NekonyancerWelcome to... [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ec3bc1ebb9.29278932.jpg[/img] In this game, you control a team of goblins trying to gather [green]gems[/green] from a collapsing mine. Culminating in the total destruction of the board, can you leave your opponents eating your gold-dust and escape the chasm with the most expensive gems?2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
NekonyancerEach player starts with two *carts,* as you can see here...3otr_play_area001place_cart_item_1 12 place_cart_item_2 12 readycarts_85385073 12 otr_player_11941354 12 otr_player_85332445 12 otr_player_89594046 12
NekonyancerAnd you'll need to send them out to gather [red]gems[/red] like these!5tricrop_56000tricrop_56 6
NekonyancerYou get *four* actions on your turn. Each action can be used to... - Lay or upgrade track - Place a minecart - Change minecart speed6archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
NekonyancerSince we're the [blue]*blue*[/blue] player, our carts have to come in on this side of the board.7tricrop_71000tricrop_47 6 tricrop_59 6 tricrop_71 6 tricrop_83 6 tricrop_95 6 tricrop_107 6
NekonyancerThere are some shiny [red]*rubies*[/red] nearby. Let's go get 'em! First, click here to place a *minecart.*8tricrop_59010tricrop_56 6 tricrop_59 16
NekonyancerGreat! Those [red]rubies[/red] will be ours in no time! As you can see, your cart has a die on it, and it starts at *3* by default. This is the cart's *speed.*1tricrop_5961d31c75bca6500tricrop_59 6
NekonyancerPlacing that cart took *1* action, so we have *3* left this turn. We don't want our cart to just tumble into the abyss, so let's *lay some track* for it!2tricrop_5961d31c75bca6500tricrop_56 6 tricrop_57 6 tricrop_58 6
NekonyancerFirst click *here* to select the kind of track. Two arrows should appear. You can use these arrows to *rotate* the tile! Right now, we need a *horizontal* tile. Then click on the [red]highlighted[/red] square to place it!3place_track_item_161d31c75bca6510tricrop_58 6 place_track_item_1 16
NekonyancerGreat! Let's place another tile of track here...1place_track_item_161d31c772a69100tricrop_57 6 place_track_item_1 16
NekonyancerAnd one last tile on those sweet [red]rubies[/red]! Hold on a second though. If we lay some straight track, we'll crash right into that [green]green mine[/green]!1cartspace_5661d31c77e7ac600cartspace_55 13 cartspace_56 6
NekonyancerWe need some *curving tracks.* You'd click here to select them, reorient them as needed, and then click on the [red]highlighted[/red] square! Click continue...2place_track_item_261d31c77e7ac600tricrop_56 6 place_track_item_2 16
NekonyancerThat's all our actions, so let's click "*End Actions*" to end our turn.1player_end_actions61d31c79547be10player_end_actions 16
NekonyancerGreat! Our cart moved *3* spaces (according to its speed) and landed right on the [red]rubies[/red]. When a cart ends its movement on gems, it can pick up *two* of them. As you can see, the cart has already turned because the track was going that direction.1cart_white_2_wrap61d31c7b2954c00
NekonyancerThe rubies are now in our white-die cart's *inventory.* There's also an inventory for our black-die cart, but we aren't using that cart yet.2cartspace_3561d31c7b2954c00cartspace_34 6 cartspace_35 6 cartspace_118 6 cartspace_119 6
NekonyancerAt the end of your turn, more gems were randomly put onto the board. Now, let's see what the next player does...3cartspace_9961d31c7b2a84800cartspace_99 6
NekonyancerLooks like Yellow's turn was pretty similar to ours. They laid three tiles of track, placed a cart, and gobbled up two chunks of gold! Unfortunately, that gold is worth more than our rubies.1cart_white_3_wrap61d331d81746600cartspace_129 6 cartspace_141 6
NekonyancerThere's a chart that shows how much gems are worth here, just under "Your Stockpile." [red]Rubies: 1 point each[/red] [green]Emeralds: 2 points each[/green] Gold: 3 points each [blue]Diamonds: 4 points each[/blue] [red]Rubies[/red] are the least valuable, but whoever has the most [red]rubies[/red] at the end gets *5* bonus points! Oh, and there are also black rocks, but they're worthless! 2stockpile61d331d81746600
