NekonyancerYou play as *two teams* of two players each. You win and lose as a team, supporting each other and planning together. However, when it comes to your families, you lead independently. If you *scroll down* a bit, you'll find a large map of Sicily, divided into twelve Mandimenti (regions). Each Mandimento is split into three areas, all of the same color.2maintitlebar_content

NekonyancerThroughout the game, players will move *Soldati* into areas to control them. When a player controls two of a Mandimento's three areas, they gain control of the whole Mandimento! NekonyancerAt the beginning of the game, players must *choose their positions* around the board. This will determine turn order, as well as who is on which team. The two players at the *top* of the board will be on a team, as will the two at the *bottom.*4maintitlebar_content

NekonyancerIt looks like *nekonekoneko4* and *nekonekoneko5* already selected the top-left and top-right positions, so they'll play together. NekonyancerNext, each player must choose a *family board.* Each family comes with a different collection of order tokens. For now, don't worry too much about the different families. NekonyancerNext, one person on each team is given two random *Character Cards.* They must choose one of them, gaining whatever benefits are shown on it. The other card will be given to their ally. You might need to *scroll up* to see the cards. NekonyancerNext, if you look at the map again, you'll see that BGA covered it in various colored cubes, representing *Soldati.* We chose the blue family, so any area with blue cubes in it is under our control. At this point, we must add [blue]*4 more Soldati*[/blue] to areas we control (because the character we selected lets us add 4). NekonyancerNext, we have to place our three *Drug Labs* on areas we control. Nekonyancer[blue]On our turn, we must perform one of the following:[/blue] *1. Use an action space* by moving an influence token from the *top* action sheet to a space on the *bottom* sheet and performing whatever action is indicated on that space. *2. Gain Influence* by moving *all* influence tokens from a column in the top sheet to the bottom and performing all the actions shown above the column. We can use *any* token(s) for this, but if we move an opponent's token, we have to pay them 1 Lira!2maintitlebar_content

Nekonyancer*Good!* Before we go over what that action space does, let's go over the *cost.* Most action spaces have a number in the top-left corner. If it's in a *black* circle, we must *pay* lire to place a token there. If the circle is yellow, we instead *gain* lire.1laf-action-tableau-46-wrapper

NekonyancerIn this case, we paid 1 Lira. NekonyancerAlright, now for the effects of the space. There are two of them, with a "+" in between. That means we can perform *both* of them. NekonyancerWhen we place Soldati, they don't simply appear out of nowhere. They have to be moved from our *Headquarters.* Are you looking at the main board? If so, you should see a [red]*tab*[/red] on the left side. If you click on it, you'll see that we have plenty of Soldati there. NekonyancerThe discs on the right half of our family board are organized into four rows. NekonyancerRight now, the relevant row is the [red]*police,*[/red] which controls how many Soldati we can place at a time. Remember the two influence tokens we placed during setup? NekonyancerIn this case, we're using a space with +1 on it. Nekonyancer*Next turn!* This time, instead of moving a single token and triggering an action space, let's use the *gain influence* action, which involves moving an entire column of tokens to trigger every action above the column. This can only be done in columns that have at least 1 token left.1maintitlebar_content

NekonyancerI have my eye on the leftmost column, which only has [red]*one token*[/red] left in it. We'll move that token to the bottom, then trigger both of [blue]*these effects.*[/blue] We will *not* trigger the effects of the action space we place the token on.2laf-action-tableau-2-wrapper

NekonyancerUnfortunately, the cost of gaining influence is pretty steep! It costs... • whatever is shown just above the tokens • 1 Lire per token moved. In this case, the column we're looking at is marked with a [red]*"1"*[/red] and there's 1 token in it, so the action will cost 2 Lire total. NekonyancerOur token in the bottom-right corner has the next lowest initiative number! It shows that we can recruit Soldati (2+2 were added to our Headquarters) and place a *car* in the same area. *Click on the highlighted area. Then [blue]confirm.[/blue]*1laf-area-22-orderTokens-2-1

NekonyancerOkay, time for some excitement. Our token in [red]*Villarosa*[/red] was just triggered, and it has an attack effect! That particular attack - indicated by dynamite - is called a *Strike.* We can select any area that is *adjacent* to (touching) the area our token is in. We will then deal however much damage is shown on our token. In this case, 3!1laf-area-18-orderTokens-3-1

