BluePiecePlease[blue]* Name changes *[/blue] --- - The "robber" token has been renamed to "inspector" in this version of Catan. All their abilities remain the same. - "Wool" or "sheep" is known as "natural fiber". - "Ore" is known as "steel". - "Wheat" or "grain" is known as "food".3maintitlebar_content

BluePiecePlease[blue]* New feature #1: Science *[/blue] --- Science is a new resource type, only generated by cities when they produce a resource. When a dice roll matches a number on a hex, all cities on that hex produce that resource as well as 1 science for the player. BluePiecePlease[blue]* New feature #2: Power plants *[/blue] --- In the theme of "new energies," there are fossil fuel plants (brown) and renewable power plants (green) that you can build and add to towns and cities, available on your board. Using Science, you can build 1 plant of either kind on a town and up to 3 on a city. You can place both a fossil fuel plant and a renewable power plant on a city.5maintitlebar_content

BluePiecePlease[blue]* New feature #3: Energy *[/blue] --- When a town or city with a plant of either kind produces resources (because of a dice roll succeeding on a tile it touches), that town or city will also produce an Energy, which is stored in the middle of your player board. Cities with power plants produce both 1 science and a number of energies depending on the number of plants it has.6maintitlebar_content

BluePiecePlease[blue]* New feature #4: Warehouse *[/blue] --- You can spend 2 energy to build a warehouse once per game to raise your hand limit from 7 to 10. Then, when a 7 is rolled during the Production phase, you only need to discard half your hand if you have more than 10 cards (11+ cards).7maintitlebar_content

BluePiecePlease[blue]* New feature #5: Local and Global Environmental Footprints *[/blue] --- Under each item on your player board are cloud icons, either a green minus symbol (-) or a grey plus symbol (+). These icons denote adding or subtracting 1 from your "local environmental footprint" (LF). Adding all player's LFs is the "Global footprint" (GF). These numbers are used for events, which come next.8maintitlebar_content

BluePiecePlease[blue]* New feature #6: Event phase *[/blue] --- At the start of each player's turn, BGA will draw an amount of event discs based on the GF. Each disc gets placed in their corresponding stash on the edge of the board. Once all spaces in the stash are filled, that event is triggered. The stashes are highlighted with red boxes.9maintitlebar_content

BluePiecePlease*Types of events: Brown and green* Brown events add hazards or increase the global footprint track, which come next. Green events reward players who have invested in renewable energy or have a low LF. At the start of the game, there are only brown event discs in the draw pile. Building renewable power plants adds green discs to the pile.10maintitlebar_content

Hazards prevent towns, cities, and hexes from producing resources, but only once. They look like grey blobs covering the town, city, or number on the hex. After a hazard has blocked a town, city, or hex from producing a resource, the hazard is removed.11maintitlebar_content

BluePiecePlease*Hazards: Continued* You can't place a hazard on the same spot as the Inspector. To remove a hazard on your turn, you must spend 1 energy (generated by power plants).12maintitlebar_content

Welcome! :) [/blue] In this game, your goal is to be the first player to get 10 victory points (VPs) or if the game ends before anyone has 10 VPs, then you want to be the player who used the most renewable fuels.15maintitlebar_content

BluePiecePlease[blue]* Place your first town *[/blue] --- The first thing to do is have each player place a town and a road. Select here to place your first town. Towns and cities can be placed on any green circle, at the corners of hexes. 36maintitlebar_content

BluePiecePlease[blue]* Place your first road *[/blue] --- Select here to place your first road. Roads are always placed along the sides of hexes, and they must be connected to a town or city. To build a town or city, it must be on a road at least two lengths long. When placing your first road, you’re planning on the direction you’ll go to build a town in the future.2maintitlebar_content

BluePiecePlease[blue]* Next players set up: Placing towns and roads *[/blue] --- The next player placed their first town. They must place it at least two road lengths away from any other town or city. [tip] This is so the board doesn't get crowded, and you can use it as a way to stop other players from building in certain areas.1maintitlebar_content

BluePiecePlease[blue]* Next player sets up: Placing cities *[/blue] --- Once everyone's placed their first town and road, the player who went last goes first to place a city and another road. You can tell it’s a city because the token is bigger and it has 3 rounded edges for power plants, while towns only have 1. !!! Remember that these must be placed at least two road lengths away from any other town or city.1maintitlebar_content

