Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc23bb378.80976899.jpg[/img] The ashes from the first Great War still darken the snow in 1920s Europa, yet various factions arm themselves once more for war. From the remnants of civilization, a new empire will rise. [green][tip] This 118-step tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1show-settings000
NekonyancerIn *Scythe,* each player will play as a different faction, each bent on regional dominance. To accomplish this, players will accumulate resources and spend them to enlist recruits, build structures, activate upgrades, and deploy monstrous mechs. Once they have built up their infrastructure, players will venture out to explore the region and conquer their foes.2show-settings000
NekonyancerMost of the player's actions will build toward some sort of *achievement.* The first player to secure *six* achievements will trigger the end of the game. [green]Whoever has the most points (coins) wins![/green]3show-settings000
NekonyancerEach faction always begins in the same part of the map, as indicated by their sigil. In this game, we will play as the [blue]*Nordic*[/blue] faction, which always starts in the top-right corner. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc25dd821.10548028.jpg[/img]4show-settings000
NekonyancerEach player's setup on the map is identical. It consists of... - 1 [red]*Character,*[/red] starting on the faction's sigil. - 1 [blue]*Worker*[/blue] on each hex that borders the faction's sigil. Feel free to *zoom in* for a closer look (use your mouse wheel)!5meeple-18000meeple-17 1 meeple-19 2 meeple-18 2
NekonyancerEach player has two personal boards - a *faction* board and an *action* board. Every board is different, and you'll have a unique Faction/Action combination each time you play! Each faction's faction board lists their starting resources, special ability, and mech abilities. You can't see ours right now, but you'll pull it up if you click anywhere in the [red]*area around your name.*[/red] [green]Go ahead, take a look. It has a big yak on it.[/green]6pagemaintitletext000player_name_11941354 1 player_score_11941354 1 icon_point_11941354 1 counter-4-star 1 counter-4-power 1 counter-4-money 1 counter-4-popularity 1 counter-4-combat-card 1 counter-4-food 1 counter-4-wood 1 counter-4-metal 1 counter-4-oil 1 counter-4-combat-2 1 counter-4-combat-3 1 counter-4-combat-4 1 counter-4-combat-5 1 faction-objectives-4 1
NekonyancerThe other board - the *action* board - is divided into four different columns. Each column has a *top* action and a *bottom* action. On our turn, we must *activate* a column and perform the top action. Afterward, if we have the necessary resources, we may pay them to perform the bottom action.7pagemaintitletext000
NekonyancerLet's start with the most basic action: *moving.* It's in the third column of our Action Board. *Click on [blue]"Move/Build"[/blue] at the top. Alternatively, click on the third column of our Action Board.*8maintitlebar_content010btnMoveGain 2 mat-section-4-MoveGain 16
NekonyancerGood! The *top* action is always first. The icons with [green]*green backgrounds*[/green] show what we can do. We have two choices here: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc278c3e0.08592403.jpg[/img]*: Move two units.* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc2908907.80503535.jpg[/img]*: Gain 1 coin.*1meeple-30669af3948144e00
NekonyancerI don't like the hexes our workers started in, so let's move them. *Select [red]this worker.[/red]* All of its valid destinations should have lit up. As you can see, workers can only move 1 hex at a time. [green](Step 10/118)[/green]2meeple-18669af3948144e00meeple-18 1
NekonyancerLet's move it to the right, across the river. Most factions can't swim, but as it shows on our Faction board, the [blue]*Nordic*[/blue] people aren't afraid of a little icy water! [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc2b14265.91773262.jpg[/img] *Click on the hex to the right of our selected worker.*3player_name_11941354669af3948144e10meeple-18 9