NekonyancerEach point of damage results in one Soldati being removed from the targeted area. However, this damage can be mitigated by *body armor* or *drug labs.* Each drug lab in the targeted area adds *1* defense.2laf-area-18-orderTokens-3-1

NekonyancerLet's strike [red]*Camastra,*[/red] which is to the *south* of Villarosa. Our opponent has 2 Soldati there. Our Strike will deal 3 damage, but 1 damage will be blocked by a drug lab. Nekonyancer*Excellent!* Camastra is now empty! By the way, if we had a car in this area, we could have used it to turn our *Strike* into a *Car Bomb.* This would destroy the car, but it would increase our damage! In our case, a car would have increased our damage by *+3,* as you can see on our family board. NekonyancerThere's one more effect on our [red]*Order token.*[/red] We can place Soldati. We have plenty of Soldati in our Headquarters, so why not? *Click on the Villarosa area three times. Then [blue]confirm.[/blue]*2laf-area-18-orderTokens-3-1

NekonyancerNote that our Order Token in Villarosa was returned to our Headquarters! This is because we finished resolving all of its effects. NekonyancerBy the way, if there had been an Order token in *Camastra* when we attacked, it would have returned to our opponent's Headquarters when they lost control of it, whether it had been activated already or not.2laf-area-18-orderTokens-3-1

NekonyancerOkay, time for another attack. This token has a shotgun on it, indicating *movement.* We can select any number of Soldati in this area and move them into any adjacent area. Also, if there's an allied *speedboat* in the adjacent ocean area, they can move into any area adjacent to that ocean area.1laf-area-32-orderTokens-2-1

NekonyancerIn this case, our Soldati can move to one of four different areas. [red]*Three*[/red] can be simply walked to. NekonyancerSpeedboats can also work together to provide even more mobility! NekonyancerIn this case though, we won't need any speedboats. We're marching northeast, to Barcellona. Nekonyancer*1.* Select *5* of the 6 Soldati in Capo di Orlando. *2.* Select *Barcellona* (northeast) as our destination. We should bring the car. It will increase our attack power! *3.* Click on *"Attack with🚗"* at the top!5laf-area-29-drugLabs-1-2

Nekonyancer[blue]Okay, our Soldati moved in![/blue] If that area already belonged to us or were unoccupied, the action would have ended there. Since it belongs to an opponent, a 3-step combat process was begun! [red]The three steps are:[/red] *1.* Attack and Defense bonuses. *2.* Conflict. *3.* Knockout.1maintitlebar_content

Nekonyancer*Step 1: Attack and Defense bonuses* This part is the same as the *Strike* we went through earlier. BGA will count up all our attack bonuses (anything with a skull), subtract our opponent's defense bonuses, and inflict damage. You've probably already noticed the attack bonus on our order token. NekonyancerBut that's not the only bonus we have! We're also bringing along our car. According to the exposed icons on our Family Board, our car will add another 2 damage. NekonyancerUnfortunately, our opponent put an order token in Barcellona that provides [red]*1 defense.*[/red] [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img69da875d79fe49.97571512.jpg[/img] There's also a drug lab in Barcellona, providing another 1 defense. [red]3 damage[/red] - [blue]2 defense[/blue] = 1 casualty! BGA actually went through this on its own. When we moved our Soldati in, 1 of the opponent's Soldati was removed.4maintitlebar_content

NekonyancerIf all of the opponent's Soldati were removed in that step, the combat would end there, but in this case, they still have quite a few left! We have to continue to *Step 2: Conflict.* As the attacker, we must choose to use either *finesse* or *brute force.* [blue]You should be able to see those two options at the top right now![/blue]5maintitlebar_content

NekonyancerIf we use *brute force,* we'll simply remove two of our attacking Soldati from the board. As you might expect, *finesse* is slightly more complicated. I'll explain more in a moment. *Click on [blue]"Use finesse"[/blue] at the top!*6maintitlebar_content

NekonyancerWhen a player uses Finesse, the attacking and defending players must both select a card and place it *face down* on the table. Each player has the same three options in their hand: *Coward I, Coward II, and Turncoat.* You can hover over each card with your mouse to see what they do.1maintitlebar_content

