Report history
The person who spent all their credits was the first player.
Two players started with 6 coins remaining, but a player with 0 coins was chosen as the start player.
Table #259350113 is the second example.
Happened to us. Person who spent the most went first. Perhaps it was because two of us (not the person who went first) tied, and it didn't include just the two of us who tied in the tie-breaker determination?
Happened to us in this game linked above.
What happened is: there were 2 players (HezikRoshi and equipollence) who "spent the least", remaining with 13 gold. But the starting player was selected as the player who had the highest deployed sector (who also spent the most).
I think there is a misinterpretation of the rules in "Light-Speed Variant" on page 28.
"The player who kept the most money goes first. In the case of a tie, the player with the highest sector card goes first, and if still tied roll to see who goes first."
I think what is implemented is: in the case of a tie it looks at all players to see who has the highest deployed sector, when it should only be evaluating the tied players.
The wording is in the rules is unclear, but the interpretation that is should be evaluated amongst the tied players makes more sense to me.
T1MM should have been the 1st player, it picked me instead and I had spent all my gold.
HezikRoshi hits the nail on the head. When there's a tie, it looks at ALL players instead of just the tied players, and then assigns it to whoever has the highest sector card (often the same as the one who spent the most, but that is just correlation)
I should have been the starting player as I had 8 credits remaining but gilbe became the starting player with 0 credits.
example of the error
the wrong player started first because of this..
Happened again. I think the code probably doesn't exclude players who spent more from randomly deciding the tie?
This happens when there is a tie for the most coins.
The rule is, whoever played the highest sector card of the tied players gets to go first.
However, it is giving the start to whoever played the highest sector card, even if they weren't involved in the tie.
who kept the most money goes first.", but this did not happen. Spending the most money and going first seems game-breaking.

I have seen this bug ~10 times. It happens more often when playing with 3 people, but today is the first time I notice it on a 4 player game. I don't know what causes it.
Personally it affects my strategy a lot when it happens because I often forgo some cards to ensure first player status if I need to buy a desirable card. It is specially worse when the desirable first card is very cheap for example the Merbold sector 7 arrow to sector 8 (like in this game). Since the Merbold cost only 4 it can easily be snatched by other players even if they did not deserve to be the first player.
Two players had 7credits and one player had 1credit yet the player w one credit was assigned first player
One player spent all their starting credits and was selected as first player. (No other players spent all their starting credits.)
The two people that spent all 15 each bought a card in the 9 spot, which was highest. They both had a 6 card, then the tie breaker was a card in the 5.
Of course the problem was that it should have only been the 2 people that spent 12 using the tie breaker, not all 4 (or the two people which spent everything.)
Happens fairly often.
two players with 8 left after the start, one with 6 and one with 0.
The player with 6 was chosen as first player.
It is not a bug. It is just a tie breaker. If there is a tie on starting credits, the game will choose someone random out of ALL players instead of just the players who tied.
Can you please make it so it chooses one of the tied players?
