NekonyancerWelcome to Backgammon, an abstract game with thousands of years of history! In Backgammon, your goal is to get all your checkers off the board by moving them with dice.1free-repository_top001
NekonyancerEach turn, two dice will be rolled. You can apply each die to a checker and move them along the board. If you like, both dice can be applied to a single checker.2dice_1000dice_1 1 dice_2 1
NekonyancerYou will be moving COUNTER-CLOCKWISE. That means your checkers at the TOP of the board will move to the left. When they get to the top left corner, they will hop down to the bottom half of the board and continue moving to the right. 3free-repository_top001token_2 14 token_7 14 token_12 10 token_14 9 token_20 9
NekonyancerYour opponent's checkers will move in the opposite direction, CLOCKWISE.4free-repository_top001token_5 9 token_11 9 token_13 15 token_17 14 token_23 14
NekonyancerLooks like we rolled 1 and 3!5dice_1000
NekonyancerLet's get moving! Go ahead and click on this column. Three diamonds should appear next to it. They show spaces you can move a checker to. Since we rolled 1 and 3, you can move one space, three spaces, or four spaces (sum of 1 and 3.) Click on the first diamond (or the area just above it) to *move a checker one space.*6token_19010token_19 16 token_20 6
NekonyancerGreat! Next we have to use our other die: a 3. Let's move a checker *3 spaces* from this column over here, so it joins the checker we just moved!1token_1761bfbbc599dc010token_17 16 token_20 6
NekonyancerGreat job! Moving both checkers to this same column was a good idea because it prevents the opponent from moving here. If a checker is alone in a column, your opponent can move a checker onto yours and *knock it out!* (more on this later) If you want to be safe, make sure every checker has a buddy or two!1token_2061bfbbc7dded300token_20 1
NekonyancerLooks like your opponent had the same idea, moving two checkers to the same space to keep them safe! Now, let's skip forward a turn or two...1token_361bfd5d4d5c7900token_3 1
NekonyancerUh oh. The opponent rolled 4 and 6. That's not good. Brace for impact!1free-repository_top61bff0b06c57301
NekonyancerDid you see that? We had one checker by itself here. The opponent just moved onto it and knocked it out!!1token_1461bff88fae2a900token_14 1
NekonyancerOur poor checker is now here in the middle column, waiting to get back into the game.2token_2561bff88fae2a900token_25 1
NekonyancerIf one of your checkers is knocked out, you have to spend your next die on that checker, getting it back into the game! We rolled 5 and 6. If we used 6, we would move six spaces back onto the board, starting from Hand 1. Unfortunately, if you count over six spaces, that will land you on Hand 2, where our opponent has four checkers! That means it's BLOCKED!3free_hintarea_top61bff88fae2a900free_hintarea_top 17 token_6 18 dice_2 1
NekonyancerLuckily, the column just next to it is open. We can use our 5 to move our checker into that space. Go ahead and click on it!4token_561bff88fae2a910token_5 16
NekonyancerAck! They knocked us out again! But we got some good luck to counter the bad: we rolled doubles! When you roll the same number with both dice, you get FOUR dice with those numbers instead of two! We can use these four 1s to get our own checker back in and get some revenge while we're at it!1player_board_1194135461c010a1c6d3d01dice_1 1 dice_2 1 dice_3 1 dice_4 1
NekonyancerFirst, let's use one of the dice to get our checker back in by clicking here. You always have to get checkers back in before doing anything else!2token_161c010a1c6d3d10token_1 16
NekonyancerNext, let's get some revenge! Move one checker from here to knock out the opponent's checker!1token_2361c027e10ca6c10token_23 16 token_24 6
NekonyancerGreat! But now we have two checkers that are alone. Let's keep them safe by keeping them together! Move this checker one space.1token_2361c027f7c433110token_23 16 token_24 6
NekonyancerWe have one move left, and we have to take it. Remember, we don't want any of our checkers to be alone in a column if we can help it! Let's use that last move on a checker from this column. That way we won't have any vulnerable checkers!1token_1961c027fae647810token_19 16 token_20 6
NekonyancerWow! The opponent rolled *double sixes!* That's normally a very lucky roll! However, the opponent had to get his knocked-out checker back in, and 6 lines up with the highlighted column, which we blocked with two checkers! Since the opponent couldn't get his checker back in, his entire turn - all four 6s of it - was WASTED!1player_name_8395936061c028010b82801token_19 1
NekonyancerLooks like we rolled 4 and 1. Let's use both of them on the same checker to knock out another of your opponent's!3free-repository_top61c02801196d311token_5 16 token_10 1
NekonyancerNow the opponent has two checkers knocked out, and they rolled 4 and 5. Well, they can get one of the checkers in with the 4, but we blocked off the column that lines up with 5. That means that die is wasted! Again! 1dice_261c0297e0f9f500token_20 1 token_21 1
NekonyancerOnce you have all your checkers in the bottom right quadrant, you'll be ready to get them off the board! It should look like this: At that time, just move your checkers so that they end their movement one space OFF the board. They'll move into the little box to the right.1token_2561c073418fb7801free-repository_bottom 1
NekonyancerOnce all your checkers are off the board, you win! :)2token_2561c073418fb7801
NekonyancerI hope you enjoyed this tutorial for *Backgammon!* Now get out there and play some games!3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment61c073418fb7800