NekonyancerNow, let's fast forward to our next turn...3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment61d331d81746600
NekonyancerAlright! Four more actions to use! Our white-die cart is still chugging along at a speed of *3.* If we don't put enough track in front of it, it will *fall* into the chasm! The cart will come back to us automatically, but we'll lose that sweet, sweet loot it's carrying!1cart_white_2_wrap61d383375b3ea00cart_white_2_wrap 6
NekonyancerLet's put a *vertical* track tile in front of the cart. Click here, and then click on an arrow to *reorient* it. Afterward, click on the [red]highlighted[/red] square.2place_track_item_161d383375b3ea10tricrop_68 6 place_track_item_1 16
NekonyancerGreat! Now add another...1place_track_item_161d38562e9baa00tricrop_80 6 place_track_item_1 16
NekonyancerAnd another!1place_track_item_161d38563d3cc900tricrop_92 6 place_track_item_1 16
NekonyancerOkay, we have enough track in front of our white-die cart for now. Let's think about our next haul. There's some gold and an emerald up here! 1tricrop_4461d385667e87800cartspace_44 6
NekonyancerInstead of building new tracks to get there, let's upgrade a tile! First you'd click here, then use the arrows to orient the tile. We want exits on the *left, right, and top* of the tile. Then you'd click on the [red]highlighted[/red] square! Click continue...2place_track_item_361d385667e87800tricrop_57 6 place_track_item_3 16
NekonyancerGreat job! We can continue that line of track next turn. I want to note that we could *not* have upgraded the tile our cart is currently sitting on. That's an important rule to remember! *No upgrading if anyone has a cart on it!*1tricrop_5761d3856c4353d00cart_white_2_wrap 13 tricrop_57 6
NekonyancerWe've used all four of our actions, so let's end our turn.2player_end_actions61d3856c4353d10player_end_actions 16
NekonyancerThe rocks we landed on went into our cart's inventory. Remember, they're worthless, but we didn't have a choice. We landed on them, so we had to pick them up. Now they're clogging up our cart's inventory. There's another special rule for rocks: !!!If there are both *rocks* and *gems* on a tile, the cart must pick up the rocks first!1cartspace_3461d3856dd798300
NekonyancerIn this game though, there happens to be a silver lining! Look over here! According to this mission card, Whoever has the most rocks at the end of the game gets an extra four points! Cha-ching!2mission_stock_item_mission_1061d3856dd798300mission_stock_item_mission_10 6
NekonyancerYou can read the other available missions on your own. For these other missions, one has to be the *FIRST* one to accomplish the mission! Each mission can only be claimed by one person!3mission_stock_item_mission_161d3856dd798300mission_stock_item_mission_7 6 mission_stock_item_mission_8 6 mission_stock_item_mission_0 6 mission_stock_item_mission_1 6
NekonyancerYellow has to choose which cart moves first. If they choose black, they will collide with their white cart! That would be a disaster, as you'll see later...1cartspace_9061d386305366300
NekonyancerRed's cart is moving OVER this gem deposit here, but not stopping on it. She only gets to pick up one gem, but at least she can choose which one!1cart_white_0_wrap61d386bfb233000cart_white_0_wrap 6
NekonyancerHere Red's cart is landing on a deposit with a gold, a diamond, and a rock. She gets to pick up two things. The first thing *MUST* be the rock, but she can choose for the second thing.1cart_white_0_wrap61d386d4654cf00cart_white_0_wrap 6
NekonyancerOur turn! Time for you to see your first !!!*collision!*!!!1cart_white_2_wrap61d38726536d300
NekonyancerHold on to your hats!1cart_white_2_wrap61d387b78d54400cart_white_2_wrap 6 cart_black_3_wrap 6 tricrop_103 6 tricrop_104 6
Nekonyancerwha*BAM!* We just T-boned them! Whenever you hit someone's cart, your movement immediately ends, and your cart must *reverse direction* for next turn. Since this was a T-bone, the victim's cart can keep going the way it was going.1cart_white_2_wrap61d387bb7bd8200cart_black_3_wrap 15 cart_white_2_wrap 9
