Nekonyancer[red]This is your underground map of Tokyo![/red] Each player has an almost *identical* map. Each circled shape on the map represents a *station.* Throughout the game, players will be drawing lines between stations. At the end of the game, their lines will be scored according to various criteria. [green]Whoever has the most points after four rounds wins![/green]2nex_station_11941354_6_6000
NekonyancerEach round, we will design a differently colored *line.* [blue]*The pencil*[/blue] in the top-right corner of our board indicates which line we have to start with. Looks like we're starting with pink!3nex_movingpencil_pink000nex_movingpencil_pink 2
NekonyancerRemember how I said *almost* identical maps? The only difference is the *order of the line colors.* Our opponent, [red]*nekonekoneko3,*[/red] is starting with Purple, as indicated on their own [green]*personal map*[/green] and in the [blue]*player information panels.*[/blue] [green][tip] You can click on any player's personal board to take a closer look at their network![/green]4nex_playerboard_92143487000nex_opponents 3 player_board_11941354 2 player_board_92143487 2
NekonyancerAs I mentioned before, lines must be drawn *between stations,* starting with the station that matches our line's *color.* That means we're starting [red]*here!*[/red]5nex_station_11941354_6_6000nex_station_11941354_6_6 1
NekonyancerEvery turn, a [green]*card*[/green] with a shape on it will be flipped over. All players must then draw a connection to a station with a matching shape. This card has a pentagon, so we have to draw a line from our starting station to a [blue]*pentagon station.* [/blue]6nex_card_station_current000nex_card_station_current 3 nex_station_11941354_8_1 2 nex_station_11941354_1_3 2 nex_station_11941354_4_3 2 nex_station_11941354_6_3 2 nex_station_11941354_10_4 2 nex_station_11941354_2_6 2 nex_station_11941354_5_6 2 nex_station_11941354_7_7 2 nex_station_11941354_10_7 2 nex_station_11941354_1_8 2 nex_station_11941354_7_9 2 nex_station_11941354_1_10 2
NekonyancerBut we can't connect to just ANY pentagon! We have to draw along pre-established dotted lines. Dotted lines and pentagons... looks like we have [blue]*two options.*[/blue]7archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000nex_station_11941354_8_1 13 nex_station_11941354_1_3 13 nex_station_11941354_4_3 13 nex_station_11941354_6_3 13 nex_station_11941354_10_4 13 nex_station_11941354_2_6 13 nex_station_11941354_5_6 2 nex_station_11941354_7_7 2 nex_station_11941354_10_7 13 nex_station_11941354_1_8 13 nex_station_11941354_7_9 13 nex_station_11941354_1_10 13
NekonyancerLet's connect to [blue]*this one.*[/blue] *1.* Click on the pink station (The pink line's home station). *2.* Click on this [blue]*pentagon station.*[/blue]1nex_station_11941354_7_7646c61789ec5d10nex_station_11941354_7_7 2
Nekonyancer*Great!* The old station card went away, and [green]*new card*[/green] zoomed in to replace it. Do you see the long column of shapes? This column shows all the cards in the station card deck. An *X* was drawn over this icon [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed1e543be6.64493209.jpg[/img] to show that we've already seen the pink pentagon card. We won't see it again this round!1nex_ministation_4_std646c61dce239900nex_card_station_current 3
NekonyancerWe need to connect to a *circle* station this round! *Draw a connection between [red]this pentagon station[/red] and [blue]this circle station![/blue]*2nex_station_11941354_8_6646c61dce239910nex_station_11941354_8_6 2 nex_station_11941354_7_7 1
Nekonyancer[blue]Next turn! There are two special icons on this card![/blue] [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed1e73cdb9.14567971.jpg[/img] We can connect to *any shape* this turn! You're usually not allowed to draw a second line along the same path as another line... [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed1e8a6a78.26139903.jpg[/img] But this icon let's us temporarily *ignore* that rule!1nex_card_station_current646c61f27f46a00nex_card_station_current 2