BluePiecePlease[blue]* Place your first city *[/blue] --- Select here to place your first city. Like towns, cities produce resources. If the sum of the dice rolled is a 6, 3, or 9, this city will produce resources. A city is also worth 2 VP. Since this is the first time you're placing a city, you'll get one of each resource it touches, as well as 1 science (a resource only produced by cities).1ingame_menu_wheel

BluePiecePlease[tip] Since you'll need all kinds of materials to build towns, cities, and roads (like we saw on the Player Boards), it's common to diversify your resource hexes during set up. You could also get a lot of one resource and trade for resources you don't have.5maintitlebar_content

BluePiecePlease[blue]* Place your second road and start the game! *[/blue] --- After all players have placed their first town, city, and 2 roads, the game starts automatically. The last player to place a city goes first. In this case, that's you! Place your second road at the indicator and the game will start automatically. 6ingame_menu_wheel

BluePiecePlease[blue]* On your turn *[/blue] --- Player turns have four phases: 1. Event (handled by BGA) 2. Production (handled by BGA) 3. Action (you get choices) 4. End of turn (BGA checks if the game ended, if not, the next player starts with the event phase again!) Let’s go through these steps together.1maintitlebar_content

BluePiecePlease[blue]* Event phase *[/blue] --- At the start of every player’s turn, BGA draws the number of event discs shown, which right now is 9. That animation has already happened. In real life, discs would be drawn from a bag. The bag starts with 43 brown event discs. 2maintitlebar_content

BluePiecePleaseThe Global Footprint (GF) number 9 comes from adding every player's Local Footprint (LF), which you can view on the cloud icons on their overview cards. BluePiecePleaseWhen you build towns and cities, cloud icons with plus symbols (+) will be revealed on your player board. Building other things will reveal minus symbols (-). To get your LF number, add all your revealed symbols together.4maintitlebar_content

BluePiecePleaseWhen a disc is drawn, it gets added to the corresponding stash along the edge of the board, but the event doesn't happen yet. If you draw a disc and it finishes the stash, *then* the event is triggered. 5maintitlebar_content

BluePiecePleaseBrown events add hazards or increase the GF number. Green events reward players who have invested in renewable energy. At the start of the game, there are only brown event discs in the draw pile.6maintitlebar_content

BluePiecePlease[blue]* Production phase *[/blue] --- Next, BGA will roll 2 six-sided dice. Any hex with that number on it produces that resource. BGA automatically gives resources to the right players.11maintitlebar_content

BluePiecePleaseSince a 2 was rolled and no one has a town or city on the hex with a 2, nothing was produced.12maintitlebar_content

BluePiecePlease[blue]* Action phase *[/blue] --- Now you get to choose what to do. During your action phase, you can: 1. Build something with resources. 2. Trade with other players for resources. 3. Pass your turn. You can do as many actions as you want in any order. BGA will never pass your turn for you, since you can always trade.13maintitlebar_content

BluePiecePleaseBecause this is the first turn of the game and you don't have many resources, select "Pass" to end your turn.14maintitlebar_content

BluePiecePlease[blue]* End of turn phase *[/blue] --- After you end your turn, BGA will check if any players have 10 VPs. If not, game play continues. Note: The game will also end if someone needs to draw a disc during the Event phase but there are no discs left to draw. 15maintitlebar_content

BluePiecePleaseYou can build power plants just like roads or settlements.1maintitlebar_content

BluePiecePleaseFossil fuel power plants are cheaper to build, but they add to your LF and they don't add any discs to the Event disc bag. They do generate energy just like renewable power plants, though.2maintitlebar_content

BluePiecePleaseBecause a 7 was rolled, the purple player will get to move the Inspector, the small figure on the desert tile with no number. They move the Inspector to cover a number, which means: - They get one random resource from a player of their choice that has a settlement on that hex. - That hex won't produce any resources until the Inspector is moved (another 7 is rolled, or a card is played).1maintitlebar_content

BluePiecePleaseOn your turn, you can also "build" development cards. Development cards can let you move the Inspector, take more resources, relocate buildings / roads, or get VPs. You can have as many development cards as you want. To build a development card, you need 1 food, 1 natural fiber, and 1 steel.