NekonyancerWe can still move one more unit. *Select our [red]other worker.[/red] Move it down-right.*1player_config669af3976d1d910meeple-19 1
NekonyancerOkay, that's it for our Move Action. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc2caabf0.48089257.jpg[/img] Next, we can trigger the *bottom* of our selected action column: the *Build* action. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc2ef0557.14212730.jpg[/img]1pagemaintitletext669af399c0f0900
NekonyancerThe icons with [red]*red backgrounds*[/red] indicate costs. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc31c7e81.92901316.jpg[/img] In this case, it shows that if we [red]*pay 3 wood,*[/red] we can [green]*build a structure*[/green] and [green]*gain 1 coin (point).*[/green] Unfortunately, we don't have any wood, so we can't do it! *Click on [blue]"Confirm"[/blue] to end our turn!*2customActions669af399c0f0910customActions 2
NekonyancerAlright, now our opponent will take their turn!1maintitlebar_content669af39c95c0a00
Nekonyancer*Next turn!* Note the yellow outline around our third column. It indicates which column we activated last turn. [red]We can never activate the same column two turns in a row![/red]1mat-4-build-2669af3ccdcdd800
NekonyancerLet's activate our second column. It contains the *Produce* action at the top and the *Deploy* action at the bottom, though just like last turn, we don't have enough resources to use the bottom action yet. For now, we just want the *Produce* part. *Click on [blue]"Produce/Deploy"[/blue] or click on the second column of our Action Board.*2btnProduce669af3ccdcdd810btnProduce 2 mat-section-4-Produce 16
NekonyancerAs the top of the column indicates, the *Produce* action lets us select up to 2 hexes we control. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc334b723.17453616.jpg[/img] In each one, we can produce 1 resource of the hex's type *per worker* in the hex.1meeple-28669af3d3ece0c00
NekonyancerLook at our corner of the board. Right now, we have 1 worker on a *Mountain hex* and 1 on a *Village hex.* Workers in Mountains produce *metal.* Workers in Villages produce more *workers.* Stop giggling. I get enough of that from my students. *Select the Mountain hex first, then the Village. Then click on [blue]"Confirm and produce"[/blue] at the top!*2player_name_11941354669af3d3ece0c10
Nekonyancer*Great!* We now have two workers in that Village! The new worker came from our Action Board. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc35524a2.79812073.jpg[/img] As you can see, there are five more workers we can "produce." [green](Step 20/118)[/green]1meeple-23669af3d7197bb00
NekonyancerIf you hover over those workers, you can take a peek underneath them. There are some icons hidden there, and though they might appear gray now, they're actually on a [red]*red background!*[/red] [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc36d4470.66285366.jpg[/img] As we produce more workers, we will reveal those icons, adding [red]*costs*[/red] to our *Produce* action!2meeple-28669af3d7197bb00
NekonyancerNext, look at the mountain where we produced metal. As you can see, the metal we produced didn't go into an inventory. Players don't have inventories in this game. Instead, produced resources just [blue]stay on the board.[/blue] [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc385b819.58498091.jpg[/img]3player_name_11941354669af3d7197bb00
NekonyancerThat's it for our *Produce* action, and we don't have enough metal to *Deploy* yet. *Click on [blue]"Confirm"[/blue] to end our turn!*4btnConfirmTurn669af3d7197bb10btnConfirmTurn 2
NekonyancerNext turn! We need more resources to get our engine started, but since we Produced last turn, we can't do it again this turn. This is a good time to *Trade.* *Click on [blue]"Trade/Enlist"[/blue] or click on the fourth column of our Action Board.*1maintitlebar_content669af3e9e4ff410btnTrade 2 mat-section-4-Trade 16