NekonyancerThere's another line that was built in Tokyo before we arrived - [green]*the Green Line.*[/green] We can build alongside it this turn because of that second special icon I mentioned! *Draw a connection from the [red]circle station[/red] to [blue]the square station![/blue]*1nex_station_11941354_9_5646c620d66e8210nex_station_11941354_8_4 2 nex_station_11941354_8_6 1
NekonyancerUp until now, we've been adding new connections to one end of our line, but they can be added to either end! This time, let's build draw from the other end. *Select the pink station we started at. Then draw a connection to [blue]this station![/blue]*1nex_station_11941354_7_7646c621901b7810nex_station_11941354_6_7 2
NekonyancerNext, I need to explain [blue]*station powers.*[/blue] All players have access to the same power, but this power will be exchanged for a new one each round. This round, it's the *Railroad Switch* power. It lets us draw a new connection branching off the middle of our line, instead of one of the ends!1nex_specialstation_3646c623f32a4400nex_card_station_current 3 nex_specialstation_3 7
NekonyancerDo you see the bouncing triangle attached to the top-right corner of the card? Whenever the [green]*station card*[/green] shape matches that bouncing shape, we can use the station power!2nex_specialstation_3646c623f32a4400nex_card_station_current 3
Nekonyancer*Draw a connection from [red]here[/red] to [blue]here.[/blue]* Again, this is only possible because the Station Power (Railroad Switch) is active this turn.3nex_station_11941354_9_7646c623f32a4410nex_station_11941354_8_6 1 nex_station_11941354_9_7 2
Nekonyancer[blue]Alright, I think you've seen enough of the gameplay.[/blue] When all the [green]green cards[/green] in the station deck have been played, the round will end. That means each round can last anywhere from *5 turns* to *10 turns!* I'll fast-forward to the end of the round now...1nex_ministation_1_underground646c62955255100nex_ministation_0_underground 3 nex_ministation_1_underground 3 nex_ministation_4_underground 3
Nekonyancer[red]Oh, one more thing to note here:[/red] Sometimes a [red]*Railroad Switch*[/red] tile will pop up on the station card. Just like the current [blue]*station power,*[/blue] this allows players to create a branching path this turn. Now where was I? Right, the end of the round...1nex_ministation_TMP_std646c62e04fa9400nex_ministation_TMP_std 1 nex_specialstation_3 2
NekonyancerOkay, all five [green]*green cards*[/green] were played, so we advanced to the next round! [red]There are 3 things to note:[/red] *1.* We are now drawing a [blue]*new line,*[/blue] which will start from [blue]*the station of the matching color.*[/blue]1nex_movingpencil_blue646c62fb9771200nex_ministation_0_underground 3 nex_ministation_1_underground 3 nex_ministation_2_underground 3 nex_ministation_3_underground 3 nex_ministation_4_underground 3 nex_movingpencil_blue 2 nex_station_11941354_2_8 2
Nekonyancer*2.* [blue]*The station power*[/blue] was replaced. When triggered, this one will allow stations to count double for scoring purposes. [green]We'll go into scoring soon![/green]2nex_specialstation_6646c62fb9771200nex_specialstation_6 2
Nekonyancer*3.* The [green]*station deck*[/green] was reshuffled, so it's ready for the next round. [green]After four rounds, everyone's scores will be finalized, and whoever has the most points will win![/green]3nex_ministation_1_underground646c62fb9771200nex_card_station_current 3 nex_ministation_5_std 3 nex_ministation_0_std 3 nex_ministation_1_std 3 nex_ministation_2_std 3 nex_ministation_3_std 3 nex_ministation_4_std 3 nex_ministation_0_underground 3 nex_ministation_1_underground 3 nex_ministation_2_underground 3 nex_ministation_3_underground 3 nex_ministation_4_underground 3
NekonyancerBefore I get into scoring, click on the [red]*scorecard*[/red] in your player info panel. This will enlarge it so we can get a closer look. Did you enlarge it? Great!4nex_scorepad_11941354646c62fb9771200nex_scorepad_11941354 1
Nekonyancer[green]Scoring Category 1: Lines[/green]---Line points are based on *districts,* which are the parts of your board that are separated by *yellow lines.* Your line score is equal to... [green]The number of districts your line passes through[/green] TIMES [blue]The largest number of stations your line passed through in a *single district.*[/blue]5nex_score_length_11941354_1646c62fb9771200nex_score_hood_11941354_1 3 nex_score_length_11941354_1 2
