ClutronWelcome to the Taluva tutorial!
In Taluva, you are creating settlements on an ever expanding island, placing your buildings out as quickly as you can in order to win. The first to place all of two of the three types of buildings (huts, temples, towers) will win. There is an alternate way to win if that doesn't happen, but I will discuss that later.
Let's get to playing!2possible_17001
ClutronOver here is your HUD which tracks your score, for the alternate win condition, and also shows how many of each kind of building you have and what tile you have in your hand.
3 Temples
2 Towers
20 Huts
You can hover your mouse over each building icon to see the name, amount of points it's worth, and the conditions to be able to place it.3hutBoard_88393020000icon_temples_88393020 1
ClutronUp here at the top right are the 3D controls. You can use the left set of arrows to rotate the board different ways, and the right set of arrows let you move the board up, down, left, or right. And the magnifying glasses let you zoom in and out (alternatively you can use your mouse scroll wheel to zoom in and out).
You can use these whenever you like in order to get a better view of the game.4controls3d_img000
ClutronUp here in to top right you also see a tile counter letting you know how many tiles are left.
Currently there are 35 tiles left in the stack. One way the game will end is once all tiles have been played.5c3dRotateL001
ClutronDown here is the main area of the game, this is where you will be placing tiles and buildings.
You will notice that our opponent has already taken their first turn, placing a tile and then building a hut on a non-volcano hex (you can never build on a volcano, that would be silly). This hut is the start of a new settlement, and new settlements can only be started with a hut on a level 1 tile.6possible_6000
ClutronWhat's a settlement you ask?
A settlement is any group of buildings of a single color that are adjacent to each other. So right now our opponent has a settlement that consists of only 1 hut. Knowing what a settlement is is very important as I will explain later.
Let's move on to playing our turn.7possible_6000
ClutronLet's place our tile on the board, notice that the blue hexes are all options for where we can start placement of our tile, this is because you must always play adjacent or on top of already existing tiles. Click on this hex to start your tile placement
Then click on the rotating arrow until the beach area on the tile covers the red box.
Lastly, click Done at the top to finalize placement.8possible_11010possible_11 16 possible_12 1
ClutronNow that we have a tile on the board, lets build our first hut. Click on the lake space.1possible_261644a758463510possible_2 16
ClutronNow you see a silhouette of the piece you are about to place, letting you know that this is what is going to be built and where it's being built.1hex_19_161644a879aae000
ClutronI think our first placement is good so click the Done button to confirm our turn.2button_commit61644a879aae010
ClutronNotice how our opponent placed this tile, but then placed a hut somewhere else? That is because you aren't limited to only building on the newly placed tile, you can build new buildings anywhere as long as you are allowed to.
Also you will notice some buildings have white dots on them now, this is to indicate the buildings most recently placed by each player.
Let's play our next tile.1hex_33_161644af9c8dca00
ClutronClick on this hex to start your placement.
Rotate it once so the grass hexes are adjacent, and then click Done.2possible_1661644af9c8dca10possible_16 16
ClutronWith the tile placed, lets build a hut on the new grass area.1possible_361644b8c4daa510possible_3 16
ClutronAnd click done to finalize placement.1button_commit61644b9087aff10
ClutronNow let's place our next tile here, making sure the forest area is next to our hut. Click Done once you have the tile in place.1possible_4161644c6f0f00c10possible_41 16
ClutronNow lets place another hut, click on this hex to build on the forest space.1possible_361644c97d190710possible_3 16
ClutronNotice how we are about to place three huts instead of just one? This is because when you are expanding a settlement with huts, you can build a hut on ALL of the hexes that are the same type that are directly adjacent to that settlement.
