haydukeWelcome to Haggis!
Haggis is a card game where the goal is to collect cards by taking "tricks" and reaching the game points total before your opponent.
This tutorial will start by explaining the goal of Haggis and how to reach that goal.

haydukeThe Goal of Haggis:
The goal of Haggis is to reach a certain point total before your opponent. There are three ways to gain points:
- Empty your hand of all your cards first.
- Taking tricks.
- Making a bet and winning it by emptying your hand first.
* Next I will explain how to empty your hand.*2myhand_item_18000
hayduke*Emptying your hand:*
To empty your hand you have to play a valid set of cards.
Valid sets:
- A sequence of three or more cards of the same color (red 3 4 5).
- A pair, triplet, quad, and so on (red 3 3 3; green 4 4).
- A bomb (explained more later).
*Let's jump right into the game and see what happens).*
Note - The cards values range from 2 (lowest), to K (highest, the card with the crown). The three face cards, J Q K are *wild* and can be used in any combination. Your hand will always have the three face cards.

hayduke*Making a Bet*:
The first thing you do every round is make a bet. You are betting on who empties their hand first.
- This bet is won if you empty your hand before your opponent.
- If you are not able to win your bet, the points you bet go to your opponent.
- Both players in this first round make a little bet by click the *Little Bet* link.

hayduke*First Play*:
The red player leads the round. They play a sequence of three cards.
The orange player *must* "follow suit,” or play the same kind and number of sequence. In this case, a sequence of three cards that are in a row. But not only that, they must also play a *higher value sequence*.
The yellow player follows suit by playing the red 7 8 J cards from their hand.

hayduke*Wild Cards*:
This leads us to *wild cards*. Each player has three *wild cards* at the beginning of each round.
*Wild Cards* are the three face cards (J Q K).
These wild cards can be used to replace any card in a sequence.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6222d52d3f0d400combocards_2_item_15 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9zbmlwYm9hcmQuaW9fQWlSZG1mLmpwZw==/0/0
hayduke*Taking the Trick*:
The red player plays their sequence of three cards. If the orange player can't play or doesn't want to play a valid sequence, they can pass.
When a player passes, their opponent captures the cards played so far (takes the *trick*). The person who takes the trick (when not playing a *bomb*) leads the next play.
*Next I will explain points gained from taking the trick.*

hayduke*Points from the Trick*:
Certain cards that you gain are worth points:
- 2-4-6-8-10 = 0 points.
- 3-5-7-9 = 1 point.
- J = 2 points, Q = 3 points, K = 5 points.
The yellow player captured 3-4-5 and 7-8-J.
The means 1(3) + 0(4) + 1(5) + 1(7) + 0(8) + 2(J) = 7.
I will next explain a *bomb* and end round scoring.1ttcard_point_icon_7871136222d559e30fa00
hayduke*A Bomb*:
A *bomb* is a valid set of cards that when played does not have to follow suit. Valid *bombs* are as follows:
- 3-5-7-9 (in 4 different colors, "rainbow bomb")
- J-Q
- J-K
- Q-K
- J-Q-K
- 3-5-7-9 (in one color, "suited bomb")
!!! When a *bomb* is played, your opponent takes the trick (and the points!) but the player who played the *bomb* leads the next play. !!!

hayduke*Playing Out the Round and Scoring*:
The round continues until a players empies their hand by playing their last card.
When this happens:
- The player who emptied their hand gets the points from their bet *and* the bet of their opponent (the opponent gets 0).
- The player who emptied their hand also gets 5 points for each card in their opponent's hand.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6222d60e7cf8600
hayduke*Start of the Next Round and End Game *:
After scoring, the next round will start. Each player will choose a bid again and the person who did not empty their hand last round will play first.
The rounds will continue until someone reaches the points goal.
That's it!