NekonyancerIt's very important to note here that our tracks were *not* actually connected here. It's hard to see under the cars though, so here's another example: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ec3bed5397.64978293.jpg[/img] When the tracks are *not* connected, there isn't too much harm done. It's just a fender bender.2cart_white_2_wrap61d387bb7bd8200
NekonyancerWhat's that? You wanted carnage and twisted metal and explosions? Don't worry. We'll get there. :)3cart_white_2_wrap61d387bb7bd8200
NekonyancerOur black cart here has a choice. We want to get more of that fat loot though, so we should go *up.* You can click either on the small arrows on the tile, or on the larger icons at the top. Go ahead and click on something.4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment61d387bb7d50710choosedirection_0 16 tricrop_57 16
NekonyancerYellow's white-die cart is moving off the board with two gold in its inventory. It will go to his *stockpile,* so it will count toward his endgame score! [tip] Your carts have to enter the board on your side, but they can *LEAVE* the board from any side!1cart_white_3_wrap61d38933de3dc00
NekonyancerThe red player spent one action increasing her speed. When you do so, you can only go up or down by *1 pip.* Since she was at *3,* one action allowed her to increase to *4.* I hope you have popcorn ready. Watch this!1cart_white_0_wrap61d38bf30fcde00
NekonyancerThis time, the tracks were connected! Nothing bad happens to the red cart, which was driving at the time. The yellow player, though, has to divide the contents of that cart into two hands. The red player will choose a hand, and those gems will fall to the ground!1jewelsplit_wrap_left61d38bf9c044500jewelsplit_wrap_left 6 jewelsplit_wrap_right 6
NekonyancerYellow ended up dropping a rock. Lucky him! Since this was a *head-on collision,* both carts have to turn around.1cart_black_3_wrap61d38caa4d9ad00
NekonyancerWow, two collisions in one turn! I think Red had a little too much to drink. This collision is a bit different. This time, the red cart was *completely empty.* If an empty cart is in a collision, it *derails,* dropping off the board completely!1cart_black_0_wrap61d38cde91eb900
NekonyancerGreen's cart had one ruby. Since there was only one gem in the cart, they didn't have to go through the left/right hand thing. They just dropped the ruby.2cart_white_1_wrap61d38cde9239f00
NekonyancerPlay will continue in this way for a while until the end is triggered. When that happens, chasms will appear near the four deposits! [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ec3c286860.06085808.jpg[/img]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment61d3f9e94632b00
NekonyancerThroughout most of the game, if your cart derails, it goes back into your hand and you can send it back out again. However, after the chasms are triggered, any derailed carts are LOST. Any carts you still have at the end are worth 2 points each, so try not to lose them!2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment61d3f9e94632b00
NekonyancerThe chasms will get bigger and bigger each round. Players can choose where they expand to, so your opponents might make them expand right under your wheels if they get the chance!3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment61d3f9e94632b00
NekonyancerEventually, the chasms will swallow up so much of the board that there's no point venturing forth anymore. Once there are *no carts left on the board* (due to everyone opting not to send them out) the game ends. Whoever has the most points (counting surviving carts, gems in the stockpile, and mission cards) is the winner!4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment61d3f9e94632b00
NekonyancerThanks for playing through my tutorial for *Off The Rails!* Now get out there and try a game for yourself! [tip] Pro tip: try to stay *on* the rails whenever possible.5archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment61d3f9e94632b00