So in this case, we chose forest, and so are able to build on the 3 forest tile adjacent to our settlement. This is a great way to get pieces out fast.1hex_16_261644c99deb6600
ClutronGo ahead and click Done to complete our turn.2button_commit61644c99deb6610
ClutronA couple things happened when our opponent placed a tile on the second level, but what I want to point out is that he placed two huts on a single space. That is because when building huts, you place a number of huts equal to the level of that hex. So you would place one hut on level 1, two huts on level 2, and so on. This is another way to get pieces out faster.1hex_22_161644d135c2de00
ClutronNow let's build up to the second level ourselves, but there are restrictions to do so. First, you have to overlap the volcano hex on the new tile, with the volcano hex of the tile you are building on. Second, the new tile most overlap two tiles, meaning you can't stack tiles straight up.2hex_16_261644d135c2de01
ClutronLet's see what I mean, go ahead on click on this volcano hex to start you tile placement. You will see that there is only two options for placement because of the restrictions (volcano on volcano, must overlap two tiles). You will also notice that our huts would get covered, I will explain how that affects things in a moment.
For now place the tile so it covers two huts, and click Done.3possible_3261644d135c2de10possible_32 16
ClutronNotice how our huts disappeared here, this is because we covered it with another tile. Covering huts removes them from the game, but it doesn't decrease your score or add them back to your supply, so the negative effect is minimal. And you can never place a tile that it would remove all huts in a settlement.3possible_261644d7d896d200possible_2 1
ClutronNow let's go ahead and build two huts on this hex here.4possible_261644d7d896d210possible_2 16
ClutronLets place our next tile here, rotating it until the two grass hexes are two the left of the volcano hex.
Click done once it's placed.1possible_3761644f946296710possible_37 16
ClutronNext we are going to place a new building this time, a temple. Temples can only be placed adjacent to a settlement that is at least 3 hexes in size and doesn't have a temple already in it. Temples are worth *1000 points* and can not be destroyed, so they can be used to block tile placements in the right situation.1hex_19_06164687fd608d00
ClutronLet's click on this spot to place a temple, but notice something new pops up, a selection wheel.
This wheel will pop up whenever you have multiple options for what can be built on that space, in this case a temple, or a hut. When you click on either option it will show the placement silhouette like always, and you can change your mind by clicking the same space again. Now let's build the temple.2possible_26164687fd608d10possible_2 16
ClutronHere is the selection wheel which shows you can build a temple, or 1 hut. For now the temple will be selected automatically, but when playing you will have to pick and then confirm placement like normal.1hex_19_261646883987c800
ClutronNothing new happens in the next couple turns so lets skip ahead a bit.1hex_22_261646fba97e7601
ClutronAlright, let's build up to the third level, just like we built to the second level. Click here to start your placement and rotate it so the new rock hex covers the old rock hex.1possible_296164789f148f810possible_29 16
ClutronNow lets build the final building type, the tower. The tower is worth *100 points* and can only be added to an existing settlement on the 3rd level. Like the temple, the tower can't be destroyed once built, so keep that in mind.
Go ahead and click on this spot and select the tower from the selection wheel and build it.1possible_5616497de20e3e10possible_5 16
ClutronHere is the wheel again, this time it's a tower or 3 huts (because we are building on level 3).1hex_20_2616497dfdd6e100
ClutronNow this settlement is complete. What this means is that while you can add more huts to expand this settlement, you can't add any more temples or towers to it. In order to play more temples and towers you need to start a new settlement and build them there.1hex_20_2616497e63940b00
ClutronGreat job, lets end this tutorial with a few final rules to remember.
-You *MUST* always be able to build on your turn, if you can't build anything you are eliminated
-If you place buildings to where two settlements with towers/temples join and become one, that's okay, the one per settlement rule only applies when you are building temples and towers2bldg_hex_43_2616497e63940b01
Clutron-Lastly, you can split settlements if you remove connecting huts. For example, if I was able to place a tile over these huts, it would split the settlement and I would be able to add temples or towers to the now split settlements if they didn't have them already.3bldg_hex_38_2616497e63940b00hex_38_2 1
ClutronAnd that's it! The first person to place out all of two types of buildings wins, if not, when the tiles have run out it's whoever has the most points wins.
Good luck on your future games of Taluva, and if you have any further questions, be sure to consult the rulebook link on this game's BGA page.1hex_41_26164a0246115301
