543800
NekonyancerTime for Step 3: play cards.
Let's play this one! It will let us draw and play another lava tile!
*Select this card! Then click on "Play a card effect" at the top!*2playerHand_item_31629ab7025543810playerHand_item_31 16

*Then click on "confirm your placement!"*
If you get an error, try flipping the tile 180 degrees.1tile_clickable_7_7629ab71ac74b110
Nekonyancer[red]*We successfully directed a lava flow into the opponent's village![/red]*
And whenever you do, you get to draw [blue]a card![/blue]
[green][tip] Sometimes, you can connect *two* lava flows with a single tile, letting you draw *two* cards!1lava_17629ab72ced1d600lava_17 1 playerHand_item_33 2
NekonyancerWe only have one opponent in this game, but the other villages are still on the board! If you draw a bad lava tile, try to connect to a random village with it! [green]*You'll still get to draw a card!*[/green]2tile_clickable_10_5629ab72ced1d600tile_clickable_1_5 16 tile_clickable_1_9 16 tile_clickable_9_1 16 tile_clickable_9_5 16
NekonyancerLet's really crank up the heat on our opponent.

*And click on "Confirm your placement!"*
If you get an error, try flipping the tile 180 degrees.1tile_clickable_8_7629ab7557f9fe10
NekonyancerPity we couldn't connect two lava flows in this space, but connecting one is fine.
*Click on Pass at the top!*1lava_16629ab75b6a8c310
NekonyancerStep 4: build a wall. Let's actually build one this turn.
*First, click on this green arrow!*15_3_2629ab76b45be6105_3_2 16
Nekonyancer*Select stone!*
[green][tip] Remember, stone walls get a +2 to their die roll.1button_stone629ab76e1ae5f10
NekonyancerGreat! That was the end of our second turn.
Our opponent just assessed their damage. They have *two* connected lava flows, and they took *20* degrees of damage for each flow, so [red]*their marker*[/red] moved to *+40!*1tile_clickable_0_10629ab7725656b00playerToken_92143487 1
NekonyancerOur opponent tried to place their lava tile [red]*here,*[/red] but our stone wall stopped it! Instead, they placed it [blue]*down here*[/blue] to prevent us from connecting another flow.1tile_clickable_5_3629ab78b8d17f00tile_clickable_5_3 1 lava_6 2
NekonyancerOur opponent placed *[blue]two walls at entrances to their village.*[/blue]
Instead of testing the walls when tiles are placed on their other sides, these village walls will be tested *when damage is assessed.*1wall_5_9_0629ab7b3586d600wall_5_9_0 2 wall_5_9_1 2
Nekonyancer*If a wall wins,* the wall stays up, and damage from that lava flow is prevented for that turn.
*If the lava wins,* the wall is destroyed. The village takes only *10* degrees of damage, instead of 20 for an unblocked lava flow.
I'll skip through the next turn...2wall_5_9_0629ab7b3586d600
Nekonyancer[red]*Looks like our opponent's wood wall didn't hold up!*[/red] The lava burst through, and they took 10 degrees of damage. This damage will bring their temperature to exactly [blue]*+50.[/blue]*
As you can see, there's something special about this space.1playerToken_92143487629ab81c72acd00lava_16 1
NekonyancerThe *+50, +120,* and *+200* degree spaces have *[red]eruption tiles*[/red] on them. The first player to pass each one gets to place them on the board and inflict 30 degrees of damage on all other players!! :(2playerToken_92143487629ab81c72acd00
NekonyancerThese eruption tiles work similarly to the central volcano in that new lava tiles can be played stemming from them.
Our opponent placed it right next to our village, instantly connecting two new flows! [red]*Ouch!*[/red]1lava_7629ab836a97cd00
NekonyancerWe're almost done. There's only one thing left to explain: [red]*the danger zones.*[/red]
The three eruption tiles on the burn track mark three different danger zones. If a player's marker is in a danger zone, they are granted bonus abilities!2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment629ab836a97cd00
Nekonyancer*Danger Zone 1:* Player can place 2 walls at the end of their turn instead of 1. Those walls still need to come from their inventory though!
*Danger Zone 2:* Player draws a card at the beginning of their turn.
*Danger Zone 3:* Player plays an extra lava tile on their turn.
[green][tip] All these bonuses are *cumulative.* A player in danger zone 3 will have all three bonus abilities!3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment629ab836a97cd00
Nekonyancer[blue]The game can end in two ways:[/blue]
*1.* A player is at +210 on the burn track at the end of their turn. At that point, all other players take one more turn, and then the game ends.
*2.* The stack of lava tiles runs out. Here you can see how many tiles remain. If the stack runs out, everyone gets one more turn afterward, including the player who placed the last tile.4tile_7_7629ab836a97cd00tileCount 2
Nekonyancer[blue]*When the game ends, whoever's village is the coolest wins the game!*[/blue]
If there's a tie, tied players count up the point values of all the walls in their inventories and villages.
Stone = 3 points, Wood = 2, Straw = 1.
Players then subtract 1 for each lava flow connected to their villages.
The tied player with the highest point total wins!5archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment629ab836a97cd00
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Eruption!*[/blue]