NekonyancerWe have two options: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc39e7243.52424372.jpg[/img]: [red]*spend one coin*[/red] (point) to get [green]*2 resources of our choice.*[/green] [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc3be47b2.31761398.jpg[/img]: [red]*spend one coin*[/red] (point) to get [green]*1 popularity*[/green]🩷. [green][tip] Popularity increases the point values of other scoring criteria. More on this later.[/green]1maintitlebar_content669af4a147a0600
NekonyancerAt this point in the game, resources are much more important than popularity! *Click on [blue]this button[/blue] to get resources. Then continue.*2btnTradeResources669af4a147a0600btnTradeResources 2
NekonyancerBGA wants to know what resources we want and where we want to put them. Any space where we have a *worker* will do. *1.* Select *Food.*[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc3ea8a95.96585608.jpg[/img] *2.* Click on our controlled Mountain hex to place the food. *3.* Select *Metal.*[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc40f2274.10595383.jpg[/img] *4.* Click on the Mountain hex again.3player_config669af4a147a0610
Nekonyancer*Good!* We'll be able to *Deploy* a mech next turn! *Click on [blue]"Confirm"[/blue] to end our turn.*1maintitlebar_content669af4ba9443d10btnConfirmTurn 2
NekonyancerThe moment has arrived! *Click on [blue]"Produce/Deploy"[/blue] or the second column on our Action Board.*1maintitlebar_content669af4cb6096e10btnProduce 2 mat-section-4-Produce 16
NekonyancerSelect the same hexes as the last time we produced. Mountain, then village. *Then click on [blue]"Confirm and produce."[/blue]* [green](Step 30/118)[/green]1faction-logo-4669af4d445b6910
NekonyancerThis time, we produced 2 more workers instead of 1. Again, that's because *each worker* produces a resource.1meeple-22669af4d81d49000
NekonyancerWe have 3 metal in territories we control now, so we can *Deploy* a mech! But I'd better explain a few things first. Each faction has *four* available mechs on their faction board. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc432fa87.55172193.jpg[/img]2maintitlebar_content669af4d81d49000
NekonyancerEach mech is covering an *ability.* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc45806a7.30478215.jpg[/img] Whenever a mech is deployed, it activates that ability for all that player's mechs AND their *character.*3maintitlebar_content669af4d81d49000
NekonyancerRight now, we really want the *Speed* ability. *1.* Click [blue]*here*[/blue] to Deploy a mech. *2.* Select the *Speed* mech at the far right.4maintitlebar_content669af4d81d49010btnChoice0 2
NekonyancerDid you select the *Speed* mech? If not, click on [blue]*Show faction mat*[/blue] and pick again. Next, we have to choose a deployment location. We can choose any hex in which we have *workers.* It does not have to be the hex our metal came from. *Click on the Village with four of our workers in it!*1faction-logo-4669af4dc402be10btnOpenFactionMat 2
Nekonyancer*Excellent!* Our mech has been deployed! We also gained 2 coins, as indicated on our Action Board. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc47e9fd0.34201284.jpg[/img] *[blue]Confirm[/blue] our turn.*1meeple-22669af4e3934fa10btnConfirmTurn 2
NekonyancerBy the way, all of our actions up until now - the movement, production, and trading - were all carefully planned to give us a mech quickly and efficiently. [blue]There are two reasons why this was so important...[/blue]1meeple-16669af50a330a100
Nekonyancer*Reason 1:* Every player has an *Encounter* token in their starting area, two spaces away from their sigil. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc49d0548.00820542.jpg[/img] If we move our [red]*character*[/red] to it, we'll be able to choose one of three powerful bonuses.2meeple-17669af50a330a100meeple-17 1
NekonyancerIt would normally take us two turns of movement to get our character there. Since we deployed the Speed mech, we can manage it in a single turn! *Select [blue]"Move/Build"[/blue] or click on our third Action column!*3btnMoveGain669af50a330a110btnMoveGain 2 mat-section-4-MoveGain 16
Nekonyancer*Select our [red]Character.[/red]* *Move it to the mountain hex, two spaces below our sigil!* [green](Step 40/118)[/green]1faction-logo-4669af511a1deb10meeple-17 1
