Flor-wWelcome to this 8-minute tutorial for [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed2e5f8a82.09110406.jpg[/img]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64f0f42b20f8c00
Flor-wTuring Machine is a *competitive deduction game*, where you try to be the *first player to crack the secret code*. !!!Turing Machine is a very abstract game. I will do my best to help you understand all the concepts of the game, but you will get a better grip on it by playing several rounds after this tutorial. You can opt for the Solo mode to learn at your own pace.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64f0f42b20f8c00
Flor-wThe game consists of *one or more rounds*. Each round has *4 or 5 phases* that can be played simultaneously. 1. Compose 2. Question 3. Deduce 4. End of Round 5. Verification (optional)3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64f0f42b20f8c00
Flor-wIn the Compose phase, each player secretly [red]composes a code to test[/red]. This means that you will *select one number for each of the three colors/symbols*: - Blue/Triangle - Yellow/Square - Purple/Circle4guessnb64f0f42b20f8c00guessnb 1
Flor-wI will compose your first test code: [blue]3[/blue], [green]2[/green], [red]4[/red].5guessnb64f0f42b20f8c00txtbutton 16
Flor-wNow you can confirm the code by clicking on *CHOOSE THIS CODE*.1txtbutton64f0f455ed59c10txtbutton 16
Flor-w*Well done!* Next, in the *Question phase*, we will test our code with up to three Verifiers. These are simple computers with knowledge of a very specific piece of information. For instance, the *Verifier A* will give us a yes or no to one of these questions: *Is the Blue/Triangle number in the secret code*: - [red]smaller than 3[/red] - [blue]equal to 3[/blue] - [green]higher than 3[/green]1card_264f0f459e7e4b00cross_2_1 1 cross_2_2 2 cross_2_3 3
Flor-wLet's see what happens when we question the Verifier. *Click on the top half of Verifier A.*2card_264f0f459e7e4b10
Flor-wThe result of the test is *negative*. You can see this from the red X behind the cards. It will also automatically be written [red]on your notepad[/red]. In this case, the Blue/Triangle number in the test code is 3. So, we asked if *Blue/Triangle is equal to 3*. Due to the negative result, we know that *Blue/Triangle is NOT equal to 3*.3containerpunchboards64f0f45be72f100results_1_A 1
Flor-wLet's question another Verifier. This time let's check Verifier C. This one will give us information about the *total number of 3's in the secret code*. Since our test code has a single 3, we are asking if the secret code has exactly one 3.1card_964f0f45be72f600
Flor-w!!! Note that *not exactly one 3* is not the same as *no 3 at all*! There can be zero, two or three 3's in the secret code. !!! And if the answer were positive, this doesn't necessarily mean that the one 3 in the secret code has to be Blue/Triangle like in our test code. *Click on Verifier C.*2card_964f0f45be72f610
Flor-w*Oh no, another negative!* Now, you know that the code does not have exactly one number 3.1containerpunchboards64f0f4680fc6300
Flor-wYou can question one more Verifier this round, so let's choose Verifier D. This one can tell us something about *which color has the smallest number*. *Click on Verifier D.*2card_1464f0f4680fc6310
Flor-w*Yet another negative result...* Do you know what this tells us? Which is the smallest number in our test code? Yellow/Square. So, we asked the Verifier if Yellow/Square is the smallest number in the secret code. And the answer is no. !!! Note that Yellow has to be smaller than BOTH other colors to get a Yes! Therefore, *Yellow/Square's number is NOT lower than both Blue/Triangle and Purple/Circle*.1containerpunchboards64f0f473cf16e00
Flor-wTo help you with tracking all the information you gathered, you can take notes about your clues under each Verifier. You can also click to cross off the possibilities of each Verifier, for instance, to remind yourself that [red]Blue/Triangle is not equal to 3[/red]. You can give it a try.2txtA64f0f473cf31800cross_2_2 1
Flor-wAnd, you can cross off numbers on your notepad by clicking once. If you click twice, you will circle them. Feel free to try it out.3container_check_numbers64f0f473cf31800
Flor-wAt the *End of the Round*, you are asked if you found the solution. If one or more players click Yes, they will *Verify* their code. And if at least one player guesses correctly, the game will end. But more info on that later. Since our information is still incomplete, let's [red]click No[/red] to continue to the next round.4button_no64f0f473cf31810button_no 1
Flor-wTime for a new round and a new code to test with. This time, I will select [blue]2[/blue], [green]3[/green], [red]3[/red] for you.1guessnb64f0f483bdbfd00
Flor-wLet's see which Verifiers we want to question this round. We don't have any info from Verifier B yet, so let's run our code by this piece of hardware.1card_664f0f498cb8be10
Flor-w*Yay, it's a positive result!* Verifier B gives information if Yellow/Square is even or odd. Thanks to the positive result, we now know that the Yellow/Square number is odd. Therefore, you can cross off the Yellow/Square 2 and 4 on your notepad.1containerpunchboards64f0f49c5078a00
Flor-wWhen you don't want to question 3 Verifiers during a round, you can *Pass*. This will end the *Question phase* and let you skip to the *End of the round*.3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64f0f49c5078a00
Flor-wWhen you are ready to guess the code, click that you have found the code. You and all other players who want to guess get one chance to Verify the code.4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64f0f49c5078a00
Flor-w*If your guess is wrong*, you are out of the game. If a single player is left, that player wins. *If your guess is correct*, you win the game. If more than one player guesses correctly, the player who asked the fewest questions wins. Otherwise, the tied players share the victory.5archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64f0f49c5078a00
Flor-wEvery game, you might get 4, 5, or 6 different Verifiers. When in doubt about what a Verifier means, you can hover your mouse over it (on a computer) or press long on it (on a mobile device).6archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64f0f49c5078a00
Flor-w[tip] Note that the Verifiers give exactly enough information to completely deduce the secret code. There is no guessing needed. When a test code gets a positive result from all Verifiers, this is the one and only correct code.7archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64f0f49c5078a00
Flor-w!!! Finally, you can choose different levels of *Difficulty* (Easy, Standard, Hard). Hard will give you more complex Verifiers. !!! And you can change the *Mode*: - *Classic*: Like we just played. - *Extreme*: Each Verifier has two question cards. Only one of them is being tested, the other is a decoy. - *Nightmare*: The cards under the Verifiers are mixed up.8archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64f0f49c5078a00
Flor-wThis concludes the tutorial of Turing Machine. *I wish you good luck and lots of fun playing the game!*9archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64f0f49c5078a00