NekonyancerAfter both players have selected a card, the attacking player will choose which player the defending player's card will apply to. Then the defending player will do the same for the attacking player's card. Finally, both cards will be revealed! NekonyancerOur opponent decided to have our card apply to ourselves. That means *both* cards applied to us. We played a *Turncoat,* causing one of our opponent's Soldati to be replaced by one of ours. Our opponent played a *Coward I,* which sent one of our Soldati back to our Headquarters. After those cards were resolved, we were left with *5* Soldati, and our opponent was left with *4.*1maintitlebar_content

NekonyancerSince we both still had Soldati remaining, we advanced to *Step 3: Knockout.* [green][tip] If we had chosen Brute Force, we still would have moved onto the Knockout step after removing 2 of our Soldati.[/green] In the Knockout Step, each Soldati knocks out one opposing Soldati. Whoever has more Soldati will emerge victorious!2maintitlebar_content

NekonyancerIf the losing side has a *car* - whether they are attacking or defending - the car is returned to the player's headquarters. If the attacker successfully takes control of the area, 1 *drug lab* is destroyed.3maintitlebar_content

Nekonyancer[blue]There two important things to note when attacking neutral areas:[/blue] *1.* Whenever we remove a neutral Soldati from the board, we add a Soldati to our Headquarters. You can think of this as "persuading" them to join our cause. *2.* If we choose "Finesse" in the Conflict step, one of our opponents will select a card for the neutral force.2laf-area-29-orderTokens-2-1

NekonyancerSince we attacked with the car, we had an attack bonus of 2. There were no defense bonuses, so we immediately removed 2 opposing Soldati... which was all of them! NekonyancerThe huge enemy force to the south is a big problem, but for now, we have control of this Mandimento as well! That was the last order token! But before we end the Encounter Phase start the next round, we need to select *control tiles.*2laf-mandamento-controlToken-10-2-2

At the end of each *Phase* (Planning or Encounter), BGA will check to see if the number of active tiles *matches* the number of Mandimenti we control. If it doesn't, we must *activate* or *deactivate* tiles to make them match! Take a moment to examine the tiles. If the text is too small to read, you may want to *hover* over them with your mouse.4maintitlebar_content

Nekonyancer[blue]The next round has begun![/blue] If you scroll back up to the board, you'll find that the *bottom* action sheet - with all the influence tokens still on it - was moved up to replace the *top* sheet. A new bottom sheet was revealed! If you look closely, you'll see that the actions we have access to this round are more *powerful* than the ones in the previous round.1maintitlebar_content

Nekonyancer[blue]Okay, you've seen enough of the gameplay![/blue] There are just a couple of important tidbits I wasn't able to squeeze in earlier. First of all, let's get back to *speedboats,* which we never got a chance to use. They can be placed adjacent to any area we control and then can immediately move to an adjacent ocean area. Each area can only accommodate two boats. Whenever a *third* boat moves into an area, its owner must remove it from the board, along with 1 other boat from the same area. NekonyancerNext, let's go back to our [red]*Family Board.*[/red] You may have noticed that the four rows of influence tokens have vertical lines going through them, creating *A, B,* and *C* sections. Whenever we remove a token from a new section, we add the corresponding order token to our Headquarters.3maintitlebar_content

NekonyancerFor instance, the [red]*next token*[/red] in the Justice row is in the A section. When we remove that token, we will add [blue]*this token*[/blue] (which is marked as Justice A) to our Headquarters. These unlockable order tokens are much stronger than the ones we started with!4maintitlebar_content

NekonyancerSpeaking of orders, you may have noticed that there's a *"Sell order token"* button at the top. It allows us to remove an order token from our Headquarters *permanently* to gain 1 Lira. You probably shouldn't use it too much.5generalactions

Nekonyancer[green]Okay, that's everything![/green] Next, I'll go through a quick recap. *Planning Phase:* we either... • move a token from the top action sheet to the bottom and execute an action OR • move all tokens in a column to the bottom and execute actions at the top. This continues until all tokens are on the bottom.6maintitlebar_content

Nekonyancer*Encounter Phase:* all order tokens on the board are revealed and resolved one at a time. When Soldati move into an area controlled by an opposing force, it triggers a 3-step combat: *1.* Attack/defense bonuses. *2.* Conflict (attacker chooses finesse or brute force). *3.* Knockout. (Soldati knock each other out until only one force remains!)7maintitlebar_content

NekonyancerWhen a player controls two of a Mandimento's three areas, they gain control of the whole Mandimento, which lets them activate a Control Tile. [green]When one player controls five Mandimenti or their team controls a total of six, that team wins![/green]8maintitlebar_content