NekonyancerThe encounter token is *pulsing* now to indicate that it will activate at the end of our *move* action. We've only moved 1 of a possible 2 units so far.1meeple-16669af517b6d1a00
Nekonyancer*Reason #2* (of why we wanted a mech): When mechs move, they can bring a player's workers and resources along with them! *1.* Select our [red]*mech.*[/red] *2.* Click on [blue]*"Take all."*[/blue] *3.* Click on the hex south-west of the Village.2player_name_11941354669af517b6d1a10meeple-18 10 meeple-16 1
Nekonyancer*Great!* We moved our mech, carrying all four of our workers to a new hex. But we're not finished! *1.* Use the *"v"* button to carry only *3* workers. *2.* Move south-west again!1player_name_11941354669af521f2cea10meeple-16 10
Nekonyancer*Great job!* We moved three workers to a *Forest,* so we can Produce *wood* later. We also dropped one worker off at a *Farm,* which produces *food.* That's both of our moves, so we'll "End" our moves in a second. When we do, the *Encounter* will activate.1btnPassAction669af529334bb00
NekonyancerWhen it activates, a huge Encounter card will fly up on the screen. Feel free to examine it for a bit. Then select the *bottom option.* Ready? *Click on [blue]"End all moves."[/blue] Then confirm your action.*2faction-logo-4669af529334bb10btnPassAction 2
Nekonyancer*Click on the* *bottom option!* *Then [blue]confirm![/blue]*1pagemaintitletext669af535eb5b910
Nekonyancer*Good!* We opted to pay 2 popularity to *build* a *building.* This action usually requires us to pick the third Action Column and pay 3 wood. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc4b48b69.89551155.jpg[/img] Thanks to the Encounter, we can get our first building earlier than we planned!1pagemaintitletext669af6708340d00
NekonyancerEach player has four buildings on their action board: [green]*Monument, Mill, Mine,*[/green] and [green]*Armory.*[/green] Each one will make a different Action Column a little more useful.2mill-holder-4669af6708340d00monument-holder-4 3 mill-holder-4 3 mine-holder-4 3 armory-holder-4 3
NekonyancerHmm. I think the [blue]*Mill*[/blue] is the best option here. It will help us get more resources! *Click on [blue]"Mill"[/blue] at the top! Then [blue]"Confirm!"[/blue]*3faction-logo-4669af6708340d10btn37 2 btnConfirm 2
Nekonyancer[green]Excellent![/green] Whenever we receive anything from an Encounter, we can't choose *where* it is placed. It always goes on the Encounter's hex. [green](Step 50/118)[/green]1meeple-37669af68c6dd6100
NekonyancerThe *Mill* is sort of like an extra worker. It can produce one resource of the hex's type. But unlike a worker, it can be activated every time we use the Produce action, whether we select the Mill's hex or not!2meeple-37669af68c6dd6100
NekonyancerI'll explain the other buildings later. *For now, click on [blue]"Confirm"[/blue] at the top to end our turn.*3btnConfirmTurn669af68c6dd6110btnConfirmTurn 2
NekonyancerTo have a good shot at winning, we need to trigger the actions along the bottom of our Action Board as often as possible. Hmm... [blue]If we activate the second Action Column this turn (Produce/Deploy), will we be able to Deploy a mech?[/blue]1meeple-19669af6e982dfa00
Nekonyancer*No, we won't!* Producing with our mountain hex will give us 2 metal, and we need 3. In that case, before we Produce, let's use another Trade action to get 1 more metal and 1 more food. You already know how to do this, so I'll just [blue]fast-forward[/blue] to next turn.2btnTrade669af6e982dfa00btnTrade 2 mat-section-4-Trade 16
NekonyancerOkay, now we're ready to [blue]*Produce/Deploy*[/blue] again! This time, we'll have to pay [red]1 Power[/red] to use the action. Again, this is because we produced more workers, revealing a cost on our board. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc4d3d087.88446510.jpg[/img] We'll learn more about [red]power[/red] soon. *Click on [blue]"Produce/Deploy"[/blue] or click on the second Action Column.*1btnProduce669af73d7f76710btnProduce 2 mat-section-4-Produce 16
