NekonyancerWelcome to *Rummy!* This tutorial will focus on a specific variant called *Rummy 500,* which is the default option on BGA. But don't worry - you can switch to Basic Rummy in the lobby options. [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64c39bf4cda5400
NekonyancerIn Rummy, each player starts with a hand of [red]*13 cards.*[/red] (7 cards in 3/4 player games.) Your goal is to empty your hand as quickly as possible by *melding* cards, which means making sets and placing them down on the table.2myhand_item_1964c39bf4cda5400myhand 1
NekonyancerOn your turn, you can do [blue]three things in order:[/blue] 1. *Draw* a card. (Mandatory) 2. *Meld* cards. (Optional) 3. *Discard* a card. (Mandatory, unless you have no cards left.) [blue]Got it? Draw, meld, discard.[/blue]3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64c39bf4cda5400
Nekonyancer[blue]Step 1: Draw a card.[/blue]---We can either draw a random card from the top of the [red]*deck*[/red] or the top card of the [blue]*discard pile.*[/blue] Since this is *Rummy 500,* we have a third option: take *any* card in the discard pile *AND* all cards on top of it. However, you may only do this if you are able to immediately meld or add the bottom card.4discard_pile64c39bf4cda5400deck_counter 1 discard_pile_item_5 2
NekonyancerThe 5 of Spades looks perfect for us. *Select the [green]5 of Spades.[/green] Then click on [blue]"Take selected discard"[/blue] at the top!*5discard_pile_item_564c39bf4cda5410discard_pile_item_5 3
Nekonyancer[blue]Step 2: Meld cards.[/blue]---Again, that means making sets and placing them down on the table. Cards can be melded into two types of sets: *Runs:* at least 3 consecutive cards of the same suit, like 3♡ - 4♡ - 5♡. *Sets:* at least 3 cards of the same number, like 7♡ - 7♠️ - 7♣.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64c39bfc1c49a00
NekonyancerBy the way, Aces are flexible. They can be *low* (one step below 2) or *high* (one step above K). [red]However, they cannot "bridge the gap" between K and 2.[/red] For example, K - A - 2 would *not* be a valid run.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64c39bfc1c49a00
NekonyancerLook carefully at our hand. [blue]Do you see anything we can meld?[/blue]3myhand64c39bfc1c49a00
NekonyancerWe can make a run of Spades! *Select 4, 5, and 6 of Spades. Then click on [blue]"Meld / Add"[/blue] at the top!*4myhand_item_564c39bfc1c49a10myhand_item_32 1 myhand_item_40 1 myhand_item_5 1
NekonyancerWe can also meld a set of 8s! *Select the 3 [green]8s![/green] Meld them!*1myhand_item_3864c39c01e38bd10myhand_item_33 3 myhand_item_38 3 myhand_item_51 3
NekonyancerGreat job! Next, I want to quickly point out the [blue]*"Undo actions"*[/blue] button at the top. It does what it says. Handy, right?1btnUndoAction64c39c0933db000
Nekonyancer[blue]Step 3: Discard and end turn.[/blue] (Or go out)---Pretty self-explanatory, right?2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64c39c0933db000
Nekonyancer*Select the [green]6 of Hearts.[/green] Then click on [red]"Discard and end turn"[/red] at the top!*3myhand_item_3964c39c0933db010myhand_item_39 3
NekonyancerGreat! Now it's our opponent's turn.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64c39c7fde6e700
NekonyancerOur turn again! Remember, we must draw a card first. *Draw the 3 of Spades!*1discard_pile_item_2864c39caf4d4e310discard_pile_item_28 16
NekonyancerHmm... looks like we can't meld any more cards... but we can *add* cards to melds that are already on the table, including melds that our opponents played! *Click on the [green]3 of Spades.[/green] Then click on the [red]run of Spades[/red] on the table. Finally, click on [blue]"Meld / Add"[/blue] at the top!*2myhand_item_2864c39cbebf60810myhand_item_28 3 card_40 1 card_5 1 card_32 1
NekonyancerThere's one more card we can add - the 8 of Spades - but I think we should keep it for now. It can help us meld the rest of our spades later! *Discard the [green]Jack of Diamonds[/green] to end your turn.*1myhand_item_3764c39ccc62be910myhand_item_19 3
NekonyancerOkay, I think you've seen enough! The round will continue until one person completely empties their hand *OR* a player chooses not to draw a card, which can only be done when the [red]*deck*[/red] is empty. [green]Then the round is scored![/green]1deck_counter64c39cd7ce5c300deck_counter 1
NekonyancerIn *Rummy 500* (default), each player scores the sum of the values of all the cards they melded/added, minus the sum of the values of the cards left in their hand. In *Basic Rummy,* whoever emptied their hand gains points equal to the sum of the values of all the cards left in their opponents' hands.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64c39cd7ce5c300
Nekonyancer[blue]The card values are as follows:[/blue] *Number cards* = The number. (8♠️ = 8 points) *Face cards* = 10 points (K♠️ = 10 points) *Aces* = 15 points or 1 point, depending on if it was used high or low. After scoring a round, a new round will start unless someone reaches the target number of points needed to win! (250 by default in Rummy 500, 50 in basic.) If multiple players reach it at the same time, whoever has more points wins!3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64c39cd7ce5c300
NekonyancerYou can check everyone's scores at any time [red]*here.*[/red] (Number of stars).4player_board_1194135464c39cd7ce5c300overall_player_board_92143487 1 player_board_11941354 1
NekonyancerThe last thing I have to mention is the *lobby options!* In addition to *Rummy 500* and *Basic Rummy,* there are several rules that can be toggled on and off, so you can find the version of Rummy that's right for you. Every option is clearly labeled. Be sure to peruse through them before your first game!5archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64c39cd7ce5c300
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Rummy!*[/blue] If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message! A big thank you goes out to *ufm* for bringing this game to BGA! Have fun! :D6archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64c39cd7ce5c300
