ClutronWelcome to the Cloud City tutorial! Cloud City is a city building game where you will connect walkways on matching color buildings to gain the most points. The longer the walkway the more points it's worth. Let's get to the table.1popin_startDialogId_contents000
ClutronRight here is the opening screen of the game telling you the city size (in this case 3 by 3), and if the upgraded model cards are being used are not. For your first game I would play with the above settings to learn the game, then add in others as you get a feel for it. Click the *X* in the top right corner of this dialog to close it before moving on.2popin_startDialogId_contents000
ClutronThis here is the main play area, notice that this is one of the few games on BGA played in 3D. You can click and hold your mouse button on the city area to turn and rotate your view of the city so you can make the best placements.3my_game_area000
ClutronOver here are your hand of tiles that you will place from on your turn. Note that the three different colored buildings are different heights. [blue]Blue buildings[/blue] are height 1, [green]Green buildings[/green] are height 2, and [red]Orange buildings[/red] are height 3. Keep these heights in mind when placing tiles because the taller building will block walkways on shorter buildings.4myhand_item_47000
ClutronOver here is the tile supply. Once you place a tile you will pick a new one from here. You will be able to pick either one of the face up tiles, or the top tile from the face down stack.5tiledisplay_item_42000
ClutronAnd last, here at the bottom, is the walkway supply. Each color building has a set of walkways, and each walkway is worth a different number of points. From length 1 to 3 they are worth their length in points, but a 4 length walkway is worth 5 points, and a 5 length walkway is worth 8 points. So it pays to plan ahead to get those longer walkways.6blue_fives000
ClutronAlso notice that each walkway has a number to their right, that is how many of that walkway is left in the supply. If a supply of walkways runs out, then no more of that size and color can be placed, meaning lost opportunities for points. So claim those big ones quick! I will tell you how we determine the length of walkway later, let's get to playing.7blue_fives000
ClutronLet's place our first tile. Go ahead and select the highlighted tile, and place it so it lines up like this picture shows. You may have to rotate it. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ec3a159471.99662961.jpg[/img] Then click *Confirm Tile Placement* at the top8tilestack010placeTile_button 16 myhand_item_47 1
ClutronNow that the new buildings have been placed, you will see that a gray bar has appeared, indicating we can place a new walkway. Go ahead and click that to place the walkway.1myhand_item_2061cc939e443d711
ClutronWe got 3 points for a 3 length walkway, way to go! How we determined the length of the walkway is by counting the number of squares to get from one building to the next. For example: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ec3a3cb678.34376940.jpg[/img] Each tile is made up of 4 squares, and all buildings are only 1 square in size.1myhand_item_2061cc93a1a2a7401
ClutronNow let's get a new tile. None of the face up look particularly appealing so lets get a random one from the stack. Either click the stack of face down tiles above, or the *Take Random* button to take a face down tile. You will also notice a *Restart Turn* button at that top. Use that on a turn if you think you might have spotted a better way to score points.3tiledisplay_item_4261cc93a1a2a7410
ClutronIf you ever want to see what other people's cities look like, you can click on the *View City* button of their player area. The city that you are looking at will have the eye next to it darkened so you know whose you are looking at. Let's skip ahead to our next turn.1player_board_4995631561cc9467331dd00
ClutronIt's our turn now, go ahead and place the tile like it's shown in the picture and then click *Confirm Tile Placement*. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ec3a5f13b2.43835575.jpg[/img]1myhand_item_2061ccfecadefe010placeTile_button 16 myhand_item_19 1
ClutronAwesome, that's the longest walkway we can make and it will get us 8 points! Go ahead and place that walkway.1myhand_item_2061cdb595303cd10
ClutronI think we can do something more with the blue and green buildings. Go ahead and select this top tile as our new tile.1tiledisplay_item_461cdb5994568f10
ClutronNotice this walkway supply just turned orange, that's because there is only one more 5 length walkway left for the orange buildings. After that is taken, no more walkways of that length and color can be built. Let's continue to our turn and place our next tile.1orange_sixes61cdcd54504a500
ClutronLet's place our next tile. Select the highlighted one and align it like the picture shows, then confirm it. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ec3a84b684.76978564.jpg[/img]1myhand_item_1461ce2ffa1257a10placeTile_button 16 myhand_item_4 1
ClutronGreat! Because of our placement, we can place a walkway on both the green and the blue buildings. Notice the blue walkway can go under the green one, that's because walkways on buildings of different heights don't block each other.1myhand_item_2061d04dfa1b5a101
ClutronThis also brings us to two final rules for placing walkways: -You can only ever have two walkways connected to any single building. That means the center green building can no longer have any walkways connected to it -You can't place a walkway over an open area with no building tile Let's go ahead and place our walkways, start with the [blue]blue[/blue] one.2myhand_item_2061d04dfa1b5a111
ClutronNow the [green]green[/green] one.1myhand_item_2061d04dfda749111
ClutronNow to take a new tile, let's take the bottom one.1tiledisplay_item_4161d04e011e76b10
ClutronAnd that's it for the rules! In a game you would continue to play tiles until you have filled in the entire 3x3 grid. At that point whoever has the most points is the winner. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any additional questions you can access the full rules on the BGA page for this game. Have fun playing!1myhand_item_2061d04e143129d01