NekonyancerTime to select hexes for production. *Select the Mountain hex, then the Forest hex. Click on [blue]"Confirm and produce"[/blue] at the top!*1faction-logo-4669af7428dae510
NekonyancerNext, we'll Deploy our second mech. I think we should unlock *Seaworthy.* *Click [blue]here,[/blue] then on the Seaworthy mech.*1btnChoice0669af7464b09010btnChoice0 2
NekonyancerDid you select *Seaworthy?* If not, click on [blue]*"Show faction mat"*[/blue] to change your selection! Again, we can place our mech in any hex where we have workers. *Place it on our Forest hex.*1faction-logo-4669af74e868b310btnOpenFactionMat 2
Nekonyancer*Great job!* The *Seaworthy* mech will allow us to move onto *Lake* hexes. We'll make good use of that soon! *Click on [blue]Confirm[/blue] to end our turn!*1btnConfirmTurn669af759573a210btnConfirmTurn 2
NekonyancerNext turn! Let's learn about the *Enlist* action, which is at the bottom of our fourth Action Column. Each player has a [red]*colored disc*[/red] at the bottom of each Action Column. When we use an *Enlist* action, we can move one of those discs to one of these slots on our Faction board: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc4eb0689.28839059.jpg[/img] [green](Step 60/118)[/green]1maintitlebar_content669af77dbe5ed00meeple-32 1 meeple-33 1 meeple-34 1 meeple-35 1

NekonyancerAs always, we'll start with the top action. *1.* Click [blue]*here*[/blue] to trade 1 coin for 2 resources. *2.* Place 2 food on our *Farm.*1faction-logo-4669af78bc955b10btnTradeResources 2
NekonyancerOkay, let's Enlist! *Click [blue]here![/blue]*1btnChoice0669af792b782510btnChoice0 2
NekonyancerWe have to select which disc we want to move. *Select the third Action Column.* Now we have to select a bonus from our Faction Board. *Choose 2 power!* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc51854b8.53219182.jpg[/img]1maintitlebar_content669af796bcd2a10mat-section-4-MoveGain 16

NekonyancerWhen we moved that colored disc, it revealed an icon! For the rest of the game, whenever we or the players to our left and right take a build action, we'll gain the reward shown: [green]*1 Popularity!*[/green]🩷 The other discs correspond to different actions and yield different rewards. If you hover over a disc, you can see the icon underneath!2mat-4-recruit-2669af7a31465400mat-4-recruit-2 3
NekonyancerWe chose the disc in the third column because we're all set up to *Build* next turn!3meeple-20669af7a31465400
NekonyancerAlright. Our first *Move* action got our first workers into position. Our second one triggered an Encounter and positioned all our workers to harvest wood. [red]But this next move action will be the most impactful one of all.[/red] *Click on [blue]"Move/Build"[/blue] or our third Action Column.*1maintitlebar_content669af7bc776d010btnMoveGain 2 mat-section-4-MoveGain 16
NekonyancerGetting 3 wood for a building was certainly nice, but our goal should be to move to a *Tundra* hex, Produce *oil,* and use it on *Upgrades.* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc5352f81.33779413.jpg[/img] That's because our specific Action Board grants more coins for Upgrades than for any other action!4meeple-21669af7c8c00b800
Nekonyancer[blue]Do you see any Tundra hexes we can move to?[/blue] [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc54d4e29.16116520.jpg[/img] We could move some workers across that river to the south-east, but we wouldn't be able to move everyone. It would be better to use our mech, but our mechs can't cross rivers (yet). They're certainly Seaworthy, but they aren't Riverworthy! [green](Step 70/118)[/green]5faction-logo-4669af7c8c00b800
NekonyancerWait a second! Our forest hex has a [red]*Tunnel*[/red] on it! [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc56c7bd0.07716725.jpg[/img] All spaces with Tunnels are considered adjacent to each other, so we can easily move to other spaces with tunnels!6meeple-20669af7c8c00b800
NekonyancerThere's a Tundra hex to the west of our Mountain with a tunnel on it! That's perfect! *1.* Select [red]*this mech.*[/red] *2.* Carry all available workers (3), but leave the wood behind. *3.* Move to the *Tundra* hex to the west of our Mountain.7faction-logo-4669af7c8c00b810meeple-16 1
