This traditional trick-taking game started out as a variant of the Austrian Zwanzigerrufen that took on a life of its own in the second half of the XIXth century. It was very widely played throughout Hungary until the 1940s and itself gave rise to further variants. Because of its association with the gentry, it was discouraged and nearly disappeared during the Soviet occupation of Hungary. Since 1990, it has gradually gained popularity again.

The game is played by 4 players forming two partnerships of 2. An advanced system of bids and bonuses gives it a strategic complexity comparable to bridge. However, unlike bridge, partnerships vary from hand to hand, determined by the card called by the high bidder. This leads to more random short-term variability in the results - but in the long run, the more skilled player always wins!

Out of the various rule variants, this implementation follows the standard set of rules proposed by Lóránt Kégl.