NekonyancerIn this case, our pink line passed through *6* districts. The largest number of stations in a single district is [blue]*3.*[/blue] That means we scored [red]*18 points*[/red] for the pink line!6nex_metropad_11941354646c62fb9771200nex_station_11941354_6_6 7 nex_station_11941354_6_7 7 nex_station_11941354_7_7 7
Nekonyancer[green]Scoring Category 2: Interchanges[/green]---An interchange is a station that connects to *at least two lines.* Each *[red]3-line[/red]/[blue]4-line[/blue]/[green]5-line[/green]* interchange station grants [red]*5[/red]/[blue]15[/blue]/[green]30[/green]* points!7nex_scorepad_11941354646c62fb9771200nex_score_hub_11941354_2 1 nex_score_hub_11941354_3 2 nex_score_hub_11941354_4 3
NekonyancerThe pre-established green line is valid for making interchanges, so [blue]*these two stations*[/blue] just need one more connection each to start racking up points!8nex_station_11941354_8_6646c62fb9771200nex_station_11941354_8_4 2 nex_station_11941354_8_6 2
Nekonyancer[green]Scoring Category 3: Tourist Stamps[/green]---It's easy to create interchanges in the middle of Tokyo, but creating interchanges in the outskirts grants more points, as shown by the chart in the middle of your scorecard!9nex_scorepad_11941354646c62fb9771200nex_score_hood_11941354_2 9 nex_score_hub_11941354_3 14
NekonyancerAccording to that chart, creating an interchange station at one of [blue]*these locations*[/blue] is worth an extra five points! Interchanges at [red]*these locations*[/red] are worth an extra ten! Though central interchanges don't start granting points until their third line, you only need *two* lines to qualify for a tourist stamp!10nex_metropad_11941354646c62fb9771200nex_station_11941354_1_1 1 nex_station_11941354_2_1 2 nex_station_11941354_4_1 2 nex_station_11941354_5_1 2 nex_station_11941354_6_1 2 nex_station_11941354_8_1 2 nex_station_11941354_10_1 1 nex_station_11941354_2_2 2 nex_station_11941354_8_2 2 nex_station_11941354_9_2 2 nex_station_11941354_10_2 2 nex_station_11941354_1_3 2 nex_station_11941354_10_4 2 nex_station_11941354_1_5 2 nex_station_11941354_10_6 2 nex_station_11941354_1_7 2 nex_station_11941354_10_7 2 nex_station_11941354_1_8 2 nex_station_11941354_2_8 2 nex_station_11941354_10_8 2 nex_station_11941354_1_9 2 nex_station_11941354_2_9 2 nex_station_11941354_8_9 2 nex_station_11941354_9_9 2 nex_station_11941354_1_10 1 nex_station_11941354_4_10 2 nex_station_11941354_6_10 2 nex_station_11941354_10_10 1
Nekonyancer[green]Scoring Category 4: Green Line Stations[/green]---This category is straightforward. As shown *here* (see arrows), each green line station you DON'T connect to with at least one other line incurs a 3-point penalty at the end of the game.11nex_score_hub_total_11941354646c62fb9771200nex_score_total_11941354_4 9 nex_score_obj_total_11941354 14
NekonyancerWe've already connected to [red]*these two stations,*[/red] but we'll have to connect to [blue]*these other ones too*[/blue] if we want to avoid those penalties!12nex_station_11941354_8_6646c62fb9771200nex_station_11941354_4_3 2 nex_station_11941354_5_3 2 nex_station_11941354_6_3 2 nex_station_11941354_8_4 1 nex_station_11941354_8_6 1 nex_station_11941354_3_7 2 nex_station_11941354_8_7 2 nex_station_11941354_4_8 2
Nekonyancer[green]Scoring Category 5: Objectives[/green]---If you toggle these on in the lobby options, there will be two objectives shown [blue]*here.*[/blue] You can hover over them to see what they are. Each objective you complete by the end of the game is worth ten points. The bonuses are written [red]*here*[/red] on the scorecard.13nex_objective_4646c62fb9771200nex_objective_5 2 nex_objective_4 2 nex_score_obj_11941354_1 1 nex_score_obj_11941354_2 1
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Next Station: Tokyo!*[/blue] If you have any questions about the tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message! A big thank you goes out to *darhf* and *lordalx* for bringing this game to BGA! Have fun! :D14archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment646c62fb9771200