NekonyancerOkay, we got all our workers onto a Tundra hex, but our mech only had to travel 1 space for that. If we want, we can drop off all our workers here and move our mech somewhere else. Perhaps through another tunnel. [blue]Do you see any interesting tunnel spaces on the map?[/blue]1faction-logo-4669af7dd5dc0300
NekonyancerOur opponent has a mech and a worker on a farm to the southwest. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc58c3381.45389091.jpg[/img] [green]And they have four resources stockpiled there![/green]2faction-logo-4669af7dd5dc0300
NekonyancerWhenever a player moves a mech or character onto another player's mech or character, they trigger *combat,* pitting their power against their opponent's. Let's do it. If we win, we'll force our opponent to retreat and plunder their resources! *1.* Drop all our workers. *2.* Move onto our opponent's farm!1faction-logo-4669af7e7db14d10
Nekonyancer*Good!* But this combat won't trigger just yet. We have to finish our move action first, and we've only moved 1 unit so far.1meeple-16669af7ef08eac00
NekonyancerDid you notice this unique hex? [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc5aa6978.59571488.jpg[/img] This is [green]*the Factory,*[/green] and it's in the exact center of the map.2faction-logo-4669af7ef08eac00

NekonyancerWe can reach the Factory with our [red]*Character*[/red] this turn because we Deployed the *Seaworthy* mech, allowing all our mechs and Character to move through lakes! *Select our [red]Character.[/red] Move it to the Factory!*4faction-logo-4669af7ef08eac10meeple-17 1
NekonyancerOkay, that's it for our move action. *Click on [blue]"End all moves."[/blue] Then confirm!* [green](Step 80/118)[/green]1btnPassAction669af7f71f84f10btnPassAction 2
Nekonyancer[red]Okay, time to fight![/red] In *Combat,* each player must secretly commit up to *7* of their stockpiled power. We currently have [blue]*5*[/blue] power, and our opponent has [green]*3.*[/green]1counter-4-power669af8033448800counter-4-power 2 counter-1-power 3
NekonyancerIn addition, each player can use [blue]*1 Combat Card*[/blue] per mech/character they have involved in the fight. Each card is worth 2-5 power. We only have [blue]*1*[/blue] card, and it's unfortunately a 2-power one. Our opponent has [green]*4 cards,*[/green] and we can't see how strong they are!2counter-4-combat-card669af8033448800counter-4-combat-card 2 counter-1-combat-card 3
NekonyancerAfter each player has secretly chosen their power and cards, their choices are revealed. Whichever side has more power wins the fight. As the attacker, we'll win ties. It's safe to assume our opponent's cards are stronger than our 2-power card, but we have a larger power stockpile. I think we can win!4faction-logo-4669af8033448800
NekonyancerWhen you click *"Confirm,"* our *Power Dial* will pop up on the screen. I want you to commit as much power as possible to this fight! That means all *5* of our stockpiled power, plus our *2*-power Combat Card, for a total of *7 power!* Ready? *Click on [blue]"Confirm!"[/blue]*5faction-logo-4669af8033448810btnConfirmTurn 2
Nekonyancer*Click on 5* *on our dial!* *Click on our* *2-power Card.* *Confirm for* *7 power!*1maintitlebar_content669af81e0d32710
Nekonyancer*Whew!* Our opponent also had a total of 7 power (3 power and a 4-power card), but as the attacker, we won the tie! All the opponent's units in the hex were forced to *retreat* back to their Faction Sigil. As a consolation prize for losing a fight, they gained another *combat card* for free. !!! The loser must use at least 1 power or 1 card to be eligible for the consolation prize.1meeple-16669af8436d3dd00
NekonyancerAs for us, our attacking mech gets to stay in the hex with the resources our opponent worked so hard to produce. Unfortunately, scaring away workers is a war crime. Whenever a player attacks and forces workers to retreat, they [red]lose 1 popularity[/red]🩷 per retreating worker! [green]Luckily, we were already at 0 Popularity.[/green] :)2meeple-16669af8436d3dd00star-combat-1 7
NekonyancerWe also gained an [blue]*achievement star*[/blue] for winning combat. It's located at the top of the map. *Scroll up until you find it.*3meeple-16669af8436d3dd00star-combat-1 2
NekonyancerAs you can see, there are [blue]*two combat slots*[/blue] up here, so each player can earn a maximum of 2 stars from combat.4star-combat-2669af8436d3dd00star-combat-1 7 star-combat-2 7
NekonyancerThere are eight other ways we can gain a star. You can hover over any particular box to see what it is. When one player gains their *6th star,* the game will *immediately* end! [green](Step 90/118)[/green]6star-combat-1669af8436d3dd00
NekonyancerNext, we'll resolve our other movement - that of our character onto the [green]*Factory.*[/green] We'll draw 3 Factory cards, and we need to select one of them to keep. *Keep the middle one, okay?*7maintitlebar_content669af8436d3dd00
Nekonyancer*Select the* *middle card.* *Confirm!*8maintitlebar_content669af8436d50010
Nekonyancer*Great!* That card filled in the fifth slot on our Action Board. We can activate it on our turn, just like any other column! The top of our chosen card costs [red]*1 power*[/red] and grants [green]*3 coins.*[/green] [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc5c29411.31720083.jpg[/img]1meeple-31669af8695649e00
NekonyancerThe bottom looks like it gives us a move action, but it's a little different from the one in our third action column. Our third column lets us move *2* units *1* space each (2 spaces for mechs/characters with speed). [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc5e3e060.76269849.jpg[/img] Our new one lets us move *1* unit *2* spaces (3 spaces for mech/char with speed). [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc60cf468.77354285.jpg[/img]2maintitlebar_content669af8695649e00
NekonyancerWhew, that was quite a move. We moved our workers to a Tundra hex, won a combat, and acquired a Factory card. And that was only the *top* of our action column! Next, we can build a building! *Click [blue]here[/blue] to build!*3btnChoice0669af8695649e10btnChoice0 2
NekonyancerWe have to select 3 wood on the board. Let's use the wood that we plundered from our opponent! *Click on [red]this space[/red] twice and [green]this space[/green] once.* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc62bf319.28157672.jpg[/img] *Then [blue]confirm![/blue]*1faction-logo-4669af87012f4a10btnConfirm 2
NekonyancerNow we have to choose one of our remaining buildings. The [red]*Monument*[/red] will give us *1 Popularity* each time we activate the 1st Action Column. The [blue]*Mine*[/blue] will function as a *tunnel* that only we can access. The [green]*Armory*[/green] will give us *1 Power* each time we activate the 4th Action Column.1maintitlebar_content669af8799e66500monument-holder-4 1 mine-holder-4 2 armory-holder-4 3
NekonyancerSince we will want to use our 1st Action Column quite a bit moving forward, let's build the *Monument.* *1.* Select the [blue]*Monument*[/blue] at the top. *2.* Place it on the Tundra hex with our 3 workers. *3. [blue]Confirm![/blue]*2faction-logo-4669af8799e66510btn36 2 btnConfirm 2
Nekonyancer*Great!* Note that we immediately gained 1 Popularity🩷. It wasn't from the monument, but from the fact that we *built* something, triggering the icon that we revealed with our Enlist action earlier.1mat-4-recruit-2669af89261d7600mat-4-recruit-2 3
NekonyancerOkay, that's it for our turn. [blue]*Confirm!*[/blue] [green](Step 100/118)[/green]2btnConfirmTurn669af89261d7610btnConfirmTurn 2
NekonyancerNext, I would like to Produce oil with our perfectly positioned workers, but we'll have to pay 1 power for that, and we used all our power in Combat! To get more, we'll need the *Bolster* action. *Click on [blue]"Bolster/Upgrade"[/blue] or the first Action Column.*1btnBolster669af8f7894b510btnBolster 2 mat-section-4-Bolster 16
NekonyancerThis action will let us either... [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc6459529.88037781.jpg[/img]: [red]Pay 1 coin[/red] for [green]2 Power.[/green] OR [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc65e74a4.84453123.jpg[/img]: [red]Pay 1 coin[/red] for [green]1 Combat Card.[/green]1maintitlebar_content669af913eb31100
NekonyancerBoth choices will trigger our recently constructed Monument, giving us 1 Popularity🩷. *Click [blue]here[/blue] to get 2 power!*2btnBolsterpower669af913eb31110btnBolsterpower 2
NekonyancerI'll skip through this next turn. We'll simply Produce 3 oil and 2 metal.1faction-logo-4669af92d1221a00
NekonyancerNow that we have oil, we can finally Upgrade something! *Click on [blue]"Bolster/Upgrade"[/blue] or our first Action Column.* 1btnBolster669af95465d6410btnBolster 2 mat-section-4-Bolster 16
Nekonyancer*Click [blue]here[/blue] to gain 2 power.*1btnBolsterpower669af95974c7310btnBolsterpower 2
Nekonyancer*Click [blue]here[/blue] to pay 3 oil for an upgrade!* As I mentioned before, this will also give us 3 coins!1btnChoice0669af95f59d1a10btnChoice0 2
NekonyancerUpgrading allows us to move one cube from the top of our Action Board to any space on the bottom of our board. On the top, it will [green]*reveal*[/green] another icon matching whatever is to the left of it. On the bottom, it will cover up a [red]*cost*[/red] icon, making an action cheaper.1maintitlebar_content669af96610d4800
Nekonyancer*Select [green]this cube.[/green]* *Move it to the bottom of our [red]third column.[/red]* *Then [blue]confirm![/blue]*2maintitlebar_content669af96610d4810btnConfirm 2 meeple-26 3 mat-4-build-2 1
Nekonyancer*Great!* From now on, our [green]*Bolster*[/green] action will give us *3* power instead of *2,* and our [red]*Build*[/red] action will require *2* wood instead of *3!* [green](Step 110/118)[/green]1meeple-26669af972dc5df00mat-4-bolster-power-2 3 meeple-26 1
Nekonyancer[blue]We're almost done! Just a few more things to go over.[/blue] At the beginning of the game, each player received [red]*2 Objective cards.*[/red] If we fulfill the requirements on one, we can reveal it at the end of our turn, earning a *star!* We can only earn one star this way though. You can hover over each card to see the requirement.1faction-objectives-4669af98bd689400faction-objectives-4 1
NekonyancerThe game will end immediately when someone gains their *6th achievement star.* Then each player will receive bonus coins from two sources: *- Structure Bonus Tile.* *- Popularity Track.*5maintitlebar_content669af98bd689400
NekonyancerThe *Structure Bonus Tile* is tucked into the bottom-right corner of the map. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc6760a98.16995407.jpg[/img] It will award us bonus coins depending on where our buildings are placed on the map.6maintitlebar_content669af98bd689400
NekonyancerThis particular tile indicates that we get bonus points for having structures adjacent to hexes with Encounters. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edc6960c98.36149557.jpg[/img] [green]You can hover over the tile for details![/green]7maintitlebar_content669af98bd689400
NekonyancerThe [red]*Popularity Track*[/red] is located along the left edge of the map. It shows how many coins we'll gain from three different criteria: *- Stars.* *- Controlled territories* (the Factory counts as 3 territories). *- Every 2 leftover resources on controlled territories.*8faction-logo-4669af98bd689400popularity-board 1
NekonyancerThe track is divided into three different brackets. If we gain enough popularity🩷 to enter a higher bracket, we'll earn more coins from the endgame criteria! After receiving these bonuses, [green]whichever player has the most coins is the winner![/green]9faction-logo-4669af98bd689400
NekonyancerAfter you get some experience with different factions and Action Boards, you might be want to try *Auction Setup mode,* which you can toggle in the lobby options. In this mode, an Action Board is paired with each Faction Board. Players will then bid coins for a role.11maintitlebar_content669af98bd689400
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Scythe!*[/blue] If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message!
